Chapter 287: Lakyus
"Haha, you've got a point there..." Gagaran let out an awkward laugh. Despite her usually brash demeanor, she had enough self-awareness to know her limits.
She was fully cognizant of her appearance—a muscular woman with a rugged frame. She wasn't the type to delude herself into thinking otherwise. The mere thought of herself dressed in a maid's uniform made her cringe internally.
"Alright, enough of that. To celebrate Evileye becoming my maid, today's feast is on me. Eat to your heart's content!" Eriri clapped her hands and smiled at Gagaran, Tia, and Tina.
With that, she summoned another table full of delicacies from her storage space. The sight alone made the trio unconsciously swallow hard.
Sure enough, the allure of good food was irresistible. In no time, they had cast aside their earlier disappointments and focused entirely on enjoying the meal before them.
Meanwhile, the energy seed Eriri had planted within Evileye was already working its magic. The traits marking her as an undead began to fade as her body gradually regained warmth. For the first time in over two centuries, her heart started to beat, and the long-lost sensation of hunger returned.
"Mmm, this is amazing..."
Savoring human food after more than two hundred years, Evileye couldn't help but clutch her face, a blissful expression spreading across it.
Before long, the entrance to the adventurer's inn swung open once again. This time, two golden-haired girls in luxurious attire entered, accompanied by a blond youth clad in white armor and a scruffy blue-haired man trailing behind.
The four of them headed straight for Eriri's table. Upon spotting Arche, the well-endowed golden-haired girl's face lit up with delight.
"It's been a while, Arche! Have you finally decided to join Blue Rose?"
Her greeting mirrored Gagaran's earlier reaction upon meeting Arche.
This striking girl was none other than Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra, leader of Blue Rose, a noble of the Re-Estize Kingdom, and a descendant of one of the Thirteen Heroes.
As both a faith-based magic caster capable of casting fifth-tier resurrection magic and a warrior who had reached the realm of "heroes," she was among the most elite humans in the world.
"Not quite," Arche replied with a light laugh, shaking her head before greeting the two golden-haired girls warmly. "Long time no see, Lakyus, Princess Renner."
"Ah, what a shame." Lakyus smiled wryly, a tinge of genuine regret in her expression. She truly hoped Arche would join Blue Rose someday.
"Lady Arche, it's a pleasure to see you again," said the other golden-haired girl, dressed in a pristine white dress and crowned with a small tiara. This was Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself, the third princess of the Re-Estize Kingdom, widely known as the "Golden Princess."
Despite the frequent wars between the Re-Estize Kingdom and the Baharuth Empire, neither Renner nor the members of Blue Rose harbored any animosity toward Arche, an Imperial citizen.
Upon learning that Arche's family had been stripped of their noble status by the Bloody Emperor, Renner had even tried to recruit her to the kingdom. However, her invitation had been politely declined.
Behind Renner, her ever-loyal "dog" Climb greeted Arche respectfully. Having witnessed her prowess firsthand during her time in the capital, he held her in great esteem.
"Oh my, such a delightful gathering of lovely guests today! Lady Arche, aren't you going to introduce us?" asked the scruffy blue-haired man with a smile. His gaze toward Eriri was filled with unconcealed admiration.
This was Brain Unglaus, a genius swordsman ranked among the top five warriors of the Re-Estize Kingdom and often compared to the kingdom's Warrior-Captain, Gazef Stronoff.
Brain's story largely mirrored that of the original work, albeit without his encounters with the Six Arms. He had suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Shalltear, lost his confidence, and later regained it through Climb's encouragement. Following the conflict with Nazarick, he became one of Renner's personal subordinates.
Before Arche could reply, Evileye abruptly halted her meal and shot Brain a menacing glare.
"Unglaus, watch your gaze. Don't stare where you shouldn't, or I'll dig your eyes out."
Her sharp rebuke startled everyone. Brain, whose gaze had lingered too long on Eriri, immediately tensed. His wariness only increased upon noticing Evileye's crimson eyes glowing faintly with menace.
"You're... a vampire?"
His hand instinctively reached for the hilt of his sword, memories of the terror inflicted by another vampire flashing through his mind.
"Brian, don't!" exclaimed Lakyus, stepping between them to defuse the situation.
She wasn't worried about Evileye but about Brain's safety. Despite his skills being comparable to mithril-ranked adventurers, he was utterly outclassed by Evileye. If a fight broke out, she doubted he'd survive.
Evileye scoffed but refrained from escalating further. Her disdainful glare alone spoke volumes.
Noticing the tension dissipate, Lakyus turned her attention toward Eriri.
"Evileye, is this your friend? I don't recall you mentioning her before."
Given how closely Evileye was seated beside Eriri and her earlier display of protectiveness, Lakyus naturally assumed their connection, never considering that Eriri might be affiliated with Arche.
Evileye set down her utensils, glanced at Eriri, and hesitated briefly before replying. "Lakyus, this is Lady Eriri, my... my master."
