The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (in Marvel)

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: I Don't Like Owing Favors

Their conversation was cut short when Kitty fainted from exhaustion. Saiki Kusuo had no choice but to bring her back to Xavier's School first.

Due to Kitty's prolonged lack of food, resulting in malnutrition and a weakened state, Saiki Kusuo had to suppress his urgent desire to ask for her help and wait a full five days. Only when Charles informed him that Kitty wanted to see him did he go to her.

Although she knew Saiki Kusuo had ulterior motives for saving her, Kitty still thanked her savior.

When she first woke up, Charles had already explained the general situation to her. So, after expressing her gratitude, Kitty said with a look of regret, "I'm sorry, Mr. Saiki. I sympathize with your situation and understand how you must feel, but with my current abilities, traveling to the past or future is very difficult, let alone traveling to another world."

Although he'd known from the moment he saw her that she didn't possess the abilities she would have in six years, hearing Kitty say it herself still brought a momentary pang of disappointment.

Because Saiki Kusuo was her savior, Kitty felt bad seeing his disappointed expression. She scratched her head and offered some comfort, "I heard Professor Charles say that in six years, I'll have that kind of ability. Mr. Saiki, you could wait a few years. I'll work hard and try to send you back within six years."

Wait here for six years? Impossible!

Saiki Kusuo couldn't help but sigh, saying, "You should rest for now." He turned and left.

This approach clearly wasn't going to work. He needed to come up with a new plan.

Kitty felt extremely guilty for not being able to help. She muttered softly, "If only that glowing stone from back then was still around, maybe there would be a way."

Stone? Saiki Kusuo stopped in his tracks. His intuition told him that the stone Kitty mentioned was very likely an Infinity Stone.

He turned back and asked, "Was that stone an Infinity Stone?"

Kitty shook her head, looking bewildered. "I don't know, but it glowed. When I touched it, I felt a surge of power enter my body. That's when I discovered I was a mutant."

Kitty then described the stone she'd seen in vivid detail. Saiki Kusuo was certain it was the Time Stone he was looking for. He asked urgently, "Where is this stone now?"

"I'm sorry," Kitty apologized, and his heart sank. His emotions had been on a relentless rollercoaster between heaven and hell lately. "The stone already had cracks in it when I accidentally found it. After I absorbed the energy inside, it completely broke, and I threw it away, thinking it was just an ordinary stone."

So, the Time Stone didn't exist in this world anymore. Then why couldn't he still use the Time Stone inside his body?

Of course, dwelling on that was pointless now. The important thing was, with the stone gone, would he really have to stay here for six years before he could go back?

At that moment, Charles, who had been standing beside him listening, proposed a hypothesis.

"Perhaps you don't need to wait that long."

His words drew the attention of both Saiki Kusuo and Kitty.

"We can have Kitty send you to the future, and then you can find the Kitty from six years in the future and have her send you back."

It was indeed a good idea.

Saiki Kusuo's eyes lit up, but Kitty shook her head fearfully.

"I'm sorry, Professor, Mr. Saiki, I can't do it. I've never tried to send someone through time for that long. If something goes wrong, Mr. Saiki's life could be in danger."

Charles reached out and gently patted her head, reassuring her, "Don't underestimate yourself, Kitty. We all believe you can do it."

Although they'd only known each other for a little over half a month, Charles genuinely considered Saiki Kusuo a part of Xavier's School. If he were willing to stay, Charles would be happy to take care of him.

But he knew Saiki Kusuo was destined not to belong in this world. Because he understood Saiki's determination, he didn't try to stop him due to the high risks. The only thing he could do was help Saiki Kusuo convince Kitty.

Finally, under the persuasion of Charles and Saiki Kusuo, Kitty agreed.

Because it required a large amount of mental energy, Charles suggested that Kitty rest for another day to fully prepare. Since Saiki Kusuo had already been here for so long, another day wouldn't matter. Saiki Kusuo agreed to Charles's request.

Upon hearing the news of Saiki Kusuo's impending departure, Jean expressed her sadness, but because of the addition of the White Queen, another telepathic companion, her feelings were more of sincere blessing than anything else.

Before leaving, Saiki Kusuo asked Kitty, "When did you get the Time Stone?"

Kitty thought for a moment. "When I was three years old. That would be about 20 years ago."

Saiki Kusuo nodded thoughtfully, then had a private conversation with Charles.

"Thank you for taking care of me all this time, Professor."

Although Saiki Kusuo appeared taciturn, aloof, and difficult to approach, he was essentially a grateful and polite good kid.

