Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Patrol Duo
Chapter 10: The Patrol Duo
With the five skill scrolls, Kyosuke's "Kunai Throwing Technique" had jumped to Level 4. In terms of kunai throwing alone, he was now better than most Chunin. Furthermore, his "Chakra Extraction Technique" and "Trap Making Technique" had both reached Level 3, significantly boosting his overall strength.
Most importantly, his system rating had finally changed from "Ninja Apprentice" to "Genin."
Kyosuke felt a surge of pride at this, especially since his personal character level was still stuck at 2. He imagined that if he could find a way to raise his level, his power would increase even further.
I have to figure something out. I can't stay stuck like this forever, Kyosuke thought, frowning as he stood at the entrance of the Military Police headquarters.
"Wow, everyone seems so busy today," Nagisa remarked, tilting her head as she watched the clan members bustling in and out.
When she didn't get a response from her companion, she turned curiously, only to find Kyosuke staring at her with a strange, calculating smile.
Nagisa instinctively took a step back. "What are you planning?" she asked warily.
"Heh heh, something that will benefit you, of course," Kyosuke replied.
"Grandpa, please say yes! Please, please, please?" In the Second Elder's residence, Nagisa was shaking her grandfather's arm, pleading with him.
Sigh. The Second Elder let out a long breath before looking at his granddaughter with a weary smile. "The two of you… one is a renowned genius, the other is the Uchiha's little princess. Why on earth would you want to go on patrol duty on the streets?"
Unfortunately for him, his words had no effect on the determined Nagisa.
Seeing that his granddaughter was about to unleash her ultimate forbidden technique, the "Waterworks no Jutsu," the Second Elder had no choice but to relent and agree to her request.
"Yay! Grandpa is the best!" Nagisa cheered, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. She then turned and bolted out of the residence to share the good news with Kyosuke.
In her excitement, she had completely forgotten Kyosuke's instruction to "not come looking for me right away after you succeed." She had been so focused on this chance to "go out and play" because, if it weren't for Kyosuke's relentless training, she probably would have given up long ago.
Watching his granddaughter skip away, the Second Elder could only shake his head with a wry smile. It wasn't a bad thing, in his opinion. Letting the two children get some experience outside the compound was a good idea. It wouldn't do for them to be cooped up in the clan grounds all the time, especially at their age.
At that moment, the Second Elder had probably forgotten all about the other young Uchiha he had commanded to never leave the clan compound…
The next morning, Nagisa stormed into Kyosuke's home and forcefully dragged him out of bed.
Resigned, Kyosuke got up at the crack of dawn and accompanied the little princess to report to the Military Police headquarters.
"Sooo, that's the situation," Nagisa explained to Fugaku, telling him they had been approved to carry out missions. Of course, she embellished the story with details of her own, such as them being able to freely choose their assignments.
Unfortunately for her, Fugaku had already received his orders from the Second Elder and knew exactly what to do.
Selectively ignoring the little princess's words, Fugaku called over a clansman, explaining that he would be their team leader. But Nagisa stubbornly refused. Left with no other choice, Fugaku had to wave the clansman away.
Kyosuke watched as Nagisa turned and flashed him a victorious V-sign with a brilliant smile. He gave her a discreet thumbs-up in return.
Because, for the first time in a long while, the sound of a system notification was quietly echoing in his mind.
Noon. On the busiest main street in Konoha, two small children in Military Police uniforms were walking with an air of importance. However, their frequent, curious glances from side to side revealed that they were not nearly as calm as they appeared.
"Hey, Kyosuke, look at this!" "Hey, Kyosuke, look over there!"
Nagisa's composure lasted for only a few short moments before her true nature was revealed. Her excited shouts trailed behind them all along the street.
Normally, the shopkeepers lining the street would be nervous, if not terrified, when the Military Police passed by. But today, they all watched the two children with amused smiles.
From time to time, people would even offer them delicious treats. Naturally, the adorable Nagisa was the main beneficiary. Whenever someone offered her something, she would flash a bright smile and politely accept it.
When no one was looking, if the food was good, she would take a few more bites. If it wasn't… she would immediately throw it away and declare to Kyosuke, "How can they make food that tastes this bad? I'll have to find a chance to shut them down."
Kyosuke wondered what those kind-hearted shopkeepers would think if they saw that.
After a while, Kyosuke decided to join in on her fun. After all, he owed the success of this outing to Nagisa's efforts.
Besides, no matter what he did now, he was earning experience points.
[Mission Triggered: Patrol (Repeatable)]
[Description: Patrol the streets for suspicious incidents and deal with them.]
[Reward: 15 Experience Points.]
What counted as a suspicious incident?
Whatever you thought was suspicious, was suspicious. And what you didn't, wasn't.
Kyosuke figured that if they actually found a real incident, it might trigger another mission. But for today, at least, he had no intention of patrolling seriously. He was treating it as a day off.
But sometimes, when you're not looking for trouble, trouble comes looking for you.
"Oof!" While walking, Nagisa suddenly bumped into someone and fell down. "Hey! Don't you watch where you're going?" she yelled out in pain and anger.
Kyosuke had seen the whole thing. It wasn't Nagisa's fault at all. The other person had intentionally bumped into her.
He looked at the person, his eyes narrowing instinctively when he saw the person's pupils, which were completely white.
This guy is looking for trouble.
He walked over, helped the fuming Nagisa to her feet, and soothed her with a few words before turning to face the boy, who had a sneer on his face.
"Is everyone in the Hyuga clan as rude as you?" Kyosuke took a step forward, staring directly into the boy's eyes.
"What did you say?" The boy, a member of the Hyuga clan, had been looking for an excuse to start something. Hearing Kyosuke's words, he was secretly delighted and immediately began to shout loudly, his goal clearly being to provoke Kyosuke and Nagisa into a conflict.
Kyosuke understood the boy's intentions perfectly, but he had no intention of backing down. Instead, he took another step forward, activating his Sharingan. He stared at the Hyuga with those otherworldly eyes and spoke, each word sharp and deliberate.
"I said, if you don't know any manners…"
"I! CAN! TEACH! YOU!"
