Chapter 8: The Superior Female Lead Pampers Her Husband Without Limit 08
The current life she was living was calm and peaceful—very different from her past. Compared to her life before time-traveling, she had to admit that, in many ways, life was now much better, though she still wasn't used to it. After all, she had lived a luxurious life for many years in the modern world.
But before she became successful, she had gone through hard times too. So even though she wasn't used to this new way of life, she didn't find it unbearable. If there was anything she didn't like, she believed she could change it through her own efforts.
Right now, even though she didn't have to worry about food or clothes, she found life dull without any clear goal. That wasn't like her. She wanted to work harder and chase a better life and future.
As for her husband, she still hadn't met his parents—oh, wait, in this world, she should call them her father-in-law and mother-in-law!
His mother was likely very sick and needed money badly, which was probably why they married their son to her. If she hadn't traveled here, her young husband might have actually ended up as a widow.
If her husband had willingly married her to help pay for his mother's treatment, she wouldn't have any complaints. But if his family had forced him to marry into her family just to get money, then Jewel definitely wouldn't want to be close to such in-laws.
So... it was time to visit his family and find out who truly cared about him. Going back with him could also help reassure those who genuinely loved him.
Jewel closed her eyes, letting her mind wander…
"Mmm~" Xavi moved around a bit in her arms and snuggled closer. "Wife…"
Jewel looked at the sleepy little man in her arms, her eyes full of warmth.
"Xavi, you're awake?" She hugged him a little tighter, breathing in his scent—it made her feel completely at peace.
"Wife…"
Xavi smiled with half-closed eyes. He felt like he'd had a deep, long, warm, and peaceful sleep. It was so comfortable that he didn't want to wake up.
The calm and warm presence next to him made him slowly open his eyes. When he saw Jewel smiling at him, her eyes filled with tenderness, his heart melted.
Waking up to the one you love on such a lovely morning—it made both of them feel incredibly happy.
"Xavi, today is the fifth day since we got married." Jewel wanted to ask about the return visit after marriage.
"Mmm~" Xavi nodded and rubbed his eyes.
"Xavi," Jewel gently held him tighter, "did you go home on the third day after the wedding?"
"No, you were still sick then. I had to take care of you."
Xavi spoke softly, his gentle tone making Jewel feel even more guilty.
She felt sorry for her little husband. The marriage had cost her less than three silver coins, and there were no proper marriage rituals—no matchmakers, no ceremony, no return gift. She hadn't even seen their marriage certificate. Everything had been too simple.
"Do you want to go home? To see your parents?"
In this matriarchal world, married men usually needed permission from either their father-in-law or wife to visit their family. But Jewel didn't care about those rules. If her husband missed home, she would go back with him anytime.
"Go home!" The sleepiness instantly disappeared from Xavi's face.
"Yes, it's tradition to visit your family after getting married. I was sick on the third day, so we missed the proper visit. But now that I'm better, shouldn't you take me to meet your parents?"
In this world, husbands rarely had their wives accompany them on the return visit. After all, women were the head of their own families, and when they went to their in-laws' house, they became the younger generation. They had to behave more humbly, which many women disliked. Most husbands, especially those who weren't loved much, wouldn't get such a special honor.
"You're going to go with me?"
Of course, Xavi wanted to go home. He wanted to know if his mother's health had improved. And his father—his father had been the most unwilling to let him go when he married. He had always felt guilty for letting Xavi marry into someone else's family for the sake of "warding off bad luck."
Actually, Xavi had agreed to the marriage himself. He had hoped it would help his mother recover and ease the burden at home. He didn't blame anyone. Especially now that Jewel had recovered and treated him very well, and her father was kind too. His life was sweet and full of joy.
In his opinion, the so-called bad-luck warding marriage had worked out perfectly. He loved this marriage and wanted to go home to let his father know he was doing great.
"Yes, shouldn't we go visit them?"
Jewel also wanted to see what illness her mother-in-law had. Maybe the supplements in her storage space could help. Since they were family now, of course she wanted to care for them.
"Thank you, wife…"
Xavi was overjoyed that she offered to go home with him. It meant she cared about him and valued him as her husband. Waking up to her smiling face, and now getting the news that she'd go home with him—he really felt like he had married the right person.
"So, when are we going?" he asked happily.
"You're this excited?" Jewel looked at her husband's cheerful face and laughed. "Since you miss home so much, let's have breakfast and leave right after!"
"You're the best!"
Xavi threw his arms around her, snuggling into her arms again, making her laugh even more.
The two of them lay there for a bit, until they heard noise coming from the kitchen. Xavi suddenly realized—he had gotten too excited and forgot to make breakfast! It sounded like her father was in the kitchen alone.
Would her father think badly of him? Would he think Xavi had gotten spoiled after just two days of being doted on and was now sleeping in while the father-in-law cooked for him?
If her father got upset, maybe Jewel would blame him too—thinking he was being lazy or acting spoiled. And then maybe she wouldn't treat him so nicely anymore.
That would be terrible!
The more Xavi thought about it, the more nervous he got. He needed to fulfill his duties as a good husband. He couldn't slack off and risk anyone finding fault in him.
So, he quickly got up and dressed.
"Wife, I'll go help Father make breakfast!"
Without looking back, Xavi ran out of the room like a gust of wind.
Jewel stared blankly at the door. Just a second ago, her sweet little husband was right there in her arms. Now he was gone. She felt a little empty all of a sudden… she kept staring at the door, as if hoping to see him come back.
Making breakfast? Was cooking more fun than staying in bed and cuddling?
No way!
She had to find a way to free her husband from all the housework. He shouldn't have to do so much every day.
