Chapter 14: chapter fourteen
The ship is now on move, the dinner began 7:00pm. I still haven't found who I came here for. Things were going nicely until it was time for entertainment. Apparently, the McKinley aren't the only one after me. A girl I barely noticed volunteered to play the violin – to obviously show off. It doesn't concern me at all.
After she was done, wasn't she supposed to just curtsy, bow or just say thank you and get out? But no, she just had to come for me.
"I'd like to invite Nevaeh on stage to play the piano." Her voice was so annoying. It was like a chalk on the chalkboard.
All eyes turned to me. They all started clapping. I was just confused. But it'll be embarrassing to not go now. They'll make it like I volunteered but got cold feet and backed out.
So I did the only thing I felt was right, I walked towards the stage and sat on the stood by the piano.
"Nevaeh, you don't have to do anything. We all know you don't know how to play any musical instrument. Don't be too embarrassed to say no." Serena wouldn't just give up.
She gave me a really brilliant idea.
I took the mic from the violin girl who's name I still don't know. "Yes… compare to you, a musical student who am I to compare? Miss Serena, I would like you to enlighten me with your performance."
I could hear her mother telling her not to come up the stage but she wouldn't be Serena if she miss an opportunity to show off.
She up the stage, trying to form majestic but her lacks the aura. She wore a body con purple gown. It clings to her everywhere. She doesn't the dresses she supposed to wear. The gown is only showing all the things she lacks.
"What instrument are you best at?" She was about to walk towards the violin before I asked her.
"The violin." She proudly replied.
"You… miss?"
"Amelia. I'm Amelia." The violin lady replied.
"Great. Miss Amelia, I would love for you to lend miss Serena here the violin."
She collected it and began playing a piece. To be honest, it was just so so. After she was done, she was applauded. Even I clapped for her. I was about to quietly leave the stage before she brought be back to the spotlight.
"Nevaeh, I hope you've been enlightened. So which do you want to play?"
"I thought that was enough entertainment for the night."
"She's probably too embarrassed to even try."
"She's just a beauty without brain."
"Acting all high and mighty but can't even play any musical instrument."
"What was she doing when other noble ladies were learning an instrument or the other?"
Can these people just let me rest?!
"Great. Now it's a guest's job to entertain other guests." I faced the two ladies on stage. "Which instrument would you like me to play?"
"The piano."
"Violin."
The both replied at the same time. "Great. I'll fulfill both your wishes."
I walked towards the piano to play the exact same pieces they had both played on the violin one after the other. Then, to top it all, I play la campanella by Franz Liszt. Without looking at any manuscripts. I had to show off too.
"Omg! She's a piano genius."
"Isn't that la campanella?"
"That's Campanella!"
"It's that Franz Liszt's song."
"Isn't that one of the hardest piano pieces ever?"
"And she didn't even study music!"
After I was done with it, I walked majestically toward the violin and picked it up.
"Nice violin this is."
Then just like with the piano, I started off with the two pieces they had both played earlier before I started another piece just to show off again. I played Caprice No. 24 by Niccolò Paganini.
After I was done, I gave a bow and left the stage. Contrary to what I really wanted to do. I wanted to rub it to their faces. Let them know I'm not to be messed with but I didn't do that. Why you may ask.
I felt a strong gaze on me. It was like someone was watching me. Don't get me wrong, I know almost every one was watching me but this gaze is peculiar.
There's something really different about it.
Besides people did the rubbing on my behalf.
"She's so good."
"She played it all without manuscripts."
"She's a musical prodigy."
"I never would have expected such."
"She's even better than the someone who said they studied music."
"They were probably targeting her because she's prettier."
"They're just jealous."
"That one acting like she knows her and the poor girl barely stayed a day at their house."
"How can they be so unreasonable?"
"Insisting she plays the instrument like she's a the host. Very insulting."
"I'm so disappointed in Amelia. Her father taught I to be better I believe."
They went on and on… really to my satisfaction. On my way to the lounge, many mothers came to meet me to tell me about their sons and how they would really love to meet me. I politely declined, telling them that I'm really busy at the moment and walked towards the lounge. I could still feel the gaze on me.
The two ladies did a really funny walk of shame off the stage.
I'd barely sat down for a minute before they both walked towards me. I poured a bottle of champagne for myself because I don't want them giving me any drugged drink to apologize or something.
"Nevaeh, Amelia and I came here to apologize to you. Just in case you take an offense in our behavior. We would like to offer you a dri_" what's with this girl and her ridiculously high voice. It's so obvious she trying to get attention.
"I already have a drink, thank you. It's no problem you both can go. I understand you were just being childish." I replied in monotone. It's so funny how their faces flushed. They're obviously very embarrassed.
That even made it more obvious that they had a plan. On a normal day, they would have stomped and gone.
"But we got you the_" Amelia was yet to complete her sentence before she got interrupted by Serena.
"Then a hug maybe? Just to show we're cool."
"Sure"
As much as I didn't want to, I just had to. If I don't I would be the childish one who can't let go. Besides, I still had to give the host some face. So, I can't just dismiss Amelia.
I expected them to take turns hugging me or something. It was some sort of group hug. They both came at me together, it lasted for barely a 5 seconds. I knew their plan and I'd countered it.
So I thought.
