Chapter 172 - Supply Point
Hiss… it was another person.
In the dim light, a figure carefully edged along the wall, trying to minimize her presence. Her mental energy cautiously spread out to sense the surrounding environment, inch by inch exploring within the limited area. Since she was now the only one left, it was wise to be extra cautious.
Sigh, how long had it been? She had already gotten used to the feeling of partnering with someone. Not long ago, she had thought being alone was just fine… What had gone wrong in the meantime?
This damn place had no regard for the rules of combat. They had only rushed into the entrance, and in the blink of an eye, they were scattered and teleported away. By the time she realized what had happened, she was all alone.
Suddenly losing her excellent partner, Jiang Hui inevitably felt a moment of confusion, but she quickly recovered. After all, in a situation like this, it wasn’t wise to overthink things.
In the silence of this environment, a sudden “beep beep” sound startled her, raising the hairs on her body that were already on edge.
It was only then that Jiang Hui realized the sound was coming from a spot just below her right shoulder. Accompanied by the slight “beep beep,” the numbers on the electronic screen also flickered, desperately trying to assert its presence.
Got it, got it, I know you’re out of power.
But what could she do about it now? She didn’t know where to find a charging station. She had followed the main group in and couldn’t find a charging point, and in the process, she had lost her teammates, completely putting herself in a passive situation.
Jiang Hui, using the faint, unknown light emanating from somewhere in the room, discreetly observed her surroundings, trying to gauge the situation.
It was dim and opaque; both the walls and the floor were gray and dusty. As she got closer, she could faintly smell the fresh, earthy scent, causing her breathing to quicken. The whole environment exuded a chill that felt like it belonged underground. Was she… underground?
The place where Jiang Hui found herself was quite narrow, but it gradually widened as she turned to the other side.
However, from her angle, she couldn’t see much; all she noticed were some pathways leading who knows where and dark, murky holes. Was this turning from guerrilla warfare into tunnel warfare? So many tricks.
For a moment, Jiang Hui was at a loss for what to do. Glancing again at the red 8% on her simulated vest, she felt a headache coming on; this wasn’t the only issue weighing on her mind.
If you asked her how she ended up here, having lost her teammates, to be honest, she was still a bit dazed herself, and it all started about half an hour ago.
After the announcement notifying everyone about the supply points, some changes began to occur in the training ground.
At the time of the announcement, Jiang Hui and Zhou Xiuwen were leisurely sipping on their nutritional drinks. After all, they had been in the arena for nearly nine star hours. From morning until nightfall, they had gone through quite a bit, and it was only now that they finally had a moment to eat and fill their stomachs.
They didn’t realize how hungry they were until they started eating, and once they began, they couldn’t stop. They went through tube after tube of the nutritional supplements. The two of them consumed nearly half of their stock before they felt slightly less fatigued, proving that the slogan on the nutritional supplement packaging claiming it could “rapidly replenish stamina” wasn’t entirely false.
However, when the announcement was broadcasted, the sudden and seemingly omnipresent surround sound startled both of them, nearly causing them to drop the nutritional supplements they were holding.
“Supply… energy!” Zhou Xiuwen said in confusion, just as Jiang Hui’s eyes lit up.
They understood the supply announcement clearly; it referred to the resources they could obtain. For example, like the batch they had initially received at the central area—only by seizing it could they benefit, and the amount they could grab would directly impact their future actions. This was unquestionable, especially since their supplies were running low, and they couldn’t afford to waste anything.
Jiang Hui and Zhou Xiuwen weren’t particularly lucky; the initial resources they obtained weren’t abundant, and they barely made do by piecing things together later. While the two had scored some points through guerrilla tactics, their opportunities for scavenging resources were limited. Often, their efforts yielded little, and there were many instances when they inadvertently let others benefit from their hard work, allowing others to scoop up the leftovers.
So, the two of them lowered their expectations in this regard, ultimately just hoping to get their hands on bullets and firearms. As for other advanced exploration equipment like specialized camping stealth tents, long-range binoculars, or low-altitude wings, they could only dream about them. After all, they couldn’t get them, and if they did find any, they were always in poor condition, which was truly frustrating.
But they could ignore everything else; resources like bullets and spare firearms were essential. Even if they weren’t needed now, they would be in the future. There would never be enough, so the more they could get, the better.
Yet, even if Jiang Hui had a high shooting accuracy and was careful to use every bullet wisely, she only had less than a third of the original amount left. This accounted for Zhou Xiuwen’s almost untouched stock of bullets as well.
Jiang Hui’s bullet consumption rate was incredibly high on its own.
Once they ran out completely and couldn’t get new supplies, the consequences would be dire, so they needed to replenish as much as possible this time.
As for energy replenishment… what did they need that for? Clearly, it was related to their simulated vests, which were now showing very low battery levels. Well, even if it didn’t match exactly, they could only think in that direction. Otherwise, Jiang Hui simply couldn’t understand the school’s motivation for creating something that needed charging.
Thus, whether it was for bullets or energy, both were urgently needed.
So, where was this supply point and how would they get there? Soon, everyone had an answer.
As the announcement concluded, the ground trembled slightly, and it felt as if some giant beast was slowly awakening in the darkness.
The rocks that were providing cover for the two of them made a “thud thud thud” sound as the ground shook. Even the surrounding bushes were affected, rustling with a “swish swish” noise. It felt unsettling everywhere, making them reluctant to stay any longer. Reluctantly, they had no choice but to leave that place.
However, they had no time to search for another hiding spot. The two of them—or rather, everyone in the training ground—were drawn to a strange high platform that had suddenly appeared several hundred meters away.
Although it was called a high platform, it resembled a building—an extremely crude one, square and flat on all sides, with irregularly arranged rectangular openings that looked somewhat like windows. However, upon closer inspection, it didn’t quite resemble windows because they were too large and appeared very hollow. Looking from the outside in, everything was pitch black; nothing could be seen.
Is this the so-called supply point? Are they supposed to go inside to find something?
The two exchanged a glance and headed toward the dimly lit area without hesitation.
