The Lone Alpha: Rebirth

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: It’s Time to Hunt

The Sun seemed to be satisfied with giving off its daily light and heat as it slowly disappeared over the horizon. It gave off a magnificent dim glow, its silent farewell to the inhabitants of planet Earth...well those on the side facing it anyway.

A young man could be seen sitting atop a tree, about 50ft tall, facing the horizon. His eyes gave off a calm and peaceful feeling, his entire being oozing a gentle and soothing aura as he silently gazed at the fast disappearing sun.

He slowly took in a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh as the dim glow of the sun disappeared on the horizon. Dim yellow pupils peaked from his slightly opened eyelids, seemingly containing a strong primal force within. His chest slightly heaved as he stood up, his black coat fluttering with the wind.

"It's time." He said stretching his neck and arms, bone popping sounds echoing with each twist.

"I seriously hope they didn't cower and run or I might just regret a little on not taking Collin's offer." He slowly said, his gaze still fixed on the horizon. "Just a little." He added as he stepped off the branch, his figure rapidly descending towards the ground.

His bare feet landed heavily on the ground, cracking the earth and stirring up soil. He lightly patted his coat and glanced at the mansion before he proceeded to walk towards the city, his figure slowly merging with the shadows cast by the trees.

"It's about time to move out, everyone should double and triple-check their gear! I don't want any form of screw-ups." Ian said dressed in standard hunter gear. A brown leather armour, with the torso, shoulders, forearms, and knee areas further reinforced with a silver-coloured armour that could easily shrug off bullets. In his hand was a locked and loaded pump shotgun.

"Chill out will ya, everyone's already prepped and waiting." Sam said with a nonchalant expression on his face, puffing out smoke from his pursed lips.

"The cars are running and ready to go." Mark announced as he descended the stairs to the basement which served as their briefing room. Hung on the walls were multiple weapons of different kinds: assault rifles, shotguns, machine guns, knives, katanas, machetes, axes, and RPGs.

"Good, let's move out." Ian said as he secured his gun to his back and a sword by his side. The men dressed in armour from the neck down exited the basement and quickly moved towards the house entrance.

Already waiting outside were the rest of the team.

Amelia, Alex, Chris, Minnie, and Jessica. Together they made up D-Squad 258, one of the most powerful squads in the D-rank with a few members already possessing near C-rank strength. Each of them was dressed in the same leather armour with certain parts reinforced, and on their left shoulders, a large D was imprinted with their squad number below in a tinier size. Only C-rank squads and above were qualified to possess unit names as only then were they recognized as capable hunters.

Each member had a special trait or unique attribute that made them indispensable to the team.

Amelia, like most hunters, possessed strength and flexibility rivaling most gymnasts and a speed on par with Olympic champions. While these were certainly praiseworthy, it paled in comparison to her expert marksmanship and dexterity. Easily able to maintain near 100% accuracy even when in motion and able to accurately hit targets within a 300m range given appropriate weapons. Her choice of weapons included a pair of Glock-19 fastened to her sides in holsters, two short swords forming an X on her back, a bow -neatly folded and tucked into a pocket on the side of her right thigh- and a quiver of arrows. .

Sam was the powerhouse of the team, possessing a near-superhuman level of strength, speed, and endurance. His attributes put him as nearly C-rank, which would have truly been superhuman. Boasting formidable combat skills, he is a fearsome hunter with over a hundred recorded kills. His weapon of choice was a large Viking war hammer weighing about 20 pounds strapped on his back, a pump action Shotgun slung on one hand, and a black dagger fastened to his right thigh.

Mark had all round peak human attributes excluding his speed and dexterity, both already breaking through human limits and being the highest in the team. He is a dexterous all-round fighter that prioritizes attack speed and movement, his speed easily puts him on C-rank and his deadly attack style makes him a nightmare for his prey. Also an expert driver, his preferred choice of weapons were an AR-15 strapped across his shoulder, dual chained black daggers connected to his forearms and were detachable on command.

Chris was a blonde somewhat handsome guy, nearly 6ft tall with a lean muscular frame. Minnie was likewise blonde and nearly 6ft tall with a cute childish face that ignited men's desire to protect and possess, coupled with her figure that caused men to drool, she was what one would call cute but deadly...very deadly. Chris and Minnie- who to the best of their knowledge were dating - possess attributes that shore up each other's weaknesses and strengthen their strengths. Chris leaned more on a strength-based fighter and possesses a keen sense of smell and intuition while Minnie focused more on speed and possesses a keen sense of sight and hearing. They were both equipped with dual katanas strapped to their backs and M416 slung on their shoulders.

Alex stood silently, his face expressionless as he held tightly onto his silver Desert Eagle that contrasted sharply with his bronze skin. A katana clung to his back, a dagger fastened to his left thigh, and a heavy set of gloves adorned his hands. His strength was second only to Sam, and his durability, and regeneration nearly rivaled low-level monsters like rats. Being a trained medic, he is responsible for keeping his teammates alive when injured, a job he had never failed so far.

Jessica stood beside a black SUV, an excited expression on her face and an M416 in hand accompanied by a katana strapped to her back. She was the perfect blend of strength, speed, and endurance. An excellent tactical fighter and an excellent marksman that evokes fear in her targets, the weak ones anyway.

Ian silently gazed at his team, a sense of pride bloomed in him as he straightened his back. Being the leader of this squad required him to not only possess strength, speed, and endurance but also skills. Praised as a genius, his combat skills was nothing short of terrifying and his battle intuition essentially makes him a killing machine. His attributes are nothing to scoff at either for he was fast approaching superhuman level and wasn't far off from achieving C-rank. Blessed with outstanding intuition and a talent for Leadership, he is a capable hunter and leader that garnered respect even from other squads.

"While we're not fully clear on what we're facing, the highest probability is that they're rats. Our route is clear and if we're lucky the action will find us instead." He said, his eyes sharp and focused.

"Could we get to the action already, my blade hungers." Jessica groaned in complaint.

"Of course, let's not delay any longer." Ian said as he slowly put on his helmet, gears shifted as it adjusted to fit his head. A dark tinted glass shifted to cover his face, accompanied by a low hissing sound. The dark helmet gave off a cold chilly glint, like the visage of the grim reaper.

"It's time to hunt!"
