The Luna Strike Back

Chapter 8: Badass Woman ( Meghan Trainor )

Lucas's POV

As I sit at the dining table, watching Kaylie, Rose, and Luna Chiko exchange sneaky glances and giggles, it’s clear, they’re cooking up something. And not just dessert.

These women. They’re the kind of trio that could light up a war room with their laughter and then set it on fire with whatever wild plan they’ve secretly agreed on. Especially Kaylie. My Kaylie. She never fails to amaze me. Her energy, her quick wit, the way she finds sunshine even in the darkest storm, how does she do that after everything she’s been through?

She grew up in an orphanage, without the love of a real family. Yet here she is, warm, joyful, glowing. A literal light in my life. I remember when I was rejected by the other alphas for Alpha King. It crushed me. But she was right there with a smile and a crazy idea. “Let’s start the International Foundation for Harmonious and Hilarious Supernaturals.” I mean, who even says things like that? Kaylie does. And somehow, it made everything better.

Jenson, sitting beside me, leans over and whispers, “Luc, you seeing what I’m seeing? Something’s definitely up. Our wives are plotting.”

Alpha Gabriel, overhearing us, nods in agreement. “Yeah, same vibe here. Those three are passing more looks than a poker table. They’re absolutely scheming something we’d said no to.”

“Let’s not jump to conclusions,” I say, though even I’m squinting at Kaylie now. “Maybe they’re just brainstorming ways to handle Alpha Alex’s mess. Adrien’s vision gave us a pretty clear idea of what happened before Inggrid died.”

“Exactly,” Toby adds, picking up on the tension. “They’re probably just catching up. If something serious was up, Liana would’ve told me.”

We glance over at the girls. They’re all smiling, too much smiling. Kaylie catches me watching her and throws me a kiss across the table like a teenager with a secret. My suspicion spikes, but so does my smile. Damn, she’s cute when she’s sneaky.

“Are you three planning something behind our backs?” I ask, trying to sound stern, but the grin on my face betrays me.

“Noooo,” Kaylie says, far too fast.

“Definitely not, Alpha,” Rose echoes, looking away.

“We just thought we’d go check out the nursery you set up for Kaylie’s baby,” Luna Chiko adds innocently.

“Yeah,” Kaylie chimes in. “Rose and Chiko wanna see it again.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Rose, haven’t you already seen it? It’s exactly like yours. You two insisted on buying identical stuff because, and I quote, ‘It’s economical to buy two of everything.’”

“But Chiko hasn’t seen it in person yet,” Rose replies smoothly. “And we’re thinking maybe if we order three of everything, we can score a wholesale price.”

Jenson groans dramatically. “Ladies, your husbands are rich. Especially Lucas. Do you really need to hunt for wholesale baby carriers?”

“It’s not about the money,” Kaylie explains. “We just want our babies to have the same things. Same cribs, same shoes, even the same kindergarten. We’re building a whole generation of besties.”

“Thank the moon goddess Liana gave birth five months ago,” Toby mutters. “Otherwise, I’d be drowning in crib catalogs too.”

We all laugh, even Gabriel, who adds, “It’s like we’re stuck in this vortex of matching onesies and custom bottle warmers.”

Chiko leans in to Gabriel. “But you love it, right?”

Gabriel just smiles and blows her a kiss.

Then I turn to Kaylie, more serious this time. “Babe. You’re really not planning anything behind our backs? No wild plans? No solo missions? Look, this black magic thing, it just doesn’t add up. Huiwi sending black magic to Blue Sapphire Pack? What, is she using DHL? Or chartering a helicopter? It’s ridiculous. Our security is airtight.”

Kaylie rolls her eyes, but I press on.

“If anything happens, we’ll handle it as alphas. You three just need to stay safe and focus on growing those babies. That’s your mission right now. Okay?”

Kaylie gives me a nod… and then immediately winks at Chiko.

I sigh. That’s not suspicious at all.

I soften my voice. “Kaylie, I love you more than anything. And I know you want to help, but you don’t need to carry this burden. Your safety and our baby’s is my top priority. Let me worry about the threats.”

Her gaze meets mine, calm and fierce all at once. “I know you love me, Lucas. And I love you right back. But I don’t want to be sidelined just because I’m pregnant. I’m still me. I can still contribute. Don’t forget I’m not just your wife. I’m a werewolf, a vampire, and a doctor, Triple threat, babe.”

She grins, proud and radiant.

“Besides,” she adds with a wink, “who needs a bodyguard when you’ve got a badass mom-to-be like me? Three of us are badass women”

I chuckle despite myself. I mean, how can I argue with that?

I look at her. the woman who turned my world on its head and poured life back into it, wild and vibrant, like color flooding into a black-and-white painting. She brought laughter where there was silence, warmth where there was grief. And now, just watching her, full of fire and mischief, my heart clenches. Whatever she’s planning… I just pray it doesn’t put her or our baby at risk. I couldn’t bear it not again. The thought of losing her like I lost Leah. It terrifies me. That kind of pain never really leaves. And this time, I know it would destroy me completely.

But knowing Kaylie?

It probably does.
