Chapter 119 - Stock Manipulation Dragon (3)
Before visiting the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, I changed my face and hair color using Yard’s Thousand Faces and a headband.
Then, to obtain seed money, I headed to the black market, Twilight Trading.
The Ziliville branch of Twilight Trading was enormous, befitting one of the kingdom’s leading major cities.
“Happiness Trading. They openly set up shop, huh? Let’s go in.”
Unlike the previous city’s Twilight Trading branch that operated out of a corner tavern, they were openly running a sizable merchant guild in a 4-story building in a bustling area.
Operating so brazenly in a busy district meant the local magnates and officials were condoning it.
They probably couldn’t operate this largely even in the capital. I wondered who the branch manager was; it was quite impressive.
No, could it be they can’t expand in the capital because of Boutique?
The 1st floor of the store was set up as a general store, receiving ordinary customers, and it was crowded with people, seemingly doing good business.
Following the method written in the booklet, I stood in front of the checkout counter with two slabs of magnolia bark candy to make contact.
The number of magnolia bark candies indicated the number of entering customers.
“Receipt, please.”
At my request, the clerk silently handwrote a receipt on paper.
“Sign, please.”
I scribbled on the customer and store signature lines and added two stars at the end.
After I finished signing, the clerk cut the receipt in half with scissors.
Taking the customer copy of the receipt, I left the store and headed to the back of the building.
Then the back door opened and a suit-clad man gestured for me to enter.
He looked gentleman-like, unlike a group of thugs.
“Is this your first time?”
I nodded at the gatekeeper’s abrupt question.
“I’ve been to other places, but this is my first time here.”
“Are you here to buy? Or to sell?”
“I’m here to sell. Ah, I also have this.”
When I showed my temporary VIP card, the man bowed politely.
“Thank you sincerely for coming. I will guide you right away.”
Precia and I were guided to the 4th floor.
The room we were led to was decorated very luxuriously, unlike the previous city.
It felt like I had come to Boutique rather than Twilight Trading.
“Here are the welcome drinks. Please have a seat and the person in charge will be with you shortly.”
The man who guided us set down drinks and snacks and left.
Not long after, a giant man entered, sat across from us, and took out a business card.
“Thank you for visiting. I am Bopal Orbis, 4th Department Head of Purchasing at the Ziliville branch of Twilight Trading. What have you come to sell?”
I checked the business card and put it in my pocket.
He was quite polite, unlike the blackmailing thug I saw some time ago.
What a boring fellow.
“I’ve come to sell monster corpses and some jewels. There are quite a lot of monsters, is that alright?”
“Yes, monster corpses and jewels, you said. First, I will assist you with the monster byproducts that come in large quantities. Ah, monster byproduct appraisal team, come in.”
After speaking into a communication magic tool, five sturdy men entered before long.
At their appearance, I took out monster corpses one by one from my dimensional storage.
They were the less valuable ones among those hunted in the Bastille Mountains, but I took them out for now.
Of course, I was keeping the mana stones for my own use, nicely stored in dimensional storage.
The monsters of the Bastille Mountains were uniquely strong, but in turn, the quality of their mana stones was good.
As the corpses gradually piled up, the 4th Department Head of Purchasing turned pale and raised his hand.
“Th-that’s enough! We can’t purchase any more!”
“Ah, is that so? I haven’t even taken out half. That’s troublesome.”
It really is troublesome. I gave a lot of money to Gilbert and Jade, so I was short on cash at the moment.
“Then please start appraising these first, and is there someone higher up?”
As I waved my temporary VIP card, the 4th Department Head glanced at the monster corpses and swallowed dryly.
“Are the ones you’ll take out next of similar quality?”
The corpses were fresh and had few injuries.
As befitting a department head of purchasing, he seemed to have a rough estimate.
“Of course. There are even rarer ones.”
“I will speak to the office head, no, the branch manager. Please wait a moment. You guys, start the appraisal.”
