A crimson-yellow dragon of molten rock roared to life, barreling toward Deidara. This wasn't something clay snakes could counter—any attempt to bind it would result in instant vaporization.

Deidara's response? A bedroom-sized clay sphere, simple and round, that ascended over the lava dragon before exploding. The shockwave tore the molten beast apart, scattering magma like fiery rain within the barrier.

Sometimes, brute force was the simplest solution. If not for the barrier's limitations, Deidara would have unleashed one of his true masterpieces, forcing Mei to kneel in defeat.

From underground, the clay centipedes he'd planted earlier erupted, detonating and scattering the acidic mist with powerful shockwaves. Mei's figure was exposed once again.

In the brief moment Deidara had disrupted her mist, Mei was already at the edge of the battlefield closest to the Spider Queen. She spewed a massive volume of molten lava directly at its abdomen, aiming to stop its relentless production of smaller bombs.

A flock of clay pterodactyls swarmed down at Mei, targeting her back as she focused on her large-scale attack. The effort required for such powerful ninjutsu left her temporarily vulnerable.

"It's over! Ha!" Deidara blurted, immediately regretting his impulsive declaration.

Sure enough, the "Mei" struck by the pterodactyls dissolved into a puddle of water. A Water Clone! She had deliberately baited him into revealing his cards.

"Water Style: Water Severing Wave!"

A commanding shout echoed from behind Deidara, and a high-pressure water jet sliced through the air, bisecting his airborne form.

High-pressure water jets shouldn't be underestimated. In real life, waterjets can cut through diamonds, in the hands of a skilled shinobi, they're a terrifying weapon. This technique, unique among Water Style jutsu, surpassed the cutting power of Wind Style and matched the speed of Lightning Style. Mastery of it marked one as an elite jonin.

The sliced "Deidara" exploded into white clay, while the real one emerged from within a clay bird, unharmed.

By now, the two should've paused the battle, as any further escalation would risk breaking the barrier. But Deidara didn't relent, summoning yet another swarm of clay wyverns.

"Persistent little pretty boy, aren't you?" Mei sighed, a trace of melancholy in her voice. "If only the men around me had such determination... I wouldn't be—"

She stopped herself, shaking her head.

Deidara was speechless. 

Thinking about romance during a fight? Just how desperate is this woman to get married?

Pity he wasn't looking to help the Hidden Mist solve its "single woman" problem.

Suddenly, Mei froze. Deidara's clay spiders had arranged themselves into a series of characters on the ground:

"What?" Mei's eyes widened, but her composure quickly returned. Spitting lava to shield the message from onlookers outside the barrier, she feigned an attack on Deidara's clay creations while processing the warning.

Seeing Mei acknowledge the message, a clay clone emerged discreetly from underground, while the real Deidara kept up the pressure to cover its movements.

"Listen closely, Mei," the clone said gravely. "Yagura is compromised. He's under a genjutsu!"
