Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Tatsuya and Remi’s Secret Spark!!
Wandering the school aimlessly, Tatsuya's ears caught a voice he'd rather not hear.
"Found you!" Remi chirped.
"…Dr. Yasutake, what do you want?" Tatsuya asked, suppressing a sigh.
"Nothing, just wanted to see you!" she said with a grin.
Tatsuya exhaled. Here we go.
The day after the Blanche incident, Remi had confessed to Tatsuya. They'd agreed to keep things discreet at school, but today, Remi's restraint seemed nonexistent.
"How about tea in the health room?" she suggested.
"No plans, so fine," Tatsuya said.
"To the health room we go!" Remi said, practically bouncing.
"Don't blame me if someone sees us," Tatsuya warned.
He'd told Miyuki, but their relationship was a secret. A student dating the school doctor, even if she was just a health officer, would stir trouble.
"Health room, arrived!" Remi announced. "Currently unoccupied!"
"You're neglecting your duties," Tatsuya said dryly.
"It's fine!" Remi said. "I want uninterrupted time with you."
"Selfish as always," Tatsuya muttered.
The health room, meant for sick or injured students, had seen only a perfectly healthy Tatsuya lately.
"I can't exactly drag a high schooler around at night," Remi said.
"I wouldn't mind," Tatsuya replied.
"No way!" Remi said. "You're an honor student! Getting suspended for bad behavior would be a disaster!"
"Inferior student," Tatsuya corrected. "Otherwise, I wouldn't be in Course 2."
"You always dodge like that!" Remi huffed. "Your skills aren't graded, but in real combat, you're top-tier!"
"That's not something the school should hear," Tatsuya said.
A school doctor complaining about the magic high school's grading system? Tatsuya knew that wasn't for others' ears.
"Hey, Tatsuya-kun," Remi said.
"Finally using my name," Tatsuya noted. "You kept saying 'you' earlier."
"Well, if someone overheard, it'd be trouble!" Remi said. "Calling you 'Shiba-kun' feels too formal."
"Would it have mattered?" Tatsuya said. "I called you Dr. Yasutake."
"Exactly!" Remi said. "You promised to use my name when we're alone!"
"Got it, Remi," Tatsuya said. "Couldn't hold back today, huh?"
Flashing the gentle smile he reserved for Miyuki, Tatsuya watched Remi's face turn beet red.
"You're surrounded by pretty girls!" Remi protested. "Even if we're dating, I only get you after school or on rare weekend moments. My patience has limits!"
"Can't be helped," Tatsuya said. "Teacher and student—it's a problematic pair in the eyes of the world."
"Then I'll quit teaching!" Remi declared.
"Don't be ridiculous," Tatsuya said. "You worked hard to become a doctor."
"But…" Remi pouted.
Tatsuya pulled her close, gently stroking her hair. Startled, Remi froze, then nestled into his chest, hugging back.
"Quite the clingy teacher," Tatsuya teased.
"I let students lean on me," Remi said. "Can't I lean on my boyfriend?"
"Not saying you can't," Tatsuya said. "But at least wait until we're somewhere private. That hallway stunt was risky."
"You'd handle it," Remi said. "I've heard about your freshman recruitment week heroics."
"That was nothing," Tatsuya said. "Air bullets? Anyone could dodge them if they know the trajectory."
"Not many can read trajectories like you," Remi countered, puffing her cheeks.
Finding her pout adorable, Tatsuya poked her cheek.
"Unyu!" Remi squeaked.
"Air's leaking," Tatsuya said.
"What was that for?" Remi whined.
"You're cute," Tatsuya said.
"Idiot," Remi mumbled.
Her retort lacked force, betraying her embarrassment.
"Oh, right!" Remi said. "It's your birthday today, isn't it?"
"You're well-informed," Tatsuya said.
"I'm the school doctor," Remi said. "Student profiles are easy to get."
"You're not misusing them, are you?" Tatsuya asked.
"Of course not!" Remi said. "I'm not sharing girls' measurements with boys!"
"…You're sharing them?" Tatsuya said, raising an eyebrow.
"N-no, I mean, it's fine!" Remi stammered.
"If you were charging for it, we'd have a problem," Tatsuya said.
He knew Remi wouldn't do that, but her flustered reaction—thinking he took her seriously—trapped her.
"Remi, pick your audience for jokes," Tatsuya said.
"…Huh? You knew it was a joke!?" Remi said.
"Obviously," Tatsuya said. "If you were doing that, we'd be done by now."
"No! It was a joke—don't talk about breaking up!" Remi said, clinging to his leg, nearly in tears.
"I'm kidding," Tatsuya said, patting her head. "I wouldn't dump a girlfriend this cute."
"Tatsuya-kun, I'm older than you, you know?" Remi said.
"Obviously," Tatsuya said. "I'm a high schooler, so you can't be younger."
"Then here's a birthday gift from your older girlfriend," Remi said.
Leaning toward Tatsuya, who was seated, she slowly brought her face closer. Sensing her intent, Tatsuya decided to play a prank.
"Want a drink? I'll make one," he said.
"Huh? Wait—" Remi faltered.
"Got you," Tatsuya said.
Before she could recover, Tatsuya kissed her. Remi froze, stunned.
"Not very mature for an adult," Tatsuya teased.
"Tatsuya-kun!" Remi huffed.
"Turning red like that? Hardly an older sister vibe," he said.
Unlike Remi's crimson flush, Tatsuya remained unfazed, looking the more mature one.
"That was my first kiss!" Remi said.
"Mine too," Tatsuya said.
"What? Then how are you so calm!?" Remi said, her face reddening further.
"I told you," Tatsuya said. "My emotions are limited. Even my love is faint compared to others."
"Oh…" Remi said, faltering. "I'm sorry…"
"No need to apologize," Tatsuya said. "You're blushing enough for both of us."
"Ugh!" Remi said, realizing she was being teased again.
She stepped forward to playfully swat him, but her plan crumbled instantly.
"I want to see you blush even more," Tatsuya said.
"!?" Remi froze, her face reaching peak redness as her imagination ran wild.
