The King of Demon World

Chapter 6: Chapter 5

Yusuke is seen hiking through the woods. Earlier in the week, Botan tells Yusuke he has a new mission from Koenma. A powerful fighter named Genkai is about to give up their power to someone who they find worthy. However, a demon named Rando plans to take Genkai's power for himself and use it to cause chaos. Botan bribes Yusuke with tickets to a martial arts competition if he were to take the mission, with Yusuke agreeing. Back to current time, Yusuke climbs up the stairs leading to Genkai's dojo. When he reaches the top, he sees hundreds of other fighters waiting around. Yusuke realizes that Genkai is actually holding a competition, where the winner will gain her power.

Among the many challengers, Yusuke runs into Kuwabara, who tells Yusuke about how powerful Genkai is supposed to be. Just then, the doors to the dojo open revealing Genkai to be a petite older woman Genkai cuts to the chase and starts the first round of the competition. She pulls out a huge pot and informs the crowd that they will be drawing a piece of paper from the pot to determine if they will go on to the next round or not. If a participant's paper has a red mark on it, they will move on to the next round. The reason for this test is only those with strong enough spiritual power will be able to make the paper turn red. Yusuke and Kuwabara manage to make their papers red, while a lot of the other participants fail to do so. Because of this, two participants become angry by this seemingly unfair elimination process and decide to rush at Genkai. Genkai takes one look in their direction and releases a surge of spiritual power, throwing the men in the opposite direction, smashing into a gate. The crowed is stunned by her power, as well as giving Yusuke and Kuwabara the motivation to claim her talent.

The second round begins inside the dojo. Inside the crowd sees an array of video games and machines. The machines that are being focused on for this trial include a punching weight machine, a rock-paper-scissors machine, and a karaoke machine. If the opponent can receive a passing on two of the three games, they will advance to the next round. These rounds test the spiritual power of the contestants as well, only passing them if they have the spiritual talent. Over on the punching machine, Kuwabara scores 129 points. Yusuke comes over and scores 175 points. Another opponent comes by and scores 155 points. We also see a few other contestants try their luck on other machines, singing karaoke and participating in the rock-paper-scissors games. By the end of this round, twenty of the contestants pass and continue on to the next challenge.

The third round has the contestants having to pass through a dangerous forest. Genkai explains to them that there is danger lurking in every corner of the forest, so only the best will make it through. While scaring some of the contestants, most of them attempt this challenge. Yusuke and the participants start to run through the forest, with Genkai having no problem running past them, telling them she will wait for them at the end of the trail. Some of the participants fall victim to the traps inside, while others make use of their skills and traverse to the other side. Yusuke plans to take a straight path, thinking it would get him to the end point fastest. However, a large group of demon bats and their leader, Baldok, threaten Yusuke with death if he doesn't leave the forest. Yusuke does not retreat, and decides to fight the bats. While the demons are fast, they are nothing compared to other enemies that Yusuke already faced, such as Hiei. Yusuke easily beats up Baldok, then continues on through the forest.

Three hours since the start of this challenge, seven challengers emerge from the forest, Kuwabara being the first one to do so. Kuwabara looks around for Yusuke, and is worried that Yusuke won't make it in time. Genkai informs them that she cannot wait any longer and that they need to proceed to the next round. Just then, Yusuke arrives from the forest, explaining to Genkai that he got delayed thanks to a large bat demon. This impresses Genkai, as Baldok was one of her best defenders. Impressed, Genkai allows Yusuke to continue on to the next round with the other seven.

The eight qualified fighters made it to the final round where they will match up against each other. The catch, however, is that they will fight in the dark. Genkai insisted that the fighters should be able to see with their spirit energy. The first match was between a ninja bodyguard named Kazemaru, and a contract hitman named Kuroda, in which Kazemaru was victorious, by emitting a spirit blast from his hand. The second match was between a young psychic-in-training named Shorin, and a wanderer named Chinpo, in which Shorin was victorious in a close battle. The third battle was between Kuwabara and a swordsman named Musashi. Musashi was a samurai expert, and needless to say he beats Kuwabara fiercely. But at one point Kuwabara uses brute strength making Musashi's sword break in half. Enraged, Musashi attacks Kuwabara, but suddenly out of desperation his spiritual powers form in the broken sword he is holding and unleashes his special technique — the Spirit Sword which knocks out Musashi for good as Kuwabara advances to the semi-finals.

During the break, Koenma reminds Yusuke that his job wasn't done, as he has to find Rando and prevent him from gaining Genkai's power. Then out of nowhere a familiar face comes in for Yusuke, who happens to be Botan. Botan then says she will help Yusuke find the person (or demon) he was looking for. Kuwabara notices Yusuke talking to a cute girl and, being the playboy that he is, breaks in and asks Botan for a date as Genkai calls in the competitors for the next bout

The next match was between Yusuke and the guy who scored 155 points in the punching machine challenge - Kibano. Genkai, seeing how overconfident Yusuke is, throws a lit cigarette in front of his face and barely misses him and as it rolls into the darkness. Kibano then wears a strange helmet and, together with Yusuke, they enter the darkness where they would fight. However, as they start their battle, Kibano easily gains the upper hand and almost sees everywhere Yusuke moves in the dark. Kibano easily beats up Yusuke, much to his shock. A concerned Botan and Kuwabara cheers on Yusuke, as he tries to counterattack with his devastating punches, but he only hits the air. Kibano again nails Yusuke hard and brings him down. Kibano then explains that the helmet he is wearing is a night vision gadget, and he can see his every move in the dark, making it a one-way battle. Yusuke gasps for air .

