Chapter 5: A Hint Of Power
Hailey
Asher stared at me intently as the last word hung in my throat with no way of taking them back...I didn't know just how much trouble I was in until a smirk began to form on his lips.
"Anything?" His demeanour was so calm, and I didn't know how to react. I didn't know what was the right thing to say. I wanted to be set free from everything that bounds me to the Alpha's. I was leaving the grasp of Levi and now, him, Asher. I couldn't deal with all of the surprises. I couldn't tell if he was serious or just wanted to play with me.
"Yes?"
"Good, I will protect you. If I need anything from you in the future, I will let you know but for now, you will stay here and do whatever I say. " I didn't get him. Why would I want a favour from the king to be hanging over my head? I didn't get why he wouldn't just tell me what he wanted from me. I tried to make sense of the reason why he was so calm about this but his expressions were so blank, I couldn't even predict what he might be thinking. I could hear the war cry from outside, and my patience was wearing thin, just by hearing Levi's voice just outside the field.
"Why don't you just tell me what you want from me?" I could feel a certain pull to him but I do not get why it was so strong. If I could access my wolf, I would be able to tell what was going on so that I could feel his emotions. But after the incident here, earlier before he had just arrived. My mind was just blank.
I wanted to be sure that what my wolf had cried out was the truth. Maybe it was the arrival of Levi that spooked us. I can't be mates with the Lycan king, it is not possible.
"Don't you feel it?" I shook my head, feigning ignorance. "Never mind, like I said. I will let you know when the time comes, for now; you will remain here. I don't want the whole kingdom getting the wrong idea."
I nodded. He didn't give me much of a choice. A much younger guy walked in with terror in his eyes.
"We are ready to attack." He avoided eye contact with me, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Asher kept staring at me intently as if he was trying to find out something about me.
"Attack? No, let's visit Levi. He doesn't know who I am yet, let me welcome him with a taste of my blade." Asher was calculating and his calm nature only made everything about his intention a bit more mysterious. Was he about to kill Levi? Even if after what had happened, I still didn't want any harm to come to him. My emotions were torn between Levi and Asher. None of these men were going to yield to the demands of the other because of me. For the period of working as a slave in the nightshade pack, I knew Levi would not back down if he sensed a threat in his power.
"Please, wait. You do not know Levi. He is the devil himself and trying to kill him would only make things worse." Asher frowned, titling his head, lost in thought as he watched me carefully.
"You seem to care for him. Well, you are under my protection; if he brings a fight here, then I am going to teach him a lesson." He was about to leave in this newfound anger that was quietly eating him up from the inside. He paused looking back at me, pointing his index finger at me. "First rule, do not speak of another man in my presence. I find that very disrespectful. Second, gather your strength you are coming with me. "
I was trying to fathom his words through his stern attitude. "Now!" I jumped off the bed immediately as he ushered me out of the room. I trailed off beside him, while I tried to hasten my steps to keep up. I knew I was going to die but not this way. I was going to be between two men who were going to have their heads on the cold floor. We reached the field where Levi and his men were just eager and ready for battle with their guns and bows and arrows.
"Well, you are nothing but a slut. I rejected you, and you went running in the arms of this man." Levi spat. I was confused; if Asher was the Lycan king, then he should be known. I didn't know the story here but it seemed that no one had no idea who he was. I had only caught a glimpse of who he was years back at a ceremony at one of the packs. That was how I knew him but it was a shame that Levi was oblivious to the truth.
"You will not speak to her like that. If you are here for her, then I will advise that you gather your troops and go back to where you came from because she is under my protection. Now. "
Levi felt disgusted. "Who are you to keep someone under your protection? " Asher narrowed his eyes, watching his movement and smiling in return.
"Black. Your father has always been an irrational man and it is a shame that he passed that trait on to you. You have been a prince of that good-for-nothing pack for how long, and you think you've got the guts to challenge me?!" I could see the disappointment in his eyes. It was clear that he expected more from Levi.
"If you think you are so important then care to enlighten me? Who the fuck are you to think that you can take my prisoner and keep her under your protection. " Asher raised a brow as Levi came up to him up close, they were eye to eye now. As calm as Asher was, I could feel his anger and everything I had felt for Levi had only fallen through the tracks.
"He doesn't know. Asher, the Lycan king.. "
Levi burst out into laughter. "You know it is weird that you can say that. The Lycan king has not made himself known for years and ever since the mantle was given to him, he hadn't made an appearance to his subjects. Although, he has made himself known through his works, the unity he has brought through the the kingdom. It is low for you to claim you are him..." He continued laughing at Asher to his face.
Asher growled his eyes were glowing red, startling Levi as he tried to move backwards. Asher was already transforming into this full form and that's quite rare for a Lycan king. They are not like us regular wolves; they are dangerous, and he is born one. He grabbed Levi by the neck. "You think this is funny?! I can have your head thrown to the woods and let your father come find them. Do you even bother to know why you guys are not part of the kingdom and living in the mountains? It was because your bloodline likes a challenge when they are not a very good match for the danger they invite." Asher's fangs were out, and I could tell that he wasn't able to control himself any longer. "She is mine. You will take your troops and go back. If I sense you close to the borders of my fortress, I would make an example of you."
"Asher, please ", I begged him, slowing my voice to echo silently in his ears. He got distracted, staring at me and letting go of Levi. Levi and his troops made a run for it as Asher eased into his usual self, shirtless as his black shirt was torn from the half transformation.
I could see the anger in his eyes. Looking over to the you get guy that walked in earlier.."Marcus set her up in a room and gave her the best medical care. She hasn't fully recovered."
He then turned to me, pointing at me, as his lips twitched in anger. "When you get better, we would need to have a proper conversation."
He didn't want me to reply before walking off with his guards trailing behind him. He left me out in the cold until Marcus walked to my side, leading the way.