Despite fully accepting her new role as Eriri's maid, saying it aloud still made her blush. Yet she didn't attempt to hide it.
"Master?!"
This revelation left not just Lakyus but also Renner, Climb, and Brain utterly flabbergasted.
Lakyus, in particular, struggled to reconcile the idea. She was well aware of Evileye's pride and haughty demeanor within Blue Rose. To see someone like her address a girl as "master" was nothing short of surreal—regardless of how stunningly beautiful the girl was.
"Yes, from today onward, I am Lady Eriri's exclusive maid," Evileye declared with a firm nod. Then, turning to Lakyus, she continued, "By the way, Lakyus, I should let you know—I'll be returning to the capital irregularly in the future. If that old hag Rigrit has any objections, she can come and talk to me herself."
Rigrit, known as the "Necromancer of the Thirteen Heroes," was a former member of Blue Rose and, like Evileye, over two centuries old. Now retired, Rigrit had arranged for Evileye to join Blue Rose after losing a wager with her. Evileye had essentially taken her place in the team.
Despite being a 250-year-old vampire forever trapped in the body of a 12-year-old, Rigrit's human lifespan had left her a wrinkled, elderly figure—a stark contrast between the two.
"Ah, well... fine!" Lakyus relented, noting the determination in Evileye's expression.
Still, her curiosity was piqued. What exactly had transpired before she arrived? She decided to question Gagaran, Tia, or Tina in private later.
Turning her attention to Eriri, Lakyus greeted her with a warm smile. "Hello, I'm Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra, leader of the adamantite-ranked adventurer group, Blue Rose. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Hello. My name is Spencer Sawamura Eriri. Unlike your names, Spencer is my family name, and Eriri is my given name," Eriri replied with an equally dazzling smile.
Lakyus's striking appearance checked all of Eriri's personal preferences—tall, full-figured, with long, lustrous blonde hair and a flawlessly beautiful face.
"I see. Then, may I call you Eriri?"
"Of course."
After a short, cordial exchange, Lakyus made her way to Gagaran and Tia's side. Upon seeing the half-finished dishes still on the table, curiosity flickered across her face.
"What are you eating? It smells amazing. Does this inn actually serve such incredible food? I've never seen it before," Lakyus remarked.
"Haha, Lakyus, you and Princess Renner arrived just in time! These dishes aren't from this inn, and compared to this, the food we've eaten before barely qualifies as cuisine," Gagaran declared proudly.
"Oh? Is it really that extraordinary?"
"Of course! Try it for yourself, and you'll see. I guarantee you won't be able to stop."
Though skeptical at first—she had tasted countless delicacies as a noble—Lakyus was swayed by the certainty in their expressions. Even Evileye was eating, something Lakyus had never seen before. It was enough to stir her appetite.
"Well then, don't mind if I do."
Grabbing a clean pair of chopsticks, Lakyus picked up a dish that looked particularly appetizing and placed it in her mouth.
"Mmm…"
The moment the flavors touched her tongue, Lakyus's eyes widened in astonishment. One hand flew to her mouth as she chewed, her cheeks flushing with delight.
Seconds later, as she swallowed, an emptiness surged through her.
"This is incredible! I can't stop!" Lakyus pulled up a chair, squeezing between Gagaran and Tia, and began devouring the food with abandon.
"Haha! I knew it! No one can resist these dishes," Gagaran laughed before turning to Princess Renner, who stood nearby. "Princess, you should try some too. You won't regret it."
"Very well. I'll accept your recommendation," Renner replied graciously. Taking the clean chopsticks handed to her by Tia, she delicately selected a morsel and placed it in her mouth.
Unsurprisingly, Renner followed Lakyus's lead, surrendering entirely to the extraordinary flavors.
"Where did this food come from? It's simply divine! The chef who made this must be extraordinary. Could you introduce me to them?" Renner asked, her tone full of admiration.
"Mmph... yes! This is the best food I've ever had. You said it didn't come from this inn, so where did you get it? If a place like this exists in the capital, it would be impossible for it to be unknown," Lakyus added, hurriedly swallowing her mouthful to join the conversation.
Before Gagaran could respond, Tina calmly interjected, "Lakyus, the food on this table was all provided by Lady Eriri."
Having witnessed Eriri's power firsthand, Tina and Tia had developed a deep sense of reverence for her. It was natural for them to attach the honorific "Lady" to her name.
"Wait... does that mean Eriri is a master chef?" Lakyus asked in surprise.
"Not at all. I've never cooked in my life," Eriri replied casually. "These dishes were all prepared by my maid."
"Maid…" At the mention of a maid, Lakyus and Renner instinctively glanced at Evileye.
"What are you looking at me for? Lady Eriri wasn't talking about me," Evileye retorted, glaring at them indignantly.
Lakyus burst into laughter. "Haha! Of course not. I've never seen you eat before today, let alone cook. There's no way you could make something like this."
