The Heavens: From Naruto to sign in

Chapter 65: Chapter 65

"What?! Grandpa Third, why!"

Naruto shouted from the side, clearly upset.

"Why can Yoruha take C-rank missions, but our team is still stuck doing D-rank stuff?"

Even though Naruto had long given up on competing with Yoruha, he still wanted to do more advanced missions.

After all—he was going to be Hokage someday!

How could someone destined for that title waste their days chasing cats and walking dogs?

The Third Hokage gave Naruto a sidelong glance.

This kid had a decent heart… but his attitude was pure Kushina. That scowl, that loudmouth—it was like seeing her all over again.

"Naruto," the Third Hokage said calmly, "Yoruha has completed twenty D-rank missions and three C-rank missions since graduation. All by himself."

"And what about you? You're on a three-person team, and so far, you've completed—what, three D-rank missions? And one of them even received a formal complaint?"

"With that kind of performance, how can I assign your team more serious tasks?"

Naruto pouted, clearly unconvinced.

"That complaint wasn't even my fault! It was Sasuke trying to show off and ruining everything! Honestly, Third Grandpa, I don't get it—why am I even on the same team as that guy? He's the one dragging me down!"

The room fell silent.

Everyone stared.

Who was dragging whom down?

Naruto probably couldn't even count that high.

After leaving the Hokage building, Anko unrolled the mission scroll and scanned its contents.

"Well then, looks like we're headed to the Land of Waves for this one. I've heard it's a beautiful little country on the water. Lots of seafood, maybe even some sweet desserts…"

Yoruha gave her a skeptical look.

Beautiful scenery equals tasty food? Was that really how logic worked?

Then again…

From a certain angle, that kind of thinking did make sense.

He took the scroll from her and read through it himself.

Though his expression stayed calm, deep down he was relieved.

The Land of Waves.

Tazuna.

Zabuza.

Finally—this was it.

The mission he'd been waiting for.

At the Mission Reception Hall, Anko handed the scroll to the staff overseeing client intake.

Not long after, a disheveled old man came stumbling out, reeking of alcohol.

It was Tazuna, the master bridge builder.

"Eh? Just two people?" Tazuna frowned. "And one of you's a kid? I asked for a C-rank mission! Didn't the listing say there'd be a four-person team?"

He yanked off his straw hat in frustration.

He'd worked so hard to scrape together enough coin for this escort mission.

And this was what he got?

Was Konoha just screwing with him?

The staff member smiled and tried to reassure him.

"No need to worry, sir. There are only two people because this is a special team. Their strength is more than sufficient."

He leaned in slightly and whispered.

"And between you and me… they're both directly connected to the Hokage."

"Direct descendants of the Hokage?" Tazuna blinked.

That gave him pause.

The truth was—Tazuna had lied a bit about the true danger level of the mission.

He had to get back to the Land of Waves and finish building the bridge.

But if something went wrong, and these two were related to the Hokage?

He'd be in serious trouble with the Leaf Village.

Still… if the road ahead really was as dangerous as he feared, having these two at his side was the safest option.

For the sake of the people of the Land of Waves—

He'd take the risk.

On the road to the Land of Waves, Anko and Yoruha led the way.

Tazuna followed quietly behind them, a faint nervousness lingering on his face.

"Yoruha," Anko said as they walked, "this trip's going to take four or five days at our current pace. So as your responsible, wilderness-savvy mentor, I figure it's time to teach you some survival skills!"
