Chapter 134 - Becoming Stronger
The so-called “waste of resources” essentially refers to unequal distribution. Others may think this way, but one shouldn’t adopt the same perspective. Because if you also believe you’re wasting resources, then the extra resources you have lose their significance.
The correct approach should be to confront this unequal distribution head-on, utilize it fully and effectively, and then transform it into your own strength. Any so-called “waste” that occurs during this process can only be seen as reasonable loss.
As for the inequality in resource distribution… this is a very real issue, because the world is inherently unfair.
And unfairness is always relative. It’s unfair for both Carl and Jiang Hui, but Jiang Hui will encounter people who have access to higher-level resources in the future, and she too will face such unfairness. Little Carl doesn’t understand that when he leaves this school, he will inevitably face more unfairness in his life.
Jiang Hui must also understand this point; she will not always enjoy the resources of the privileged and must learn to accept the disparity of being in a lower position.
As for Little Carl’s motives, they weren’t as reckless and impulsive as they seemed. Firstly, the timing of his attack clearly took advantage of the natural condition of the surveillance malfunction. Moreover, from the generated particle imaging data, it was obvious that he had been lurking for a long time, calculating everything in advance. If Jiang Hui hadn’t unexpectedly shown more combat ability than he anticipated, he would have likely succeeded and fled by now.
The other party clearly harbored dissatisfaction with an entire group of privileged individuals within the class, hating and envying their ability to receive special “treatment” and “attention.” Yet, he did not dare to choose to confront Chen Wenbai, who was genuinely at the bottom and received care due to his frailty, because the latter came from the powerful Chen family of Takar Star. He was even less inclined to act against the daughter of Major Merrill. In the end, he chose Jiang Hui, whose background seemed the most ordinary and harmless.
—Even though she did not really fit into the group he despised that was being treated leniently.
So Little Carl probably knew this very well but still made this choice with a double standard.
Stark was unwilling to let such a morally corrupt individual influence Jiang Hui.
He hoped Jiang Hui could understand why the strong remain strong, learning to become strong from the inside out, and not to be easily swayed by external forces or environments.
No matter what path this child would take in the future, Stark hoped she could become a truly strong person at heart.
“As I just told that little Carl, most of your resources come from your parents, your family, and even your inherent rights. Since these have fallen into your hands, make good use of them. Why overthink it?”
“If you truly believe you are wasting resources by casting them into others’ hands, do you think that constitutes a reasonable allocation? Just imagine if the resources fell into the hands of today’s little Carl—he might even turn it into a disaster for you, and you’d only suffer the consequences lightly.”
“And—haven’t you already found the answer?” Stark glanced at Jiang Hui.
Just now, he was still worried that the child would be swayed by someone’s trash talk, but unexpectedly, he met a pair of eyes that were more determined than ever, and he immediately knew that this person already had the answer in her heart and understood very clearly.
She just wanted a little push.
Stark felt a mix of happiness and a sense of melancholy for the journey that seemed to have been replayed countless times among their parents and ancestors.
“You now know how detestable it is to not make good use of resources, right?” Stark gave a light snort, hinting at his point, and said no more.
“Uncle Tang, I want to keep going like this. I want to become stronger.”
“Mm.”
“You…”
Before she could finish, he heard a change in her breathing, and when he looked over, he found she had fallen asleep while sitting up.
It turned out it was already midnight.
Stark adjusted her position, laid her down on the medical room’s stretcher, and pulled the curtain, signaling to the returning Lu Jin to speak outside.
Meanwhile, the girl, who they thought was sound asleep, had already entered a magical mental space, stepping into another world, starting to relive the day’s moments once more.
At this moment, she was experiencing a second unexpected little surprise of the day.
Jiang Hui raised her hand and made a tentative gesture as if to support something, and the book began to sway and hover in mid-air. With a thought, it seemed to be under a spell, flipping through the pages chaotically. In that moment, she felt as if she could hear the background music of Hogwarts playing.
She looked dazedly at her hand, which bore no marks at all. There should have been a trace of blood from today’s fight, confirming that she was indeed in the mental space.
…It seemed her control over her mental power had strengthened in this space.
Jiang Hui straightened up from the sofa, dramatically waving her hand. As her thoughts moved in her mind, a large number of hefty books suddenly appeared from nowhere, circling around her and hovering in the air, creating quite an impressive scene.
Suddenly realizing that she might be overdoing it a bit, she felt a slight sweat forming on her forehead. Then, without meaning to, she accidentally triggered her thoughts, causing a dozen hefty books to hover above her head and flip through their pages, creating a truly shocking sight.
At one moment, she thought about calling back the book titled “Standard Mecha Expansion,” then her attention wandered to a book with an interesting cover that seemed to be called “Particle Materialization.” Then she recalled a difficult-to-memorize tome titled “History of XX Progress”… It was clear that Jiang Hui was beginning to lose control of her runaway thoughts.
Not only did she fail to call those ten or so books back, but many new ones also popped up and followed her around like a whole pile of books moving along with her. After a chaotic round of mixing and matching, the twenty or so books completely went out of control and came crashing down in a heap, hitting Jiang Hui squarely on the head, making her feel a pounding headache.
Jiang Hui’s forty-eight hours of this day had truly been a whirlwind of chaos.
The school acted quickly, issuing a public reprimand for Carl’s misconduct the following day and expelling him. They also published an apology regarding the responsibility issues caused by the malfunctioning surveillance system.
The next day, Jiang Hui received compensation from the school. She couldn’t help but wonder if it was because she had questioned the principal about the surveillance issues the day before; they had transferred not only the promised reward for saving someone during the training exercise but also the compensation, making her doubt her own eyes when she opened her light brain after waking up.
The compensation and reward consisted of a simple structure: personal points, totaling 245 points, instantly making her the student with the highest score in the entire freshman class. However, she didn’t yet know how to use them.
For now, Jiang Hui couldn’t fully appreciate the joy brought by this reward and compensation. She had been temporarily grounded and forced to rest for three days before being allowed to participate in the remaining military training sessions. With thirty days of military training, she had already spent four or five days recovering from injuries, wasting valuable time, which was frustrating, especially since she had just resolved to become stronger.
There were still about eight days left until the end of military training, which was approaching its conclusion.
Fortunately, she was still able to catch up on the shooting training; otherwise, she would have another subject to frantically make up for when the school year began.
