Chapter 194 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Stunned by the Power of the Secret Weapon
194 Divine Cat Mii-chan Stunned by the Power of the Secret Weapon
We’ve moved to a position where we can observe both armies. The upcoming battle will be a clash between two large military forces, something we can’t interfere in directly. So, we’re hiding 700 meters to the right of the Kingdom’s army, near the highway, watching from afar. The two armies have left their camps and are facing each other, separated by 500 meters. I’m observing their movements through my rifle scope.
“Hey, Nero. The Kingdom’s army clearly has fewer soldiers, right?”
“In terms of numbers, yeah.”
“There doesn’t seem to be much tension, does there?”
It’s been over an hour since the two armies began facing off. Instead of fighting, they’ve been sending messengers back and forth, arguing about who has the legitimate cause. Honestly, it’s so leisurely that I’m beginning to doubt if a real battle will even start. Maybe this is just another part of their formalities.
It seems like the shouting match has finally ended, as the messengers in the center are returning to their respective sides.
The first to move is the rebel army. Soldiers with shields line up in front, followed by archers, with infantry assembling behind them. Slowly but surely, they start advancing. They’re only sending about a third of their forces. Gradual deployment is a bad strategy, especially when they’re already outnumbered. They’re not making use of their numerical advantage at all.
“Are they just testing the waters?”
“They probably want to keep their noble troops in reserve.”
“Even Rotaringia’s forces aren’t moving yet.”
Maybe their lack of coordination is the real issue? Is it just a disorderly rabble relying on numbers?
While I’m pondering this, the archers begin their attack. As the rebel army advances, they start rearranging the positions of their archers and infantry. If they get a bit closer, the infantry from both sides will engage each other.
Looking over at the rebel army’s main force, I see movement among Rotaringia’s troops. Soldiers are lining up, holding something.
“Crossbows? They’re lined up in three rows… Are they really going for a triple-shot tactic?”
I glance over at the Munakata siblings. They’ve started cuddling Lu-kun and Ral-kun, deliberately avoiding my gaze.
“Jin, do you know what a crossbow is? The Rotaringia soldiers are carrying them.”
I hand him the scope to take a look.
“Is that a bow? It’s shaped weird.”
It seems he doesn’t know either. I haven’t seen crossbows since I arrived here.
“Alright, Munakata siblings. Time to spill the beans.”
“I-I mean, in isekai stories, guns and crossbows are kinda standard…”
“I can’t make a gun, but I know how a crossbow works…”
“The triple-shot tactic was something Endo-senpai taught us…”
I’ve heard that crossbows don’t pair well with cavalry, but they seem more effective against dragon riders. This could result in unnecessary casualties.
Hmm, should I deploy the secret weapon here?
“Hey, Ral-kun, can you hit those Rotaringia soldiers from here?”
“Kyuu!”
Ral-kun eagerly jumps into action. Looks like he’s ready. Let’s see what he’s got.
“Hey, boy. What are you planning to do with Ral?”
“Hehe… It’s time to show Ral-kun’s true power. Rebel army, prepare to tremble in fear and bow before us!”
“Nero, are you… a chuuni?”
“Shh! Just let him have his moment, sis.”
I can hear you, Munakata siblings. But say what you will—now, let’s do this, Ral-kun, Mii-chan!
“Kyuu!”
“Mii!”
I step forward about 5 meters with Ral-kun, positioning him in front of me, while I kneel behind him, Mii-chan perched on my shoulder. I point to the Rotaringia soldiers to signal Ral-kun and confirm one last time.
“Kyuu!”
Looks like he’s all set. The armies are now fully engaged in intense infantry combat, and both sides are watching for the right moment to deploy their cavalry. I signal to everyone behind me and then speak to Ral-kun.
“Ral-kun, let’s do it.”
“Mii!”
“Kyuu!”
At his command, a bright light flashes, followed by a powerful gust of wind so intense we can’t keep our eyes open. There’s barely any sound.
And then… the entire battlefield freezes.
When the wind dies down, fear overtakes the rebel army. What was left behind was a scorched wasteland, stretching about 10 meters wide as far as the eye can see. Not even a single blade of grass remained.
The soldiers at the front of Rotaringia’s forces were gone, along with half of the neighboring noble cavalry, who were preparing for the next attack. Many others were writhing in pain, likely from burns.
The fake heroes didn’t die, right…?
“M-Mii…”
“Kyuu…”
Both armies stand in stunned silence, unsure of what just happened. They’re too shocked to move, terrified that they might be the next to suffer the same fate. Some of the soldiers have even collapsed.
Ral-kun looks exhausted, likely from the energy he used. If he could unleash that power multiple times, the world might end. I wonder if the Flame King could pull off something like this?
I pick up Ral-kun and return to the others. No one can move—they’re frozen in place, speechless. Meanwhile, the Kingdom’s cavalry is taking advantage of the situation, circling around the infantry and charging the enemy lines. As expected from the First Knight Order, they won’t let this chance slip away. Lu-kun approaches and gazes at the distant sky.
“Gau.”
“Kyuu…”
Ral-kun seems to be reacting as well, so it’s likely the dragon riders have arrived. The rebel army is checkmated.
It looks like this battle will be over soon. That’s a relief. Though Mii-chan is giving me a cold stare, she was totally into it, so she’s just as guilty. You were all excited earlier, weren’t you?
“M-Mii…”
