The Reborn Detective

Chapter 4: FRIEND VISIT

A few days after the emotional dinner, Elara found herself sitting in her room, her thoughts swirling. Just as she began to get lost in her own contemplation, there was a knock on the door. When Elara opened it, she couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness at the sight of her best friend, Amelia. It had been three long years since she had last seen her—before her untimely death. The joy of seeing her again filled Elara's heart.

"Amelia!" Elara exclaimed, rushing forward to pull her into a warm hug. "I can't believe it's really you!"

Amelia laughed and embraced her tightly. "I know, it feels surreal, doesn't it? It's been way too long, you did not even text or call me ...i was worried and decide to come check up on you after i came back from my trip"

Pulling back, Elara looked her friend over with curiosity. Amelia looked the same—full of life and energy—but there was something different in her eyes. "You're looking great!" Elara said with a smile.

"Thanks!" Amelia grinned back before her expression turned a little more serious. "Actually, I came to talk to you about something important. I've decided to apply for college and study physics." She shrugged nonchalantly, but her eyes sparkled with the excitement of her new journey. "What about you, Elara? Any plans for the future?"

Elara's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected the question, but the answer was clear in her mind,in her previous life amelia had choose to study medicine but had got into trouble before elara death maybe some butterflyeffect that caused Amelia to change her mind. "I've decided to apply to the military academy," she said, her voice filled with quiet determination. "I'm going to become a soldier."

Amelia's eyebrows shot up in concern, and she moved closer to Elara. "A soldier?" Her voice was low, careful. "Elara, I... I don't know. That's a dangerous path. You know that, right? —there are real risks, real dangers."

Elara turned toward her, her gaze steady but soft. "I know it's not easy, Amelia. But it's what I want. I've made my decision, and I'm ready for whatever comes. It's my choice."

Amelia's concern lingered, but she sighed, clearly realizing that there was no changing Elara's mind. She reached out and squeezed Elara's hand. "I just want you to be careful, okay? Please, don't throw your life away."

Elara smiled warmly at her friend, her voice full of conviction. "I won't let anything happen to me. I promise."

"Why did you choose physics instead you always said medicine "

Amelia smiled and said during our family trip I saw a physics laboratory and the people there I was entranced and I decide to do physics instead"

Elara smiled happily"i trust you will do good my bookworm"

Amelia also grinned happily

Trying to lighten the mood further, Elara grinned mischievously. "But hey, let's do something fun to mark the start of this new chapter. I'm going to get my hair cut short. You should come with me to the salon!"

Amelia's eyes widened. "Wait, what? Short hair?" she repeated, looking at Elara as though she had just suggested something outlandish. "Are you sure about this?"

Elara nodded enthusiastically. "I'm sure. It's time for a new look to match my new life."

Without waiting for Amelia's response, Elara grabbed her car keys and headed for the door. "Let's go."

Amelia hesitated for a moment before following her. "Since when can you drive?" she asked, clearly surprised. "I don't remember you ever getting behind the wheel."

Elara smiled, but her mind raced. She couldn't tell Amelia about the memories from her past life. "Oh, my father's been teaching me," she said quickly, not missing a beat. "Just in case I need to get around on my own."

Amelia didn't look entirely convinced, but she climbed into the passenger seat anyway. As Elara started the car and drove, the wind blowing through their hair, Amelia couldn't help but wonder where Elara had learned to drive so smoothly. But she kept her questions to herself, enjoying the ride.

As they reached the salon, Elara parked the car with ease. They entered together, and Elara sat in the chair, ready for the big change. The stylist quickly began cutting Elara's long hair into a sharp, stylish bob that framed her face perfectly.

Amelia's jaw dropped as she watched the transformation. When the stylist was done, Elara stood up and ran her fingers through her hair. Amelia's eyes sparkled with admiration. "My beautiful milady," she said, her voice filled with playful awe. "This cut didn't diminish your beauty one bit—it only made it more striking. I'm so jealous!"

Elara laughed, enjoying the compliment. "Thanks, Amelia," she said, touching her newly styled hair. "It feels like the beginning of something new."

Amelia smiled softly, her pride for her friend evident in her eyes. "You're truly something else, Elara. I don't know how you do it, but I know you're going to be amazing at whatever you choose."

Elara gave her a playful wink. "We'll see about that."

As they left the salon, Amelia couldn't help but fill the silence with chatter about their old school group. "Everyone's been talking about you, you know. They're so curious about where you'll go to college. Some people thought you'd go into business, or law, or even arts, but a military university? No one could have guessed that," she said, shaking her head. "It's such a surprise."

Elara felt a little embarrassed but chuckled softly. "I'm full of surprises."

Amelia continued, her tone teasing yet affectionate. "Well, there's always one thing they all agreed on—no one's going to forget that you were the beauty of our school. And speaking of that, you remember Lucy, right? She was always jealous of you—always trying to outdo you. She still talks about you, though." Amelia paused, smirking. "She will probably fume about your new look if she sees it, by the way."

Elara laughed softly at the thought of Lucy. "Let her stew in it. I'm not worried about her anymore."

As they got back in the car, Amelia pulled out her phone and snapped a quick picture of Elara in her new look. She immediately sent it to their old school group with a caption: Behold, our beauty!

She added with a smirk, "Lucy's going to be so jealous of this transformation."

Elara couldn't help but smile as she watched Amelia sending the picture. "You know her well," she said, chuckling.

"Who doesn't know Lucy?" Amelia replied with a wink. "But honestly, no one's going to outshine you, Elara. You were always the star of our group."

Elara just smiled, feeling a little nostalgic but at peace with her new path. This was a new chapter, one she was ready to face head-on.
