The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 140 - First Day of Training

Jiang Hui had already noticed her abnormalities.

Since the last training exercise… no, it should be from the moment she arrived in the interstellar world, she felt as if there had been some indescribable changes within her.

Of course, it wasn’t the kind of change that involved swapping bodies. She had changed bodies and, in doing so, had also changed senses. After wandering in the interstellar space for a long time, she had long lost her previous sensations. She adapted quite well to this new body and felt no discomfort.

However, she sensed that her inner essence seemed to have undergone some changes.

Her eyesight was better, her hearing improved, and even her taste and smell had heightened. This could be understood as a side effect of evolving into an interstellar person. But what was with that precise intuition that was almost eerie?

At first, Jiang Hui thought it was just her illusion or a coincidence, but after experiencing it multiple times, often in incredible situations, she began to suspect that some unknown transformation had occurred within her.

Sometimes she perceived measurements with more clarity than a ruler, pinpointed locations with greater accuracy than a sighting scope, and a series of chilling data inexplicably floated into her mind. These data didn’t even require much interpretation; they seemed to imprint themselves on her soul and brain, understandable only to her.

But could this really be a capability that a human could possess? Even though Jiang Hui didn’t know much about the current interstellar environment or the extent of genetic mutations among interstellar beings, she was certain that this could not possibly be a skill derived from the human flesh and blood. At least, it could not evolve and emerge naturally.

As for where it came from, there was no need to think too deeply about it; only the spiritual space that suddenly appeared in the depths of her mind could explain it.

However, deep down, Jiang Hui didn’t actually like this ability because it didn’t resemble any characteristic of a living person. It even made her feel that the core of her human flesh might no longer be human.

But why did she feel this way?

How could she not be human? She could laugh, experience emotions, and think, just like all humans—sensitive and fragile. The world in her eyes was colorful, everything was vague yet distinctly clear.

How could someone like her possibly not be human? She often found it difficult to suppress her doubts, repeatedly pondering the question.

Over time, she grew tired of such meaningless thoughts, suppressing them and starting to live seriously. Even though these questions and strange feelings constantly accompanied her, they occasionally surfaced to brush against her heart, making them impossible to avoid.

As time passed, Jiang Hui gradually figured out the patterns of these sudden intuitive feelings. She even had a vague sense that she could actively control and use them; she just hadn’t thought to do so.

Today, when she first picked up the laser gun and aimed it forward, a powerful desire suddenly surged within her.

Then everything happened in an instant. Before Jiang Hui even realized it, her hand had already pulled the trigger, and the bullet shot out with a whoosh.

The surrounding silence enveloped her ears for a moment, and Jiang Hui felt that the world was extraordinarily quiet at this moment. Her mind was blank; there was nothing there, just emptiness.

“Hmm?” Nie Erqi, who was watching from the side, let out a slight sound of curiosity and turned to look at the other side.

Jiang Hui was on the left side, slightly dazed as she stared at the laser gun she had just used, as if she couldn’t quite believe what she had just done.

Nie Erqi then approached the net for the first time, bending slightly to examine one of the nodes. It was marked with some kind of red substance, which had spread from the center of the node to all sides, creating a small stain that was unusually conspicuous against the silver-glimmering special net.

He seemed somewhat satisfied and glanced subtly at one person who was still in a daze, saying, “Good, finally, there’s something to see. Move on, next row, step forward and keep it up.”

With that, Jiang Hui and her row were quickly pushed back by the next row, moving to the back.

Once she snapped back to reality, she heard a classmate beside her exclaim softly, “Jiang, you hit it on your first try! How did you manage to do that with such difficulty?”

Even now, Jiang Hui found it hard to believe that she was the one who made that shot. Facing the excited and somewhat envious gazes of her classmates, she didn’t know how to respond, simply mumbling that she was just lucky.

Fortunately, everyone still understood that they were in training and didn’t dare to chatter freely; otherwise, she would probably have been surrounded by a crowd right now.

Well, she really wasn’t that impressive; she had just hit a node, that’s all. If one day she could hold a real firearm and take down a star beast with a single shot, that would truly be cool.

Thinking this way, Jiang Hui unconsciously fiddled with the laser gun resting on her shoulder, as she began to imagine what the feel of a real firearm might be like. It seemed she hadn’t anticipated that just a month after stubbornly declaring she wouldn’t consider becoming a combat soldier, something essential within her had already begun to change.

However, the person involved hadn’t noticed this change and was instead stepping deeper and deeper into this transformation.

Next came the long and boring wait, as this was a rotational training session, and naturally, the time for their row to take a turn was limited.

Since Jiang Hui hit the target, three or four more people managed to hit the nodes as well. However, it seemed that Instructor Nie Erqi didn’t offer praise to everyone; some received only a casual glance, while others, like Jiang Hui, were occasionally met with a rare commendation for hitting the target.

The shooting practice continued in this mundane atmosphere. For the entire afternoon, everyone was struggling with this positioning net, which was neither small nor large.

Unfortunately, the results were less than satisfactory. Despite the large number of people and the many rounds of shooting, they had spent an entire afternoon with that little net and hadn’t hit it very often. Not only did they fail to fill the net with color, but by the end of the training, they hadn’t even managed to cover one-tenth of its surface.

The number of people who could hit the nodes was still very few.

Jiang Hui had managed to hit the target a couple of times in the beginning, but after several failures, she only started hitting intermittently again after finally finding her rhythm.

Although she was far better off than many classmates who hadn’t hit it at all, her performance seemed somewhat overshadowed by certain true talents, making it appear less remarkable.

That student, Clarens, was probably the only one among them who managed to hit the target consistently. Although he missed during the first two rounds, he seemed to find his rhythm afterward, hitting the target almost every time, with a failure rate of only about ten percent, which was significantly better than Jiang Hui’s performance.

As a result, this already extremely popular student once again ascended to the “god status” in the hearts of his classmates.