Despite taking several hits Yusuke stands up against Kibano, still hoping to find a way to gain the upper hand. As Kibano attacks one more time, Yusuke grabs his arm hoping not to let him go and lose him again in the dark, but Kibano, with his brute strength, lifts him up and throws him out of the way. Now Yusuke cannot attack from afar or close since he gets countered easily and is frantic for a solution Then Yusuke decides to use his final attack, the spirit gun. He concentrates energy on his pointing finger, but despite the enormous strength Kibano feels, he still feels confident since Yusuke cannot see him in the dark. Kibano starts to attack hoping to land the finishing blow, and was about to strike behind Yusuke, when suddenly Yusuke turns around and fires the spirit gun right in front of a surprised Kibano, hitting him hard in the head and breaking his helmet, knocking him out. Surprised, Kibano asks Yusuke how he saw him attack, and Yusuke explains that when he was thrown by Kibano in the previous attack he secretly placed the cigarette Genkai threw earlier into Kibano's belt, making it a pivotal viewpoint on Yusuke's rei gun. With that, Yusuke wins and advances to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals start in a new venue, the wilderness of the spirits. Genkai then picks the first semi-final match, Kazemaru against an exhausted Yusuke. Now Yusuke is more desperate than ever, as he already used his rei gun and now must face a new enemy without much of his strength. Kazemaru, a very speedy ninja, easily beats up an exhausted Yusuke. Yusuke tries an uppercut but barely misses Kazemaru. Now Kazemaru realizes Yusuke has some strength left, so he uses some of his spirit-seeking shurikens to beat him. Yusuke evades the frontal assault but realizes the shurikens following his every move, and gets hit by the next attack.

Now in need of a solution, Yusuke turns to Kuwabara and utters the words "It's all up to you" as Yusuke attacks Kazemaru straight up hoping to bring him down together with him. Kazemaru realizes Yusuke's patented "return the seeking missile to sender" move and tries to use his special attack that defeated his first opponent to finish Yusuke off. Just then, Yusuke disappears in front of Kazemaru, and a shocked Kazemaru gets nailed by his own shurikens and is defeated.

Botan and Kuwabara are surprised about Yusuke's instant disappearance move and Genkai assumes out of desperation Yusuke unleashed his secret technique but then we see a hand rising out of a small pond and it turns out that Yusuke accidentally fell into the pond as he was rushing into Kazemaru, which caused his disappearance and a shuriken backfire that led to his victory. Now Yusuke advances to the final and awaits the winner of the next match between Kuwabara and Shorin. Botan walks up to Yusuke, and whispers in his ear, telling him that they may have narrowed it down, noting that Kazemaru can't be Rando. If he was, he would have automatically reverted to his true form upon being knocked out. They both come to the same conclusion - Shorin must be Rando in disguise.

Kuwabara gets overconfident since he doesn't feel any power coming from Shorin, and so does Botan and Yusuke. They wondered if Rando even joined the competition since they weren't sensing anything strong. Now the matchup between Kuwabara and Shorin starts and Kuwabara quickly lands his punches that knocks Shorin down. This shocks everyone, seeing how weak Shorin was. Then Shorin unleashes a secret attack - spheres pf inferno , as fireballs are hurled towards a shocked Kuwabara. But then Kuwabara has something up his sleeve and unleashes his Spirit Sword and promptly deflects Shorin's fireballs back at him, burning him down. Now Kuwabara looks pretty good in winning the match, and he prepares for the final blow but then Shorin utters some weird words which turns out to be the key to his most devastating technique, the dwarf invocation, and in seconds Kuwabara turns into an entity as small as an ant, even a caterpillar looks like an elephant to him now. Genkai tells Yusuke that the creators of the spell that Shorin is using have been dead for centuries, so it should be impossible for him to use it. This strikes a chord with Yusuke who realizes Shorin has to be the demon he is looking for: Rando.

Shorin uses this advantage and sadistically crushes Kuwabara with his fists, breaking all of his bones and possibly paralyzing him for life. Yusuke sees this and in anger tries to attack Shorin, but Genkai prevents him from doing so because their matchup is going on. After a while, Genkai gives Shorin the win and demands he let Kuwabara go. Then Shorin throws Kuwabara and Kuwabara returns to his normal size. Yusuke and Botan come to his aid, fearing the worst. Luckily, Kuwabara is still alive. As Botan and Yusuke tend to him, Shorin talks to Genkai about her technique with great interest.

