Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The First Purchase

Chapter 2: The First Purchase

Akira sat in the small, dimly lit room, the salt still in front of him, untouched. The surreal nature of his situation had not yet sunk in completely. Was he really in a different world? How was it possible for him to bring items from his previous life into this one?

His hands hovered over the salt. It was so ordinary, so simple. Why had he ordered it in the first place? Was it because he wanted to test the system? Or was it because, deep down, a part of him was still struggling to believe that something so impossible could be real?

The fact that the salt had arrived so effortlessly only added to his disbelief.

"Okay, let's think this through," Akira muttered to himself. "I have this... system. And it seems like I can buy anything from my old world. Anything at all. So, what's the catch? What does the system want in return?"

He glanced at the points displayed in the corner of his vision. 100 Points. That was his balance. He hadn't even used up a fraction of it with the salt. It made him wonder: Could he buy something bigger? Something more... useful? A tool? Or even a weapon?

His mind raced. But then, as if on cue, a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

"Are you awake?" a voice called from outside.

Akira stood, startled by the sudden interruption. He quickly shoved the box of salt into his bag. His head swirled with curiosity and apprehension. Who was this person? Had someone heard him talking to himself? Or was it just some random local? He didn't know anything about this world yet.

"Yeah, I'm up!" Akira called, trying to sound as casual as possible.

The door creaked open, revealing a young man who looked no older than twenty, dressed in simple leather armor. He had short, brown hair and an eager expression. In one hand, he carried a small wooden crate filled with what appeared to be tools and supplies.

"Ah, there you are," the young man said, giving Akira a smile. "I'm Nolan, one of the guards stationed here. We've been asked to deliver some supplies to you. A few of the elders thought you might need them for your journey."

Akira blinked. Journey? What journey? He hadn't agreed to anything. He had no idea what was going on. He took a step back, his heart pounding.

"Uh, journey? What journey?" Akira asked, trying to keep the anxiety out of his voice.

"Your quest, of course!" Nolan said with enthusiasm. "The elders have seen something special in you. You're going to help us with a little problem we've been having."

Akira was caught off guard. A quest? This was all moving too fast. He had no idea what he had gotten himself into. The only thing he knew for sure was that he had no intention of getting involved in some dangerous quest, especially when he had no clue about the rules of this world.

But then, as if he had just had a revelation, Akira glanced at the crate Nolan had brought. The supplies were basic—things like water, bread, and a few tools—but something caught his eye: a small pouch of what appeared to be medicinal herbs. It wasn't much, but it was useful.

Akira's mind clicked into action. Could this be my chance? He had nothing to lose. If this was truly a new life in a new world, maybe he could use this situation to his advantage. After all, the world didn't seem like a place where people would casually turn down help.

With a deep breath, Akira forced a smile. "I think I can help. But first... there's something I need. Something to get me started."

Nolan raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Akira stepped back to the corner of the room, where he had hidden the salt. He pulled out the small box, holding it up for Nolan to see.

"This," Akira said, with a confident grin, "is salt. A valuable commodity where I come from. You'd be surprised how useful it can be."

Nolan gave him a puzzled look. "Salt? You're going to need more than that if you're planning to help us fight monsters."

Akira chuckled. "Trust me, it's more than it seems. And if you give me a moment, I'll show you."

Without waiting for a response, Akira closed his eyes and focused on the system interface. He imagined what he wanted, a specific item he could use in the coming situation. After a brief moment of concentration, the familiar ding echoed through the room.

A small box of bandages appeared in front of him.

Nolan's eyes widened in disbelief. "What... is that? How did you—"

"Like I said, it's salt and more," Akira replied with a smirk. He handed the box to Nolan. "These bandages can save your life. You'll see."

Nolan took the box, examining it with a mixture of awe and confusion. "I... I've never seen anything like it."

"Just think of it as a new kind of magic," Akira said, though he wasn't entirely sure if that was the right explanation. He was still coming to terms with how his abilities worked. "It's from my world. And right now, it's the best I can offer."

The bandages weren't much, but they were practical, and practicality was something Akira was beginning to see as a powerful tool in this new world. A simple item like bandages could make all the difference in a dangerous world, especially if monsters were involved.

Nolan looked back at Akira, his eyes shining with newfound respect. "I don't know how you did that, but... thank you. We're going to need all the help we can get."

Akira nodded. "I'm in. But, uh, if we're going to be working together, you should probably let me know what we're up against. Monsters, bandits, what?"

Nolan hesitated before speaking. "Monsters... But there's a twist. These monsters, they've been appearing more and more near our village. Some of them aren't just beasts. They're intelligent, with plans. And... they're starting to get organized."

Akira's heart skipped a beat. Organized monsters? That didn't sound good. But it also gave him an idea. If I can keep bringing supplies from my world, maybe... just maybe... I can shift the balance of power in our favor.

"I'll help," Akira said, his resolve hardening. "But I need a little more... from my world."

And with that, the journey began.
