Chapter 696: Chapter 696: Is This the End? No, There's One More.
"Death God Nara!" Barbossa felt stifled. By now, how could he not realize that he had been set up by the Death God? He had been feeling smug earlier, thinking he had successfully thwarted the Death God once again. Now, he could imagine that Death God mocking him in his own divine kingdom.
"If I remember correctly, Deimos doesn't seem to be in this world anymore." The soul fire in Barbossa's skull flickered unsteadily. He was really unwilling to accept that he had been robbed by a dragon again, and it was a golden dragon at that.
"That little one is a bit troublesome. He has the backing of the Titans, but I'm just taking back what's mine without harming his life. In that case, even if I take action, the Titans can't say much." Barbossa thought to himself, glancing at the huge crater beneath his feet. This millennia-old lich immediately made up his mind: no matter what, he had to reclaim his lair.
...
Sinaps, Central Cloud Island, beneath the Wind King's Castle, beside the majestic Wind King Eagle egg.
"Hiss! I've messed up." Muria was writhing in pain. His face was pale, and grayish-black death energy swirled around him, growing denser by the second. "I've been tricked!"
This was Muria's current thought. After swallowing the ten ports of Barbossa's Sea of Undead and emptying his lair, Muria returned to his Sinaps, but before he could even celebrate, he found himself in a crisis.
When a legendary mage creates a demiplane, it constantly reflects the mage's state. If the mage's cultivation improves, the demiplane expands accordingly. Conversely, if the demiplane expands due to external factors, the mage also benefits, with their cultivation increasing as well. The two are mutually beneficial.
However, this mechanism had backfired on Muria. By controlling his demiplane to devour a space ten times its original size from the Sea of Undead, he had caused a pure deathly force to continuously feed back into his body, suppressing his vitality and extinguishing his life force.
If he were a regular human legendary mage, he would have been transformed into an undead by this vast death energy. Fortunately, he was a Titan with immense vitality that allowed him to resist this invasive death energy. But this was not a sustainable situation.
Though Muria's demiplane originated from a legendary mage, once he ascended to legend, the demiplane became an integral part of him. Thus, he couldn't refuse the feedback from the demiplane. It's like eating food and expecting your stomach not to digest it.
Because of this absurd rule, Muria's situation was deteriorating.
"This is all your greed's fault. If you had only swallowed the Blackstone port, you could easily resist the death energy and use it to temper your vitality, making yourself stronger. Now look at the mess you're in." Ilvest frowned as he looked at Muria's condition. Though they usually didn't get along, he didn't kick Muria when he was down.
"It's not my fault; it's that Death God Nara's trap." Muria gritted his teeth, refusing to admit his greed caused this trouble. "Gods plan ten steps ahead. The fact that I'm in this state is all because of Death God Nara's scheming. He gave me the secret method, knowing this would happen. He's screwing me over; I knew he wouldn't let me gain something for nothing."
Muria blamed all his troubles on Death God Nara. And indeed, the Death God had schemed against him. As for why the Death God targeted him, Muria couldn't fathom. He wasn't one to harbor sinister motives.
"Now isn't the time to shirk responsibility. Think about how to solve your problem."
"Balance!" Muria said, his face twisted with suffering. His situation resembled that of a clan elder, the Abyss Lord, who had devoured the Abyss and was subsequently eroded by its power. However, that elder had managed to balance the Abyss' power, eventually refining it to double his strength.
Currently, Muria lacked the strength to balance the death energy fed back by his demiplane. In fact, his demiplane's life and death forces had started to imbalance, causing his current predicament.
"I need new power to merge into my body, creating a new balance to counteract the death energy." Muria looked hopefully at Mikaela. "Mika, lend me a demiplane. Once I balance the death energy, I'll repay you double."
"But..."
"I'll give you one!" Before Mikaela could respond, Ilvest interrupted. "You won't need to repay me anything."
"Hmm?" Muria looked at Ilvest in confusion. Was this guy really so kind? He wasn't even making sarcastic remarks now and was offering a demiplane?
"Mika, could you step outside for a moment? I have some things to discuss with Muria."
Mikaela looked at her fiancé and brother, then nodded slowly. Given Muria's current state, she was a bit worried her brother might take advantage.
"What do you want to tell me?" Muria instinctively moved back a couple of steps. In his current weakened state, he worried Ilvest might try something. "I'll tell Faye Sister if you dare harm me."
"Don't mention her." Ilvest felt a toothache and itchy palms but quickly adjusted his mood, looking solemnly at Muria. "I can give you a medium-sized demiplane. That way, balancing the death energy in you won't be a problem. But you must agree to one condition."
"What condition?" Hearing about a medium-sized demiplane, Muria was immediately tempted. His own demiplane barely reached medium size. As for the condition, it seemed normal. Why would his brother-in-law give him something for nothing?
"Swear to me that you won't take the final step with Mikaela until you are officially married."
"What kind of condition is that?" Muria grumbled, "What do you take me for?"
"You're not human." Ilvest kept a straight face. Having spent so much time with Muria, he knew his shamelessness well. "You're a dragon, a hybrid dragon in heat. So, swear to me."
"Um, I can do everything but the last step, right?" Muria noticed the loophole.
"..." Ilvest remained silent. Some physical contact was fine. He wasn't an unreasonable old fogey.
"Since there's no issue, I can swear now." Seeing Ilvest agree, Muria was straightforward, vaguely understanding what Ilvest wanted, and he was curious.
"No, add one more thing." Ilvest suddenly remembered something.
"Don't push it." Muria's eyes darkened. Though he was weak now, he wouldn't tolerate being pushed around.
"A medium-sized demiplane from the heavens in exchange for a vow you should already uphold. Is that too much?" Ilvest countered.
"Say it." Muria conceded.
"From now on, you can only have Mikaela as your partner, your only spouse!" Ilvest stated solemnly. As her brother, he wouldn't allow his sister to suffer any grievance.
"...Fine!" Muria agreed after a pause. It was indeed a vow he should uphold.
"Swear now!"
"I swear by my true name, I..."
"Wait," Ilvest interrupted. "Add one more thing."
Muria's mouth twitched. "Go on."
"In this life and beyond, you must protect Mikaela with your life. Until you fall, no harm shall come near her."
"That's a given."
"Continue with the vow."
"I swear..."
"Wait, I thought of something else."
"..."