The 4th Department Head gave orders to his subordinates, politely bowed, and went out.
Then, before long, he brought back a familiar man.
I chuckled seeing the branch manager.
“I didn’t know someone of your position as branch manager would be guarding the entrance.”
He was the suited man who had guided us at the entrance.
To think the young-looking man was the branch manager of this huge place.
“It’s my little hobby. I don’t always keep watch, only when a customer I’m interested in is expected to visit. Ah, my foolish younger brother in Akra was in your debt.”
Aha, so that thug blackmailer was his younger brother?
Come to think of it, their hair color and eye shape were similar.
Though their impressions were polar opposites, thug and gentleman.
At his greeting, Precia made an unbelieving face and brought her hand to her sword.
She probably thought we had been tailed.
But if that were the case, there’s no way she, with her keen senses, wouldn’t have noticed.
If it were a powerful figure who could evade the senses of my spirits or a transcendent or sage, they would be by the Twilight Queen’s side, not in a branch like this.
I stopped her hand and whistled.
“Does Twilight Trading tail people?”
At my question, he answered composedly.
“How could that be. It’s just that my subordinate under my stupid younger brother sent information that you boarded a passenger ship headed to Ziliville.”
For a branch manager, it probably wasn’t difficult to know which day a passenger ship would arrive.
“But our faces should be different?”
Currently, Precia and I had changed our appearances.
“That’s why I was a bit startled, but customers who change their faces each visit aren’t rare. After all, we are black market dealers. I recognized you thanks to the temporary VIP card.”
Come to think of it, he had said there was a limit to the number of cards issued.
There seemed to be a separate way to identify the issuer.
“I believed a customer who purchased the location of the customer point of contact would surely visit our store, so I waited.”
“Oho, you waited for me. Are you going to take revenge for your brother?”
At my question, Precia brought her hand to her sword again. The branch manager shrugged playfully.
“How could that be. Rather, I am grateful that you left my foolish younger brother unharmed and educated him. Ah, I’m late with introductions. I am Zordic Defelohog, the branch manager of the Ziliville branch.”
I received the business card Zordic handed me and muttered.
“Zordic Defelohog?”
If it’s Zordic, he should be the Twilight Queen’s left arm, one of her closest aides among the closest…
No, that information is also from nearly 5 years in the future at this point.
Since Julian Schultz, the future Boutique head, was still a little kid, it wasn’t strange for the future Twilight Queen’s left arm to be a branch manager in a place like this.
“Do you know me?”
At Zordic’s question, I shook my head brazenly.
“No. I’ll get to know you now.”
“That’s a good thing to say.”
“So, why were you waiting for me?”
At my question, Zordic smiled a business smile and placed a new temporary VIP card on the table.
“I heard rumors about you and thought. Ah! This customer will become a premium customer. My dull younger brother was foolish enough to not recognize your value. I wouldn’t take your value lightly.”
I already have a temporary VIP card.
Yet he presents the same card?
Why is that…
After pondering for about 3 seconds, I couldn’t help but chuckle.
“How heartless. You’re going to steal your brother’s performance?”
At my question, Zordic looked surprised but smiled deeply.
“May I know why you think that way?”
“There’s only one reason to present a card I already have. Isn’t it structured so that if I use this card to purchase or sell, it counts towards the performance of the person who issued the card?”
In other words, Zordic intended to collect his younger brother’s temporary VIP card and give me his own card, thereby taking all the performance of my future use of Twilight Trading.
This is a different perspective from his brother who tried to scam a sucker at a high price with this card.
“As expected, my eyes weren’t wrong. That’s right. So will you accept my card?”
“If I don’t accept this card, is this the end of selling monster corpses?”
He shook his head.
“No. Since you even possess a card, albeit temporary, I will purchase a bit more with my discretion. That card holds that much value.”
“But that’s about it, right?”
“That can’t be helped.”
Seeing him grinning slyly, I placed the card I had on the table and picked up his card.
“How about this?”
