Chapter 493. The Outcome and Departure

【Previous Summary】

Lily: “Wow wow wow! (Lick lick lick lick lick!!!)”

Helena: “This girl has a thing for little kids, huh? laughs

Villager: “Uh… (completely shocked)”

Lily: “Huh…? (looking hurt)”

After that, Liliana and the others were politely kicked out of the village.

The next morning.

In the end, we had been allowed to stay the night for safety, but now we were trying to depart, insisting on not overstaying our welcome because we were in a hurry.

“Are you really sure? If they’re still nearby…”

The gatekeeper, an older man who came to see us off, squinted as if trying to peer through the morning mist surrounding us.

It was still early dawn, a bit chilly in the thin clothing. The humid air and mist cloaked the area, with even the nearby forest looking like a mere blur.

“I can’t tell where that perverted elf might be lurking…!!”

Wait, did I just call an elf a pervert? It feels like I’m talking about a monster hiding in the fog…

Well, I can’t exactly defend her either.

—Thanks to the clever maneuvers of the watchful female elf, I managed to avoid drawing unnecessary attention during yesterday’s incident.

However, in exchange, Liliana’s reputation took a dive. She was branded as “a pervert who loses herself over small, cute girls and licks them like a dog”…!

Sadly, it’s only natural…

The villagers hurriedly took their children home, saying things like, “Don’t look!” and “Come on, let’s go!” where the Old Priest Gedok represented the village, gently but firmly turning us away with, “It’s a bit… troublesome for such individuals to come into our village…”

“We apologize for the disturbance.”

“We’re very sorry for the trouble. Come on, Lily, let’s go!”

“Arf…!”

I could only watch as the dejected Liliana looked back at us with a sad face, being dragged away by her two watchful companions…

I wonder what everyone would think if they knew that was the so-called “Saint,” the hope of the alliance forces, the heroic High Elf who had continued to support the front lines…

Well, they’d probably not believe it.

Anyway, we were hosted by the Old Priest at the Holy Church, heart racing with concern about when our identities might be exposed. We passed the night exchanging casual stories (with the silver-tongued Antendeixis playing a big role), somehow making it through until now.

“You could have stayed a bit longer in our village.”

“Thank you, but we can only accept your kindness…”

Reila answered the reluctant gatekeeper with a forced smile.

Once Reila and Antendeixis touch the Holy Silver Spell, their true identities would be out in an instant. As skilled magicians, they had to feel uneasy beside the Old Priest, who casually cast spells mixed with Holy Silver last night…

“Besides, they are Forest Elves. If they have their minds set… they can wait for years, even decades.”

So spending a few days in the village would be pointless.

“Well… that’s true, but…”

“Don’t worry! That pervert aside, the other two seemed pretty reasonable! You’re worrying too much, old man! But I do appreciate the concern♪”

Antendeixis said with a somewhat cheeky tone. The grin on his face definitely wasn’t an act; he was enjoying the ridiculous situation where Liliana had to be called a pervert from the bottom of his heart…

“On the other hand, if they were determined, there’d be no escaping…”

“Y-yeah…”

“…Become a proper man and protect those sisters, kid. You can’t see well because of the fog, but if you walk towards the sun, you should reach the road. Take care and good luck meeting your relatives!”

With a teary-eyed sniffle, the old man spoke.

Since he had brought ingredients to the Holy Church last night and shared dinner with us, it seemed he had become quite emotionally invested in our stories and struggles (fabricated as they were).

“Take care!”

“Thank you! Goodbye!”

“Bye-bye, old man!”

“See you!”

The sight of the waving old man soon vanished into the morning mist.

“…He wasn’t a bad person.”

After walking for a short while, I murmured, and Reila nodded solemnly in agreement, letting out a relieved sigh.

This morning mist seemed easy to get lost in, but it was convenient for us.

It would hide us from the eyes of the weak Human Race—

“Hehe…”

Antendeixis broke into a smile, and just like that, sharp horns sprouted from his forehead.

The intimidating aura that didn’t match his childlike appearance faded into the mist. He was spreading his magic power to diminish the pressure, employing a technique to conceal his presence.

“Hmm, no suspicious shadows behind us.”

Having checked with his magic, Antendeixis glanced towards the village.

“—It seems like we have guests.”

He then turned his gaze ahead.

From beyond the morning mist—something was coming.

Swirling, dispersing the fog.

It was like a whirlwind taking solid form, vaguely reminiscent of a person.

“Come this way…”

A whistling, stuttering voice like a cold wind. It was a wind spirit.

There was no way the Forest Elves, loved by the wind and water, would overlook our presence in such morning mist—

The wind spirit gestured as if beckoning us forward, leading the way—at least that’s how it felt. To my current weak magical perception as a Human, I couldn’t see it clearly.

However, as the mist swirled and created a strange tunnel, tracking it was easy.

While communication via wind spirits is difficult unless used among Forest Elves, it had often saved lives on the battlefield. The catch, sadly, was that it was one of the most advanced techniques in spirit art that only certain high-ranking Forest Elves could use.

…Though there are those from the Izanis Tribe in the Demon Lord Kingdom who can do something similar and even throw in flashy magic.

“Well then, it seems the moment has come.”

Antendeixis flashed me a grin.

That’s right… After a night, I found myself getting anxious too. Following the wind spirit, I felt my heart racing.

—How ironic. In a sense, the gatekeeper’s worries were correct.

Parting the morning mist, we moved into a clearing by the forest.

Three well-tanned Forest Elves were indeed waiting for me.

“Alexander…!”

Ah. It was definitely not a dream.

Overcome with emotion, Liliana looked at me with tears brimming in her eyes, smiling like flowers blooming.

I too felt my eyes welling up as I smiled back.

“—It’s been a while, Liliana.”
