Chapter 110 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Relieved After the Investigation

110 Divine Cat Mii-chan Relieved After the Investigation

Finally, we’re back in the White Labyrinth.

I should be relieved, but there’s no time to relax. As soon as we return, I ask Commander Bernhardt of the Third Knight Brigade to prepare a room and a large piece of paper.

Mii-chan and the others have gone to visit Sumire. I’d like to join them, but priorities are priorities…

I start transcribing the map using my mapping skill onto a one-meter-square piece of paper. It’s quite a task. I need to create two copies—one for this location and one for the guild master. I’ll draw one for the queen after we return to the royal capital.

After finishing the transcription, I inform Bernhardt to gather the commanding officers. Since the infantry, mercenary troops, and the second knight brigade haven’t arrived yet, there aren’t many people. Still, a few guild representatives and hunter representatives show up.

On our side, Müller, Kevin, and I attend the meeting.

I spread the map on the central table and start explaining. With each explanation, everyone’s expression darkens. The scale far exceeds expectations, and we lack information on the western side. It’s only natural to feel anxious.

“That number can’t be defended by this fort.”

“More importantly, isn’t the problem that there’s a settlement less than half a day away?”

“Also, the lack of a direct path to the enemy’s base is an issue…”

Opinions fly from both the knights and the guild. Strategic decisions are not for me to make; it’s up to the experts.

“What about this red line on the eastern side?”

“That area is currently the territory of insect-type monsters fighting with goblins. I managed to negotiate with what seemed to be their leader and arranged for a truce between humans and insect-type monsters while they’re fighting the goblins.”

“Can that be trusted?”

“High-ranking monsters understand human language. I’ve heard that goblin generals speak human language as well. I don’t think it’s strange.”

“That’s a different matter!”

The knights are so stubborn…

“But, in fact, my allies were saved by a goblin attack. During the investigation, we camped for two days in the insect-type monsters’ territory. We were monitored but not attacked. Maybe they’re desperate enough to consider teaming up with humans?”

Nice follow-up, Müller.

“Insect-type monsters are too busy defending their territory to venture out. This means we don’t need to worry about the eastern side. However, if we defeat even one insect-type monster in their territory, this arrangement will be void.”

“…”

“Are there any military inspectors here?”

“I’m here.”

“Please add a new clause to the regulations for this battle. Anyone who engages with monsters other than goblins within the eastern insect-type monster territory will face severe penalties. This will be enacted immediately. The order comes from the Prime Minister. Please act quickly.”

“But… such an unprecedented situation is not easily…”

“Are you aware that I’m the Prime Minister’s inspection envoy?”

“…”

“Is there any issue from the guild side? I will speak with Guild Master Serion tomorrow.”

“…None.”

“Then, that’s all from me. Is there anything else?”

Everyone looks at each other.

“There’s talk of over a hundred thousand. Did you see it yourself, Inspector?”

“I saw it with my own eyes. Honestly, I could hardly believe it. How could they increase so much in such a short time…”

“There’s a possibility that a Goblin King is emerging…”

“…”

Yes, exactly. I was trying to guide them to that realization. This should make them a bit more cautious. I hope the second knight brigade arrives soon; I’m worried with just the third knight brigade.

After the meeting, I go to Sumire, who is unusually affectionate and rubbing up against me. Maybe she missed me? When I asked, she turned away… I took care of her with extra attention, along with Perro. Sumire is quite the tsundere.

Mii-chan, meanwhile, is lounging on Sumire’s head, looking content. Maybe Mii-chan is relieved to see Sumire too.

The next day, I tell the members of the Azure Dragon Roar and the Dark Fang to return at their own pace because Sumire is overenthusiastic. I don’t have confidence in stopping her. Once we leave the gate, she dashes off at breakneck speed, barely noticing anyone else. It’s quite scary.

We reach Quint in under two hours. We book a nearby inn and, after taking care of Sumire, head to the Hunter’s Guild.

The guild is still quiet, and Fer and Pal, the beautiful cat duo, are being petted by the receptionists. Mii-chan joins in.

“Mii~”

When Mii-chan greets the beautiful cat duo, Fer-mama and Pal-chan start licking Mii-chan. It’s good to see them getting along well.

Eva notices us and introduces us to the guild master.

“It looks like you’ve returned safely as scheduled. How are the others?”

I inform them that Sumire returned ahead of us.

“Is it that urgent?”

It’s an important matter, but Sumire’s case is a bit different… It’s not just about satisfying her desires.

While I avoid eye contact, I spread the map on the guild master’s desk and explain.

“Is that so… Nero-kun, you spoke with the monsters?”

“Yes. Perro facilitated communication, and we managed to establish a mutual understanding. We didn’t reach an alliance, though.”

“That’s enough. We won’t have to face two factions.”

I continue discussing with the guild master.

“What’s the plan from here?”

“We return to the royal capital tomorrow.”

“Pamir has also departed for the royal capital. You’ll likely overtake him somewhere.”

“The infantry and mercenaries haven’t arrived yet, and the second knight brigade is also expected…”

“Yes, we hope they arrive soon.”

After leaving the guild master’s office, I head to Sykes’s place for lunch. It’s been a while since I could focus solely on a meal without any other concerns.

“Everyone, it’s mealtime!”

“Mii~”

“Dinner time!”

“Nyah”

“Gau”
