Chapter 77: Chapter 77
Snap!
Danzo slammed his hand on the desk in anger.
Even though the Third Hokage had removed his status as a village elder—
In Konoha…
Who dared to speak to him like that?
"I may not be Hokage or an official elder," Danzo said, his tone heavy with pride, "but I am the head of the Gennin Division!"
"Oh. Gennin?" Yoruha raised a brow and casually waved his hand. "Sorry, never heard of it. Next."
The room went quiet. The air in the office turned ice-cold.
Shimura Danzo glared at Yoruha with fire in his eyes, the sound of grinding teeth sharp in the silence.
But Yoruha didn't flinch.
He met Danzo's murderous stare with cool indifference.
At that moment, Koharu Utatane, who had been silent all along, finally spoke up:
"Yoruha Yamanaka," she said, "Danzo may no longer hold the official title of elder, but he remains one of Konoha's senior advisors. The punishment he proposed has already received our full approval."
"So," she said curtly, "hand over the bounty."
Ten million ryō.
That was equivalent to more than a dozen S-rank missions.
How could they let two rule-breakers walk away with such a reward?
Danzo, Koharu, and Homura weren't just angry—they were furious.
Yoruha smiled faintly.
"Actually…" he said, "if you really want me to hand it over, I won't say it's impossible."
"But first—show me the official policy of Konoha Village."
"Show me the clause that says using an IOU to upgrade a mission's rank is punishable."
"If it's there? Fine. I'll hand over the money."
"But if it's not—then I'm sorry."
He leaned forward slightly, his voice calm but sharp as a blade.
"Because from where I stand, why should I or Anko give up our bounty?"
"Just because you're old?"
His words were clear and cutting.
This wasn't about the money.
It was about dignity.
Click!
The temperature in the room dropped again as Homura Mitokado suddenly stood up.
"Hmph! Just because we're the elders of Konoha! That's reason enough!" he snapped.
In Konoha Village, the elders held a status second only to the Hokage.
Sometimes—even the Hokage had to follow their lead.
And now some brat had the gall to talk back to them?
"Haha… so you're trying to use your elder status to pressure me now?" Yoruha chuckled.
"But I remember something from the Ninja Academy textbook."
"It said—Konoha belongs to everyone, not just to a select few."
He turned to the Third Hokage.
"You wrote those words yourself, didn't you, Lord Hokage?"
Sarutobi sighed. "Yes… that's correct."
"In that case," Yoruha continued, "shouldn't matters in Konoha be handled by the village's laws, not by the personal rules of a few elders?"
"Am I wrong?"
"You brat!" Mitokado growled. "Still wet behind the ears and already this arrogant!"
Both Mitokado and Danzo stood up, their chakra flaring with malice, as if they were about to strike.
"Oh?" Yoruha said with a smirk. "Are you really about to throw a tantrum?"
"I'd love to see what skills you so-called 'senior officials' actually have—besides sitting in chairs all day."
He casually reached for the sword at his waist.
The mocking smile on his face deepened.
Gulp.
Watching things spiral out of control, Anko swallowed nervously.
Yoruha's chakra was rising.
His tone was getting bolder.
The wind around him seemed to stir.
"Yoruha," she whispered, tugging his sleeve, "don't act on impulse. This isn't the time or place."
She was just as furious as he was.
But attacking Danzo or the elders?
That was a one-way ticket to being labeled a rogue ninja.
Yoruha, however, just smiled.
With perfect calm, he drew his ninja sword—not in aggression, but casually—and reached into his backpack.
He pulled out an apple.
Then, with a flick of the blade, he began to peel it slowly.
"Do something?" he said, voice full of sarcasm. "Who said anything about doing something?"
"I just wanted to see if my sword is still sharp enough to peel fruit."
