Chapter 1234: The Titan Scout Team
After the fateful lunch at Joey's restaurant, Arad returned to the castle for the afternoon. It didn't look like an afternoon when the whole sky was covered in thick black clouds and heavy rain.
Alice, Tyal, and Claug went to explore the castle while Arad was soon asked by King Gale's scout team if he wanted to accompany them. They are going into the chasm to locate a Cronos Raptur for Tyal to face.
The mission was relatively safe as they just needed to go into the mountains to set up some detection devices.
Arad agreed and left with them moments later. He was riding on Mc even though all of the scouts asked him to find a BETTER mount. There was no way a moose could survive in the frozen hellscape of the Storm Mountains.
Of course, Arad didn't listen to them, and just covered Mc with a lot of barriers and made sure to keep an eye on their surrounding.
Any monster that looked at his precious mount funny would end up as his dinner tonight.
As they reached the end of the platform, the scout team walked into a massive stone platform that was held down with great metallic chains, ten of them. Arad looked around and inspected the floor. He noticed the several seams on the stone and asked. "This thing moves?"
"Yes. This is an elevator. It'll slowly lower us down to the mountain range where we can start our trip. Just make sure to not fall."
Arad looked at the worried scout with a smug smile. "I can fly."
The scouts scoffed and sighed, "Yeah, you've flown here in the middle of the storm like it was nothing. How did you do that?"
Arad laughed, "Is it that hard? I just flew like any dragon would do."
The scout shook his head, "The wind is too fast and powerful, the lightning is deadly and too fast to dodge, let's not even talk about the heavy rain."
All of the scouts looked at Arad. "We've seen wyrms fall to the ground, unable to fly in the storm." One said with an amazed face as he inspected Arad.
"Then I guess those wyrms never learned to fight in the air. The way you flap your wings must change based on the wind's speed and direction. Also, there is no way around getting a lot of lightning resistance. I'd say a blue dragon had a good chance of braving the storm if they trained well for a few years."
The scouts smiled. Now what Arad did seemed a bit less crazy and more plausible. At first, they thought that he just flew through the storm and didn't even notice it. But now that they heard that it was something dragons can train for, it looked more understandable.
In reality, Arad would've needed to use all of those skills if he were just a very young void dragon, but as an adult now, he just flew through the storm thinking it was the normal weather for this part of the world. He didn't even know that flying through it was this impossible.
Soon, the elevator reached the ground and landed on the soft snow. Arad and the Titans walked out and looked around.
One of the scouts walked forward and pointed at the horizon. "See that jagged peak over there piercing the clouds. We'll have to set a crystal spear there. It won't be an easy trip, but we should make it there and get back before sunset."
Arad looked at the peak. He could reach it in a single void step, but now he has to walk with the titans like a normal dragon.
All of the scouts had magnificent mounts. Some rode on the back of large Yetis, some had terrifying lizards, and some even rode mystical skeleton horses.
Those powerful beasts pushed the snow forward, ripping it apart with their legs and hooves, even if some of them were knee-deep in it. The snow didn't seem to bother them that much.
This was probably the reason why Storm Titans loved their mounts so much. Traversing the thick snow in the middle of a deadly snowstorm would be nearly impossible without a powerful mount.
So, how was Arad's mount faring? How was Mc doing?
The proud Moose walked above the snow unbothered, trotting above everyone else like he owned the mountains. His hooves never sank into the snow, and the storm never slowed him down. When the Titans looked at him suprised, Mc turned the white of his eyes on them and started pissing with a low growl, threatning them.
"Lord Arad, how is a moose surviving this place?" Finally, one of the scouts asked, and he paid the price as Mc kicked a pile of snow on him.
"Mooses usually live in areas filled with snow; they are quite used to it. And Mc is a powerful moose, don't compare it with other weak creatures." He patted Mc's neck, and they kept galloping ahead of the scouts.
It was in fact Arad's barriers that protected Mc from the snow, wind and allowed him to move with ease. But as much as a mount is a useful tool to its rider, the rider is a useful tool to the mount as well. Arad sees his barriers as giving Mc a good saddle or hooves.
After almost an hour, they finally reached the peak. Luckily, no monster attacked them. In reality, many monsters had tried to attack them, but none dared approach the moment Arad glared at them from kilometers away.
His glare conveyed one meaning. "Those who want to be my dinner are welcome to approach." And no monster dared challenge Arad, not even the ancient and powerful ones, not that many of those exist outside the chasm.
As the Titan scouts cleared the snow and plunged the spear into the stone, they looked back at Arad. "We expected a few monsters to attack us, but it seems luck is with us today. Having you around is truly a blessing, our lord. Let's just pray this luck continues."
It was then that Arad decided. Their luck would run out.
