Chapter 184 - Divine Cat, Mii-chan, Entertains Guests

184 Divine Cat, Mii-chan, Entertains Guests

While enjoying tea and Mii-chan cookies and chatting with everyone, Letty came downstairs from the second floor and entered the living room.

“Boy, someone from the guild will guide you to the Rotaringia army,” Letty said.

Upon seeing Letty enter, Jin, Glenhart, and Rosalinde looked surprised and cautious.

“Why is there a demon here?” Glenhart asked, concerned.

“Don’t worry, she’s Letty, the bodyguard for the Divine Cat Trading Company,” I explained.

“Wait, so she’s working for Nero?!” Jin exclaimed.

The three of them looked even more surprised. I wonder what exactly startled them — is it the fact that demons are present in this country, or are they seeing her as an enemy?

“Letty, these are…” I started to introduce them.

“I know. They’re the Five Fighters of Thunder, aren’t they?” Letty interrupted.

Of course, she knows them — it’s only natural, given her past with the bandit guild. I nudged her to take a seat, using Terra as my hand prop.

Kai, meanwhile, climbed onto Letty’s lap and made himself comfortable. Despite her stern exterior, Letty is soft when it comes to fluffy creatures. Even though she grumbles about being followed around, she can’t help but soften her expression when playing with them. Being a night owl, she’s often around to keep Kai company, which is why he’s so attached to her.

“Is leaving at dawn tomorrow okay with you?” I asked.

“Not a problem. We’re set to meet up with the guide along the way,” Letty confirmed.

“And you’ll be joining us, right, Letty?” I asked.

“I suppose I have no choice. It’s a hassle, but if you die, I won’t be able to relax. I’ll protect you,” she replied casually.

“Mii…” Mii-chan seemed to express her agreement, while Jin and the others were left speechless.

“Will we be alright?” Jin muttered nervously.

“You’re safe, nyah! Sister Letty is super strong, nyah!” Mii-chan assured them.

“Nya!” added Kai, backing up Mii.

Since when did Letty go from being an awesome big sister to the “Sister Letty” title? I knew that Letty often sparred with Perro and Sera at night, but it seems her position in their hierarchy is clear.

“Impressive, if the kitties praise her that much,” Jin commented.

“Hmm, I’d like to spar with her myself,” Glenhart said.

“Sounds fun~,” Rosalinde chimed in.

Meanwhile, Letty calmly sipped on her tea as if she didn’t hear their words. Sweet tea, of course.

Just then, Lala entered to say the rooms were ready. She guided Jin and his companions upstairs, while I took the opportunity to ask Letty for more details.

Terra, curious about Kai’s fondness for Letty, moved to sit in front of her on the table and let out a cute meow.

“What is it, do you want me to hold you too?” Letty asked, a rare softness in her voice.

“Mew~,” Terra replied.

“Fine, but this is special,” Letty said as she picked up Terra, trying hard to suppress a smile.

Though Letty tried to hide it, everyone in the room already knew she was a bit of a tsundere. She should just be honest with herself.

“Mii~,” Mii-chan added, observing the scene.

With both Kai and Terra in her arms, Letty’s expression had softened completely. It was the perfect moment to ask her about the current situation.

“So, what’s going on?” I asked.

“Ah, yes. The army is advancing toward the royal capital. They’ll likely join forces with the rebel army there.”

“And the size of the army?” I asked.

“2,000 cavalry, 13,000 infantry, 4,000 mercenaries, and 2,000 supply troops. More soldiers are gathering, especially from the discontented nobles, so their numbers will likely increase,” Letty explained.

“You’ve really managed to gather a lot,” I said, impressed.

“That just shows how many nobles are dissatisfied,” Letty replied.

“And what about the hero?” I inquired.

“They’re quiet for now, staying in the rear, guarded by the Rotaringia forces,” Letty said.

“Do you think they understand what they’re getting into?”

“Who knows? How could I possibly know?” Letty shrugged.

Well, that’s fair.

Once Jin and his companions returned, having changed into more casual clothes, we started dinner.

“Ah, this is great!” Jin exclaimed after his first sip.

“This must be distilled liquor from Forte,” Glenhart noted.

“As expected of a merchant, you’ve got some good stuff!” Rosalinde added.

At Jin’s request, I served Forte’s distilled spirits. While my group usually drinks ale or wine, distilled liquor isn’t as popular. We mostly use it for cooking, or Ben the old man drinks it as a nightcap.

Meanwhile, Mii-chan was entertaining the guests with a smile. Rosalinde couldn’t stop petting her, her face soft with affection. Jin and Glenhart enjoyed their drinks while chatting with Lou.

“Don’t forget, we’re leaving early in the morning,” I reminded them.

“Of course! We’re just having a little fun now,” Jin replied.

“No worries here,” Glenhart added.

“One barrel is nothing to us!” Rosalinde laughed.

I forgot they have incredible alcohol tolerance.

Lou and Sera stuck to ale, Letty drank wine, and the others enjoyed fruit juice. Mii-chan, Kai, and Terra were happily munching on their cat food while Kaya fussed over them, wiping their mouths and offering them mineral water. With Terra around today, Kaya was especially enthusiastic about taking care of them.

“This is delicious. Do you always eat like this, Nero?” Jin asked.

“This is on par with high-end restaurants,” Glenhart commented.

“If I lived with Nero, I’d gain so much weight,” Rosalinde joked.

I’m glad they enjoyed the food. After dinner, they can take a nice long bath. Tomorrow’s going to be tough, after all.

“Mii~,” Mii-chan purred contentedly.

Rosalinde was the first to bathe, followed by Jin and Glenhart, who were now relaxing in the living room with some chilled ale.

“This is better than the luxury inns in Beruna,” Jin said.

“We’re being treated like royalty,” Glenhart added.

“I always knew you were well-off, but I didn’t know you were this well-off!” Rosalinde remarked.

Considering these three are among the top five hunters in the country, they must make quite a bit of money. However, because of the nature of their work, they likely don’t settle in one place often, though they do stay at high-end inns. The average hunter wouldn’t be able to afford a place like that. How different is it, I wonder? Though I think even Beruna’s luxury inns are top-notch, aside from the Grand Wilhelm Nord in Hildenburg, of course.

Well, this mansion was originally a royal villa, so it’s no surprise it’s well-appointed. The bath is custom-made, so it’s quite something. But since my standard is the Grand Wilhelm Nord, I’m not exactly sure how this compares.

In any case, I’m satisfied. Right, Mii-chan?

“Mii~,” Mii-chan purred in agreement.