Now more furious than ever, Yusuke, who was just exhausted a minute ago from his previous fights, displays a strong spiritual power and out of nowhere attacks Shorin as the final of Genkai's competition starts. Yusuke kicks Shorin out of his anger and beats Shorin down. Then Shorin leaps to the air and discharges another special attack, the sickle and tornado as air forms into circular cutting tools and injures Yusuke. Now Yusuke cannot attack from the front since the circular cutters will tear him apart, but still continues his assault. He leaps up and passes through the middle of the circular cutters all the way and smashes his arm right through Shorin's neck and brings him down. Yusuke survives and promptly thinks he just won the match, but Genkai starts informing him that the game is not over. She subsequently asked him did he really think that Rando could be beaten so easily.

Suddenly an earthquake arises and from underneath, Shorin's body starts to lacerate, and a demonic creature arises. Now Yusuke must face his worst nightmare as he confronts the person he was looking for all this time - Rando who appears in front of Yusuke and his intimidating presence starts to give Yusuke the creeps. Yusuke starts giving Rando a barrage of hard-hitting punches but it doesn't even make Rando budge. Then Rando counters with the Life-Force Thread technique, which binds Yusuke and immobilizes him. Rando then hangs Yusuke from a lake, then with his powers summons some flesh-hunting killer demon fish around Yusuke. Botan tries to convince Genkai to stop the matchup but Genkai does not give in, saying the show is not finished. Then out of nowhere Rando points his finger towards Yusuke and unleashes his own Spirit Gun. Rando breaks the branch Yusuke is hanging on, sending him into the lake below.

Yusuke seemed to give up and was ready to die when a flash of light suddenly comes out of Kuwabara and scares the demon fish off. Kuwabara then uses his spirit to speak to Yusuke and motivates him to get back into the fight, and with that, Yusuke regains his strength and breaks his bonds, and kills the demon fish. Rando tries to shoot Yusuke with his Spirit Gun while he's still in the lake, but Yusuke appears behind him and, using his full strength, he then unleashes the real Spirit Gun. Rando counters with his version but the real one is just too powerful as it blows Rando off and destroys the lake with him.

Yusuke goes down with all his strength used up and believing he just beat Rando. Just then, Rando rises from the now destroyed lake and, now totally enraged, starts beating the hell out of the now unconscious Yusuke with a shower of attacks. Now Rando decides he should crush Yusuke just like what he did earlier to Kuwabara, and then starts uttering his dwarf invocation technique again. Expecting to finish Yusuke off, something goes wrong - Rando was the one getting smaller. Now Rando has gotten smaller as Genkai explains that a wise person can just cover his ears upon hearing the invocation, and the technique will backfire and bring the caster down to mini-size, but Yusuke was unconscious and didn't cover his ears. Just then, Yusuke regains his consciousness and realizes that he got some swamp algae stuck in his ears. Rando decides to reverse the invocation technique, but Yusuke gives him an enormous elbow drop and knocks Rando out of the game.

As Boton collects the unconscious Rando to take to Spirit World, Genkai heals Kuwabara back to his normal self as Yusuke rejoices over winning the competition. Now Yusuke can watch the martial arts competition he always wanted to watch since his mission is over, but Genkai then tells him since he won the competition, her power must now be transferred to him, so Yusuke must train in her place to gain that power. With that, Yusuke faints once he wakes up the next day he asks now that I'm your official aprrentice and we don't have to hide anymore there's something that I want to know about your tournament as he shows her a list of techniques that he wants to learn Kazemaru's spirit blast sphere's of inferno and sickle and tornado she sighs then upon seeing what's on it then says Have Boton pick up your homework for the next 4 months he nods then she does so and he does that first before anything else he completes it within 2 weeks then has Boton turn it in.

Next Genkai puts his body through the ringer even more than he ever was before not only did he learn the three techniques that he wanted to learn but he also learned how to improve his spirit gun so that he can fire it more than once a day lastly he also learned the shotgun technique he kept practicing each technique until they no longer drained all of his energy with one attack however the spirit blast from Kazemaru still drains alot of energy as does the ones he learned from Rando however Genkai has him doing energy control exercises so that doesn't keep happening she also teaches him once his reserves and control reach a good enough level how to do a basic energy barrier to guard against spirit energy to guard against demon energy is a harder barrier to learn and Yusuke isn't ready for that one yet.

Meanwhile Kuwabara not only went to the event at Tokyo Dome he also got to learn from the fighters there as it was all arranged by Boton he even learned from the losers of the competition they only taught him the basics of their styles but it was enough that he improved enough so that he could create his own style and during this time Boton also trained him and helped him with his homework she put him through the same things that she put Yusuke through she even helped him learn how to control his spirit sword to the point that it drains the same as one bullet from a spirit gun blast after that she left him on his own however one person was intrigued with Kuwabara's growth and awakened powers and that was Kurama he never knew that Kuwabara ever had powers before now truth is that he did but they were so low before that someone of Hiei or Kurama's strength would have never felt it before now.
