Chapter 1224: YUNYUE VS CELESTIALS (VIII)
LUO JIN saw the exact moment Uriel must have seen the notification about that female angel's elimination—the one whose name he couldn't remember. How could he tell? This guy always had that constant sly look on his face. So seeing those fox-like eyes widen told Luo Jin everything. That girlfriend of his must have been eliminated. Luo Yan did say they were in some kind of relationship, so of course, the woman getting taken out would make him react.
How did things end up like this? To understand, we need to go back a few minutes.
=====
Luo Jin spat out a string of curses as he watched Uriel slip away through a pathway that had accidentally opened from his last attack. He immediately gave chase, but the damn angel was flying like he had rockets strapped to his back.
The glaring differences between their avatars made it impossible for Luo Jin to keep up. All he could do was take shots at the fleeing figure - but Uriel dodged every bullet like he had some kind of sixth sense. Even when Luo Jin used a skill, that damn angel always twisted away at the last possible moment.
When Uriel disappeared from view completely, Luo Jin pushed himself to move faster. Then he heard a deafening explosion up ahead. At the same moment, a system notification flashed across his vision.
[Morganite has been eliminated!]
He froze mid-step.
What?
The timing was too perfect—Uriel vanishing just as Su Yuqi got eliminated? No way that was a coincidence. Those two things had to be connected.
Su Yuqi had teleported earlier with that female angel. If Uriel was involved in Su Yuqi's elimination, then the direction he'd fled must lead to where Su Yuqi and that woman were fighting. Luo Yan did say Uriel was probably dating that female angel. So it made sense he'd rush to her location.
The realization made Luo Jin even more pissed. If this was true, then Su Yuqi's elimination was due to his own carelessness. Because he'd basically let Uriel slip right through his fingers.
He was just about to rush ahead when a voice suddenly stopped him.
"Ah Jin, wait!"
Luo Jin turned his head just as his brother emerged from a patch of shadow. "Yan?"
"I get you're probably pissed about Sister Yuqi getting eliminated," Luo Yan said, "but cool your head for a second and hear me out."
=====
And so, Luo Jin did as told. Luo Yan explained the plan quickly, disappearing back into the shadows before he could even speak. There wasn't even time to ask why his brother was here.
But the plan was good. So Luo Jin didn't ask questions. He equipped his [Sniper Specs], aimed, and fired toward where Uriel now stood visible - talking to that female angel.
The plan was simple: fire his guns until Uriel rushed toward him and left the female angel alone. Then Luo Yan would surprise attack her.
Uriel took little time to abandon his position and charge at Luo Jin. Now that he was here, that female angel was most likely already eliminated.
It was a basic plan, but it worked. Luo Jin figured it succeeded because the two from team Celestials thought he was the only threat after eliminating Su Yuqi. They never realized an 'assassin' hid in the shadows the whole time.
Luo Jin raised his gun, about to use [Hailstorm] to finish the fight. But before he could, he sensed something dangerous coming at him. He instinctively shifted position mid-motion. Still, something struck his shoulder—the same shoulder of the arm holding his gun. The hit not only interrupted his skill activation, but his HP started dropping fast.
He glanced down. There was a dagger sticking out of his wounded shoulder. The [Poisoned] status icon immediately popped up on his screen - meaning either the blade itself was covered in poison, or this was one of Uriel's skills.
Luckily, the [Blessing of Isis] around his neck activated automatically. The necklace's power canceled out any status ailments. His HP had been dropping fast, but it stopped right at the halfway point.
Luo Jin raised his head just as Uriel came charging at him, wings beating furiously, face set in grim determination. The angel clearly meant to end this now.
Good. Luo Jin wanted the same thing.
He let his legs buckle, dropping to one knee in a show of weakness. As he fell, he acted as if his finger accidentally pulled the trigger. A single bullet firing wide, missing Uriel completely as it whizzed past his ear.
Uriel didn't even flinch. He closed the final distance, and raised his dagger high, probably aiming for the killing strike. The blade gleamed as it descended toward Luo Jin's chest—
Then the other's hand holding the dagger froze.
A neat hole appeared between Uriel's brows. For a split second, confusion flickered across his face.
That 'accidental' shot from earlier was actually his skill, [Curve Shot]. The bullet he shot had looped around in a wide arc, which came back to strike from behind at the perfect moment.
Uriel stared at him. The initial shock on his face twisted into pure disbelief. His mouth opened like he wanted to speak—but before any words came out, his body had already turned into light particles.
Luo Jin dropped into a sitting position and pulled a health potion from his inventory. His avatar's HP bar began refilling as the potion took effect. Finally. That damn angel was gone.
"Ah Jin, are you done here too?"
Luo Jin nearly jumped out of his skin as Luo Yan leaped out of a nearby shadow. "Damn it Yan, warn a guy before you pop up like that!"
Luo Yan chuckled. "Sorry, sorry."
Luo Jin only gave his brother a look before asking him the thing that's been bothering him. "So, care to tell me why you suddenly appeared here earlier?"
"Ah, that." Luo Yan rubbed the back of his neck. "Remember how we all have a copy of the map of this place and we can track all our teammates on it?" It was one of many items in Shen Ji Yun's inventory that proved to be useful in this match. "Well, after defeating Gabriel, I planned to observe the other members of Team Celestials and guess who's the target among them. I chose your location first, and just as I got here, Sister Yuqi was eliminated. And you already know what happened next."
