Chapter 114
114. The Tamer Guy Has A Loud Voice
“Thank you so much earlier!! Arx-san!!”
A few minutes later, the woman, now fully detoxified, bowed her head to me.
I hadn’t gotten a good look earlier due to the urgency, but she seemed to be about my age, with short brown hair and blue eyes.
“My name is Eleanor. I’m an A-rank adventurer. I don’t even know how to thank you, Arx-san…”
“I just happened to have the ingredients. By the way… why are you here, Eleanor?”
Eleanor stopped bowing and started explaining the situation.
“Actually, I was supposed to come here with a friend today! She gets lost easily, so I thought I’d at least wait for her at the site. Then, a higher-ranked monster targeted me…”
As Eleanor explained, looking like she was about to cry, I remembered something important.
“That’s right! We came here to defeat the dragon species!”
We had moved behind a rock to let Eleanor rest and hadn’t been watching the area for a while. I hurriedly looked over the grassland where the dragon species roamed—
“Ha ha ha ha ha!!”
There was someone there who shouldn’t have been. Laughing loudly, the man stroked his beard and patted his bulging belly.
“Is that—Gelda!?”
“Hmm. What is it? Did someone call my name!?”
Astonishingly, Gelda was riding a dragon-like monster.
“You—you’re the rude kid from yesterday! This is my hunting ground! What are you doing here!?”
“No way! I came here for a quest too!”
“Damn, I thought I drove away the other adventurers… now my plan is ruined!”
Gelda clicked his tongue in annoyance and muttered to himself.
He must have driven the other adventurers away to take all the credit for himself.
“…So, why are you riding a monster?”
“Don’t you know anything!? How dare you call yourself a member of the strategy team! I’m a tamer!”
A tamer, huh? It makes sense. Tamers can make contracts with monsters, giving them magic power in exchange for using them.
Considering that, it’s understandable. This outbreak of dragon species is a perfect opportunity to monopolize minions.
“Just get lost already! You’re only here to take credit for killing weak monsters, aren’t you!?”
“No, you just revealed your own plan!”
“Shut up! I’m an S-rank adventurer! It’s only natural for adventurers to follow the orders of those in higher ranks!!”
There are many people like this. Dan and Barry, who I’ve clashed with before, also used their rank as a shield to boss others around.
While it’s frustrating, this system does make it easier to follow orders, so it’s not all bad.
—It’s frustrating, but do I have to obey? Still, I don’t want to back down when getting into the strategy team is at stake.
“Now, hurry up and leave! I still have things to—”
As Gelda swung his arm to shoo us away, the ground shook violently. It wasn’t an earthquake, though. The shaking was sudden and severe, like an avalanche.
“What the hell!?”
The tremors grew stronger. As we braced ourselves and looked around, Eleanor shouted.
“Look over there!”
She pointed to a dragon species monster.
Green skin and yellow eyes. It resembled the one Gelda was riding, with a face like a cross between a lizard and a frog.
And it was huge. Over 5 meters long. The ground shook every time it stomped.
The bipedal dragon was charging at us with incredible speed!
“A basilisk, huh.”
Gelda sighed with relief and looked at the monster indifferently.
“You know it?”
“Yeah, no big deal. It’s bigger than the others, but I can easily tame it. Move, don’t get in my way.”
Gelda stepped forward and aimed his right arm at the basilisk.
“Bow down!! Stop moving and submit to me immediately—”
At that moment, the basilisk swung its winged arm and slashed at Gelda.
“What—”
Gelda’s body flew through the air. Faced with this unexpected event, he could only widen his eyes in shock and freeze.
