The New Elemental God

Chapter 23: Chapter 2.7 - Gateaway

Seeing he was being left behind, the Water God picked up the pace to not let the boy out of his sight. Noticing the approximation, Adam dived trying to evade Calder.

They were slicing tall clouds in half, painting the sky with angry scribbles.

Carefully, Calder was forced to get closer enough to talk to the young God.

"Adam, this is dangerous. Slow down!"

His voice barely made it past the wind blowing on the boy's ear.

"Fuck off!"

Adam sped up causing a massive air explosion that even broke windows on the city below. That's when he spotted the rooftops and shot toward them, moving faster than a fighter jet.

As the God entered the streets flying between the skyscrapers a wave of destruction followed him. Windows, light posts, cars, everything was exploding. However he was so fast people didn't even see what caused the destruction and he was already gone by the time they started screaming.

Calder held back his speed but stayed close enough to see him. Adam wanted to be alone and kept trying to lose the old man with turns and dives but the Water God wouldn't let go.

The anger was building up inside the boy and it was being used to increase his speed. They reached the edge of the city, leaving behind a trail of chaos and devastation as they raced toward the open ocean.

It was time. Calder had to stop Adam before he reached light speed and caused a massive time anomaly in the Material World.

"I'm sorry, son." The wise man whispered to himself anticipating his next action.

The clouds above them darkened, more appeared above them turning day into night in a matter of seconds. Adam looked back at Calder who was a couple dozen meters away from him with shining blue eyes that sent a chill down the boy's spine.

Rain collapsed over them as a whip. The drops were like thorns jabbing his face. Adam lost speed due to the lack of visibility and the actual pain from flying in those circumstances. To make it even harder to escape, lighting bolts sliced through the air in front of him, erupting into brilliant explosions.

He was soaked but kept pushing forward. Anticipating his capture, he peeked one more time on the Water God but this time he didn't see the Sparkling blue eyes. Desperation infected his heart and he started to search for Calder above and below. That was when something grabbed him, making him gasp.

Although he was heavier because of the force that was holding his whole body, Adam didn't stop.

As the Young God fought to keep running, a sudden jolt yanked him back, making him lose his breath. Something was pulling him back like a rope. Instead of moving ahead Adam was going backwards. He tried to fight back, but the force was overwhelming—he couldn't even move a finger.

A flash split the sky revealing a shadow standing in front of Adam. Bright blue eyes penetrated his soul, freezing him on the inside.

In the middle of an unknown ocean, there was no land in sight. The sun was gone and the electric discharges coming from the sky were the only source of light available.

"Enough." Even if he knew who that voice belonged to, it still sent shivers through to the fugitive's stomach.

"You have no idea what you are doing." Calder got within a distance Adam could his face more clearly. The man's expression was severe as he had never seen before.

"No joke!"

The boy's arms were pinned to his sides, his legs locked in place. It felt like something was crushing him but there was visibly nothing holding him up.

"You hurt people in the city. They had nothing to do with what happened to you!"

For the first time ever since they met, Adam saw the ocean on the Water God's eyes agitated just like the angry waves underneath them.

"You shouldn't have followed me then."

It was impossible to stay indifferent to the bright blue eyes while they were in the middle of a storm, the Playboy couldn't hold eye contact for too long.

"Maybe you're right, but I didn't want you to be alone today." In perfect tune with Calder's emotions, the waves started to calm down. "I know how it's like to be so powerful but so useless at the same time."

Adam's anger was giving in to the tight squeeze. He relaxed his muscles, letting the exhaustion bring his shoulders down.

"But you can't let it out on innocent people."

In the heat of the action, Adam didn't notice what was going on around him. As the older God was talking he reflected on what he caused while flying through the city. Honestly, the boy did not think about anyone else besides himself on that escape.

"I have to go back…"

The young man knew he was being scolded with no place to ask for anything but he needed to try. He had only one chance to attend his own funeral, and he wasn't about to miss it.

Even though the storm had calmed down and the clouds were clearing up, Calder's expression remained cold.

"Please! I need to be there."

Pondering the recent events, the Water God agreed in order to not cause any more destruction, although he could bring Adam back through force but that would hurt their relationship in the future.

"If things get out of hand I will detain you by all means necessary. I'm serious."

Without any protests Adam nodded. The water that soaked him dropped down and he was released from his restraints.

Calder's eyes were back to their normal indigo color and the storm was completely gone. Nothing else to be said, the wise man led the way back to Adam's house.