“You can take out monster corpses to your heart’s content. Even five times the amount you’ve taken out so far, I will purchase.”
If he could handle it anyway, the purchase would also count towards performance.
Monster corpse byproducts were high-priced goods as demand exceeded supply.
Seeing him take credit for his own gain, he was a born merchant.
No wonder the future Twilight Queen would make him her left arm.
“I really like that. Then I won’t refuse.”
I was going to sell to Twilight Trading and then resell to sizable merchant guilds, but I could sell at a high price without the hassle.
I continued to take out monster corpses, exceeding the five times Zordic mentioned.
“Well, wait a moment. Dear customer?”
“What? Should I stop taking them out? Would it be better for you if I just unload all my stock here, right?”
Zordic understood the meaning of my words and laughed hollowly.
“You’re not easy to deal with. If we can’t handle it all, you’ll dump a large amount on other guilds to lower the market price, right?”
According to the law of supply and demand, when demand is maintained and supply decreases, the price rises.
Conversely, when supply increases, it’s natural for the price to fall.
That’s why companies try to monopolize by any means, and countries try to prevent monopolies.
“You won’t refuse a VIP’s sale, even if temporary, right? Ah, of course, I believe you’ll give me a better price since I’m selling only to one place.”
I smiled and threatened him.
Rejecting a VIP’s transaction would take a big hit on Twilight Trading’s internal credibility assessment.
If it became known that he refused, the starving hyenas (branch managers of other regions) would rush to devour him.
Would he refuse the purchase taking into account a large loss, or would he reduce his profit even if it meant not taking a loss?
For someone skilled at profit and loss calculation, the former isn’t even an option to consider in the first place.
“…I will purchase. You are a scary person, dear customer. All the more reason to get closer to you.”
“I also desire a friendship with you. As a commemoration of becoming friends, I’ll give you valuable information. Keep the monster byproducts you’re purchasing now for at least a year.”
At my information, he furrowed his brow.
“May I know the reason?”
At his question, I smiled like a mischievous kid.
“You may not.”
40% of the kingdom’s monster byproducts come from the Bastille Mountains.
But the Bastille Mountains will freeze over for the next 10 years, so the byproduct prices will skyrocket starting next year.
For me, I could just collect the frozen monster corpses from the frozen Bastille Mountains when I needed them later.
So from my perspective, selling now wasn’t much of a loss.
Of course, I wouldn’t go, but Jade, who had cold immunity, would go.
If he believed my words, he could make a big profit.
Then he could become the Twilight Queen’s left arm faster.
Even if he didn’t believe me, he wouldn’t lose anything. He would just earn less than the usual profit.
He would just have a stomachache later.
“…I will keep that in mind.”
Zordic made a doubtful face but soon nodded.
I don’t know if he truly accepted the information or not, but it was out of my hands now.
In the end, he purchased ten times the amount of monster corpses I initially took out, adding extra on top.
Compared to selling to multiple places, I received much more and even saved time.
He seemed very conflicted, but he had no way of knowing how much luck he had grabbed now.
It would be fun even if he missed it by not knowing.
“Since you’ll be under financial pressure, let’s postpone the jewel sale for later.”
As I tried to get up from my seat, the branch manager skillfully took out a catalog.
“You are in luck, dear customer. We happen to have rare items in stock, how about it?”
What to do? I had already met my initial capital target.
But I was confident I could see bigger profits if I invested surplus funds into stocks as well.
“Are you not interested in magic books? Magic books, not grimoires. These were recently excavated from ruins by explorers. You probably know there aren’t many in stock and demand is overflowing.”
“Ha! You’re good at business.”
Magic books themselves were classified as precious magic tools.
Especially if excavated from ruins, their value was incomparable to grimoires that simply contained magical information.
As expected, items take priority over money.
If I lack money, I can sell jewels too.
I had plenty I skimmed from Boutique under the queen’s name anyway.
This son will gratefully use them! Queen!
Truly a tree that gives without restraint.
