The Holy Son in Marvel

Chapter 158: Chapter 158: The Dreaded Client

The Supreme Sorcerer's unusual behavior worried Solomon, but seeing his reluctance to discuss it, Solomon didn't press further. He quietly left the meditation room, gently closing the door behind him. With his work unfinished, he instructed the Mystic responsible for the Supreme Sorcerer's care not to disturb him, then opened a portal and returned to the chemistry lab at Eton College.

Tonight, besides an alchemical order he needed to fulfill, he also had a few spells to transcribe into his spellbook. Among them was the resurrection spell, an incredibly useful magic that he hadn't yet shared with the Kamar-Taj library. Previously, he had contributed spells like the Blade Pact and the Mana Bomb invocation, which had significantly enhanced Kamar-Taj's offensive capabilities. Since these spells utilized the power of Vishanti, they filled a critical gap in the Book of Vishanti—if the book had included offensive spells, Kamar-Taj's mystics wouldn't have had to resort to close combat, as using magic from other dimensions often came at a steep cost that not everyone could afford.

Take, for example, the spell "Crimson Bands of Cyttorak" cast through the Crimson Cosmos. Since it doesn't draw on Vishanti's power, the price mystics pay to Cyttorak is far greater. It's a spell with extremely high interest rates, so no Mystic would willingly cast it unless absolutely necessary. Even Solomon's adjustment from "Infernal Shout" to "Faltine Shout" involved a price, although borrowing power from Faltine was far less costly than from Hell. The Mana Bomb and Blade Pact spells that use Vishanti's power have helped minimize the mystics' metaphorical "bills."

Thus, Solomon wanted to transcribe several spells owned by the Celestial Church's warlocks into Kamar-Taj's spellbooks. Previously, he'd already added one spell, "Vishanti's Sacred Flame," and now planned to include "Vishanti's Guiding Arrow, Lesser Restoration, Resurrection, and Daylight." He believed Kamar-Taj's Mana Bomb faction would appreciate these spells, particularly the Guiding Arrow, which was ideal for mystics who disliked close combat—like Master Hamir, who seemed hardly able to walk anymore, let alone engage in melee combat.

As for Kamar-Taj's existing spell, Flame Shaping, Solomon didn't need to make any modifications. Since the Book of Vishanti lacked offensive spells, Kamar-Taj's mystics had spent centuries refining Flame Shaping to such a level that it even produced the spell "Vishanti's Holy Sword." This spell, in fact, served as the basis for the Supreme Sorcerer's modifications to the Blade Pact.

This was destined to be a busy night. Once Solomon completed the alchemical order, he still needed to bring Jeanne and Bayonetta back to New York. Luckily, a Mystic didn't need the planetary defense system to locate the witch, as he could simply open a portal to Rodin's bar.

"Good evening, Rodin," Solomon greeted the Hell's Gate bar owner as he stepped out of the portal. Then he mentioned an order he'd placed with Rodin. Fallen Angel Rodin was perhaps Earth's finest craftsman of magical items. Solomon would provide the enchantments, and Rodin would craft the smaller magical items Solomon required—like the shoes he wore, which had a "Grease" spell embedded. This time, however, he'd come not just to retrieve Jeanne and Bayonetta but to pick up a specific item.

"It's done." Rodin nodded, pulling out a tiny garment from behind the bar. It was a custom-made item Solomon had ordered: a gray-blue hooded outfit for a cat. It was no ordinary pet garment but a magical item. The cat outfit featured two miniature sleeve-blades at the front paws, which could be controlled by the wearer's thoughts. Additionally, it included a Spider Climb spell, enabling the wearer to climb walls—a feature Solomon had added to enhance his Cheshire Cat's combat capabilities. After all, the Cheshire Cat was his familiar, and while its main purpose was transmitting contact spells, Solomon hoped it could be of greater assistance.

Or rather, of greater assistance to Bayonetta, as she always took the cat along when hunting angels. Solomon couldn't understand why; the cat did nothing but meow incessantly.

"I can't believe you actually ordered something like this," Rodin remarked, extinguishing his cigar but leaving a lingering smoky scent. "You're really stooping to relying on a cat's help now?"

"That's no ordinary cat; it's a familiar." After inspecting the outfit, Solomon sat at the bar and ordered a strawberry sundae, waiting for Jeanne and Bayonetta to finish their work. "Where are my other orders?" he asked casually. "I've had so many ideas lately. For instance, the metal cane that can transform into a whip. I can hardly believe you actually completed it; I only provided a rough sketch."

Rodin's expression, hidden behind his sunglasses, looked irritated. "It took me forever to craft those tiny sleeve blades. They had to be small yet strong. Your design was only suitable for a full-size blade; the other details were useless! And that damn cane—it requires both transformation and enchantment. Your 'animated rope' spell wouldn't have sufficed for the mechanism alone!"

Solomon shrugged. Ordering custom weapons was his only option. The Sword of Victory wasn't a tool he could easily wield; it was far too powerful and energy-consuming (and this was the main reason). He needed a weapon he could readily use in everyday situations. Most of his designs were based on the transforming weapons from Bloodborne, but to his surprise, Rodin had managed to bring these weapons to life, even including decorative flourishes that were mostly aesthetic.

Currently, Solomon possessed a transforming twin blade (the Luoyang) and a threaded cane. Being a die-hard fan of Bloodborne, he was even considering commissioning more weapons from Rodin, including some firearms—though he only had rough sketches, so Rodin would have to devise the actual mechanisms. To Rodin, Solomon was the embodiment of a "nightmare client," constantly nitpicking and giving instructions. Were Solomon not a Mystic from Kamar-Taj and a Saint, Rodin would have vaulted over the bar and given him a thrashing.

Bayonetta and Jeanne also seemed intrigued by these weapons, especially Jeanne, who favored the transforming twin blade over her usual rapier. With users and testers for his creations, Rodin received constant feedback, and the steady stream of positive reviews helped soothe the grumpy craftsman's temper as he pored over Solomon's diagrams.

Still, Rodin didn't put on a friendly face for Solomon; once people became familiar, formality faded. He grumbled and cursed as he served Solomon his dessert—a necessity, as his bar, located in a poor neighborhood, barely turned a profit and required mundane money to purchase supplies.

"Where's Enzo?" Solomon looked around. The heavyset information broker, a regular, was nowhere to be seen, a rare occurrence.

"Today's his wedding anniversary," Rodin grunted. "I don't know how that pig managed to land such a good wife. A guy like him should be destined to die alone."

"Perhaps love is just irrational like that."

"Like between you and Bayonetta? Maybe throw Jeanne into the mix too," Rodin teased, smirking.

"That's irresponsible speculation, Rodin. It's only Bayonetta."
