the forbidden romance of the norm

Chapter 6: chapter 5 : the clash of giant

Dimitri and Anya arrived at the stadium, the air buzzing with anticipation. Before heading to the dressing room, Dimitri turned to Anya, a hint of nervousness in his eyes. "Wish me luck," he said, his voice a little strained. "I might need it. This is a big one. And cheer me on—or I might get completely destroyed." He added a playful grin, attempting to lighten the tense atmosphere.

The stadium was a cauldron of noise, a roaring contest between passionate fans. Tonight's match was a derby clash between Liverpool and Manchester City, the top two teams in the league. Liverpool, despite their formidable reputation, were considered underdogs according to the pre-match statistics and expert predictions. The atmosphere was electric; the anticipation palpable.

Much of the pre-game buzz surrounded Dimitri himself, a rising star and the son of a Liverpool legend. He was undeniably talented, a promising young player with exceptional skill, but the pressure was immense. The fans were eager to see if he could live up to the hype, if he could deliver a performance worthy of his name and lineage. Could he showcase the exceptional abilities everyone was talking about? Could he defy the odds? Anya listened, a growing swell of pride filling her. She found herself wanting to be near him, to offer silent support, to witness this moment—to see his dream unfold before her eyes.

The match began disastrously for Liverpool. Manchester City's star players, De Bruyne and Haaland, scored two quick goals, leaving Liverpool two goals down early in the game. Haaland, in particular, was unstoppable, scoring back-to-back goals and seemingly on his way to a hat-trick. Anya watched, her anxiety growing. She didn't want to see Dimitri defeated, didn't want to see the team lose, and especially didn't want to witness the crushing disappointment on Dimitri's face. Liverpool's morale plummeted; three goals down against a team like Manchester City seemed insurmountable.

Then, Dimitri, the young captain, roared his lungs out, silencing the stadium for a moment with the pure power of his voice. "We will not be defeated!" he bellowed, his voice raw with emotion and determination. "The fans are roaring for us; we will roar like tigers and fight back! We will not give up! We will win this!"

His words, fueled by sheer passion, ignited a spark in his teammates. The previously dejected players found renewed energy, their movements sharper, their passes more precise, though an opening goal remained elusive.

Then, from fifty meters out, Dimitri unleashed a thunderous shot—a rocket that soared past the keeper's outstretched hands and into the net. The stadium erupted; the tide had turned. He followed up with two more stunning goals, both from outside the box. The previously hopeless situation was now a tie. The stadium erupted, the fans' cheers deafening.

At halftime, the mood had completely shifted. Liverpool fans were ecstatic, celebrating the incredible comeback orchestrated by their young captain. Manchester City fans, meanwhile, were stunned and frustrated. The new star, Dimitri, had not only demonstrated exceptional skill but also shown the leadership qualities of a seasoned captain. His inspirational speech and performance had transformed the game.

The halftime break was a cacophony of cheers and celebratory roars, a testament to Dimitri's incredible performance. The crowd, still buzzing from the stunning comeback, was amazed by the young player's skill and the audacity of his goals. Anya, swept up in the excitement, let go of her usual reserved demeanor, her face radiant with pride and joy. She fully embraced the moment.

Meanwhile, in the Manchester City locker room, the atmosphere was far less celebratory. Pep Guardiola, the manager, was furious. "How could you let him score those goals?" he thundered, his voice echoing through the room. "That boy, he's a whirlwind! How did you let him get past you so easily?"

One of the players attempted to explain, "He was too good, boss. We couldn't stop him. His shots were from impossible angles; they were completely unexpected."

Pablo Gavi, another player, stepped forward. "He's good, yes," he admitted, "but he's a shooter. I've dealt with strikers like Ronaldo and his father before. We know how to handle them. Don't let him shoot. Pressure him tightly, and disrupt his rhythm. That's our strategy for the second half."

The second half began with renewed intensity. Manchester City applied relentless pressure, but Dimitri, seemingly unfazed, danced around defenders, his movements fluid and effortless. The crowd roared their approval with every touch, every pass. Then, with a deceptive feint that left his opponent sprawling, Dimitri passed the ball to Mohamed Salah, a former Liverpool great and a teammate of Dimitri's father back in their Chelsea days. Salah, who Dimitri's father had always held in high regard, scored, dedicating the goal to Dimitri's father with a respectful nod toward the stands.

The final whistle blew, and pandemonium erupted. Liverpool had won! The players celebrated on the pitch, a joyous tangle of limbs and cheers. Dimitri, despite the exhaustion, was at the center of it all, his teammates showering him with congratulations. Soon, fans began surging toward the players, clamoring for autographs. Dimitri, ever the gracious star, patiently signed autographs, his smile genuine and his eyes shining with the thrill of victory. Anya stood at his side, observing him with a quiet pride.

As the crowd slowly dispersed, Anya found herself reflecting on Dimitri's performance. "He really is something," she thought, a warmth spreading through her. "Despite his childish antics and immaturity, he showed true leadership and maturity when it mattered most. He rallied his team, scored incredible goals under immense pressure, and handled the post-match attention with grace." She couldn't help but smile. "He's still an idiot, of course," she added internally, a self-deprecating chuckle escaping her lips. "But… I kinda like that idiot."
