Chapter 11: Solaris' Magic History (2)
This led to the death of several denizens of the human race who were eventually wiped out by the Divine Spirits. However, the universe was quiet about it and left humans to their fate.
On seeing the continuous suffering of the human race, Altea, a hybrid of a Divine Spirit and human offered herself up to Fairy Mother Daphney as a sacrifice in one of her temples.
Fairy Mother Daphney then took the soul of Altae and studied how the universe wired her into existence and she received a spark of her inspiration to balance out the Divine Spirits who kept on growing exponentially on a daily basis.
She created her first set of magical humans and called them gods. However, since only her could make the most perfect magical human, any other strongest magical human who was a descendant of the gods could only be titled as demigods.
The gods were the herald of perfection in Fairy Mother Daphney's creations. They saw to the balance and peace of the Solarian Universe. Even the Divine Spirits that were left feared them and accorded them equal respect as the Primal Celestials, the first set of existences in the Solarian Universe.
These gods did great to protect and pass down their magical heritage over the years. This was why even after several generations that eventually birthed Adrian and Jasper, everyone in Solaris respected magicians and warlocks alike, according them respect as rightful protagonists of the world.
After Jasper recounted the history of magic, he had to pause for a while as Adrian had already fallen into a state of enlightenment. He sat cross-legged on the ground, his hands were stretched out and his face appeared solemn. A field of light surrounded him, magical and dreamy at the same time.
From the look of things, he had unlocked his magical halo, a crucial step to becoming a warlock. Jasper beamed with a smile from the side, stroking a nonexistent goatee while his thoughts wandered to other things. For almost an hour, he patiently waited till Adrian had honed in his magical halo before he could continue.
"I can't believe I did it" Adrian chuckled inwardly with sheepish excitement. His eyes shone brightly as he reflected on the meaning of the halo to him.
With the halo as the first step, he could now practice actual magical spells and not just chore chants. He could also learn to fight by himself and never be a burden to anyone else, starting from himself.
"So how did that go?" Jasper rid off his happy face and asked flatly.
"I think it went well" Adrian recovered his awkward self when he remembered that Jasper was still in between lectures.
"Alright, now we continue, the first three things a beginner warlock like you needs to be able to cast advanced spells is — the Mind of Magic, Halo of Spirit and Manifestation of Runes. The first two are more compulsory but the last one is just complementary and can be overlooked.
However, any warlock who overlooks the third requirement will end up being too mediocre, without any useful achievements. They would only be able to cast weaker spells all their life" Jasper explained shortly after.
Adrian found it intriguing why the complementary one that could be overlooked appeared to be the ultimate determinant between the talent of warlocks.
"Why is it such a necessity to manifest runes?" Adrian spilled the question in his heart.
"Runes are for specialisation and to amplify talent of magic within the warlock. There are over a million runes since the start of the magical era in Solaris. Each rune is unique to its founder and with it comes a type of law that's a gift for the warlock in question as acknowledgement of their talents.
It is then left for the warlock to solely cultivate this law or to learn other supplementary laws later on but they'll have a greater advantage over warlocks that didn't manifest a rune earlier " Jasper explained while fiddling with his chin.
"Wow! That must be a good thing, I wish I could manifest mine too. You must have a manifested rune yourself right, how does it look like huhn" Adrian inquired with a pleading gesture
"You... You don't wanna see them" Jasper said with a light scoff and then he turned his head away.
"I do...and there's them? More than one? C'mon, I can't believe you are scared of showing them to me, trashy Magic Lord" Adrian nagged carelessly before his eyes grew wide in realisation.
In this lax moment, he had talked too loudly that he spat out his hidden thoughts, calling Jasper a trashy Magic Lord.
"What did I just hear?" Jasper's gaze turned to Adrian.
His hair has already turned dark red and even his eyes looked like crimson moons, a stark from the beautiful rainbows they once were. The red eyes made his gaze a bit too scorchy and Adrian felt that the sun was looking at him directly.
"I....I" Adrian stuttered in fright as his mind couldn't function normally under the intense intimidation that Jasper was presently exuding.
"Speak! What did you just say?" Jasper barked thunderously, his rage burning even higher. Before Adrian could realise things, Jasper's hand had already become tightly pressed on Adrian's neck.
Adrian was lifted from the ground and he couldn't help but struggle weakly in the air where he dangled like a weak bird. He appeared really desperate to breathe but Jasper had no intention of calming down yet.
"I... I...I." He stammered again before he let out a stifled cough that seemed to follow his last breath. Jasper was gripping too tight and for the first time in his life, he smelled death just a few inches away.
"You know what, that's enough for today's class. I'm giving you an assignment. In the next one week, I want to see your first rune, failure to do so I'll seal your speech for a century" Jasper's eyes cooled the heat in them a little after he dished his judgement.