Charles nodded, accepting his thanks. Just as he was about to utter some philosophical life lessons befitting his role as a professor, Saiki Kusuo continued, "Although you also caused me a lot of trouble and made me work for free."

Charles: "…"

Kid, you've completely killed the conversation. How am I supposed to respond to that?

In fact, Saiki Kusuo hadn't intended for him to respond. He just wanted to express his intentions and purpose.

"But, undeniably, you saved me, who was alone and helpless in this world, and you helped me find Kitty. I don't like owing people favors, so before I leave, I will repay you."

Charles raised an eyebrow, vaguely guessing what Saiki Kusuo meant by "repay." His heart began to race with excitement.

But he also found it hard to believe that Saiki Kusuo possessed such immense power.

After Saiki Kusuo left, he sat in his office for a long time, until a knock on the door broke his reverie.

He opened the door to find Raven, dressed in the X-Men's distinctive combat uniform. Her expression was serious as she reported, "Professor, there's a situation in the West District. The authorities have contacted us to go there."

Standing beside her was Erik, also wearing the combat uniform. He looked at Charles and frowned, "Why did it take you so long to answer the door? Were you asleep?"

These were his captain and vice-captain. Charles felt that the X-Men's combat uniforms suited his two friends perfectly.

His eyes welled up, and his voice was slightly choked with emotion. "I'm sorry, I didn't sleep well last night."

"Hmph," Erik snorted disdainfully, his usual sharp tongue evident. "It seems that your long life in a wheelchair has dulled your nerves. In that case, Raven, you stay at the school. Charles will come with me."

Raven shrugged indifferently. "I don't mind. It's time this lazy guy got some exercise."

Charles was then taken out of the school by Erik. The sights he saw along the way almost brought tears to his eyes.

This was a world where mutants and humans coexisted peacefully. There was no war, no hatred. This image had played out countless times in his mind.

This was the repayment Saiki Kusuo had spoken of before leaving. He had changed the entire world.

Charles's emotions were a complex mix. He felt as if Saiki Kusuo's effortless alteration of the world made his decades of effort seem like a joke, yet he was also overjoyed that he could realize his lifelong dream in his lifetime.

Erik, pushing his wheelchair, noticed his unusual state and couldn't help but say, "You seem strange today. Focus, old friend. We're on a mission."

"I know. I'll try not to hold you back, Captain."

It had been many years since the two had communicated so peacefully. He marveled at Saiki Kusuo's ability to change the entire Earth, while also complaining inwardly.

"That brat, if he could do all this, he could have at least healed my legs!"

Meanwhile, the subject of his complaint, Saiki Kusuo, landed after a dizzying spell.

The space-time jump had gone without a hitch. Now, he just needed to confirm whether this was six years in the future and find Kitty.

After the feeling of weightlessness subsided, Saiki Kusuo began to survey his surroundings.

The layout resembled the X-Men's training facility, but the widespread devastation and signs of battle made him doubt it.

He was about to remove his transparent gloves to examine the residual memories in the damaged equipment.

"Boom!" A nearby wall exploded. Saiki Kusuo quickly retreated and dodged, but he was still caught in the shockwave.

Then, from the gaping hole, a man covered in ice was thrown out. Iceman seemed to be seriously injured, coughing up a pool of blood on the ground. But he didn't have time to worry about his own condition. Instead, he shouted towards the other side of the hole.

"Professor Charles!"

Hearing that name, Saiki Kusuo instantly teleported to the other side. He saw a man engulfed in flames holding Charles by the neck, lifting him into the air.

Charles struggled painfully in the air. His telepathy had no effect on the fiery man.

Saiki Kusuo realized that his telepathy also had no effect on the man. Then he discovered that this creature wasn't human, but a machine.

He suddenly remembered seeing this machine at Stryker's base.

A Sentinel robot, the masterpiece of the scientist Trask.

Logically, he had destroyed that plan, so this dangerous machine shouldn't exist. And before he left, he had resolved the conflict between humans and mutants. Could this be the butterfly effect caused by his excessive interference in this world?

Or had Kitty brought him to the future of another parallel universe?

For example, a future parallel universe without Saiki Kusuo's intervention.

Regardless of which possibility it was, he didn't have time to ponder it. Charles, held by the neck by the Sentinel, was on the verge of suffocation.

Fortunately, his teleportation ability was off cooldown. Saiki Kusuo reached out and teleported the Sentinel to another location.

The rescued Charles clutched his neck, coughing for a while before he recovered. He looked up at Saiki Kusuo, who had saved him, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

This further confirmed Saiki Kusuo's suspicions, so he had Charles read his memories.

After reading his memories, Charles lowered his guard and looked at Saiki Kusuo with the eyes of someone who had seen their savior.
