The Demon's plaything

Chapter 8: In my kitchen.

~Emily's POV

I stared at the child being burnt.

My eyes was fixed on the fire, burning the girl and my ears clearly heard her cries.

I couldn't stop looking. As much as I wanted to feel pity for the child, I couldn't. Thaross was in pain, and that's all that matters.

It's time for him to have a taste of what he made me go through. He should feel the pain and torment that I felt for seven good years.

I turned to Ava, and I could see how scared she was.

David's eyes were fixed on the flames. His whole body shivered and he was covered in sweat.

"Emily, she is dying! Emily! Get me water! I have to stop the fire! My daughter is dying! Get me water!" David cried.

Ava stood up and she pinned her body to the wall. I could see the confusion in her eyes. "But the demon will be set free," I spoke. My voice was cold and a bit inaudible.

"But my daughter is dying, Emily! Please….I need to save my daughter! My daughter is dying! I shouldn't have used the fire! I should not have made use of the fire! I should have used something else! He tricked me! He fooled me! He tricked me!" David cried.

The girl was still screaming. Her cries were loud and clear.

There was a revelation of pain in every sound that came out of her mouth. I can imagine the pain and horror.

I know what it feels like to get burnt.

I felt it that night when the rain turned into lavar.

I looked at her and through the flames, I could see her skin coming apart. Oily and bloody.

He slowly stepped back, and he suddenly ran into the kitchen.

I can't let him stop the fire.

I ran after him and he filled one of the bowls with water.

I can't let him.

He turned back and when he saw me, he halted.

"Emily, why are you holding a knife. What are you doing? I have to save my daughter!" David yelled.

Yes, I grabbed a knife.

"I can't let you stop the fire. She's as good as dead already. She won't survive even if she fire dies," I said. My voice was shaking and my grip was firm on the knife.

"Get out of my way, Emily!" David yelled and I shook my head.

"I am sorry, David, but I won't," I answered.

David dropped the water in his eyes and his tear filled eyes looked directly at me. "Is this how you're going to pay me back, Emily?" He asked, with his voice trembling.

I shook my head. "I am sorry, David, but I do not have a choice. He has tormented my family for years and…..and life has been very hard for us. We can't even sleep properly. We're moving from one trouble to another. My daughter and I haven't been happy ever since," I said. I just wanted him to understand what I am going through.

He kept looking at me like I'm doing something wrong.

I'm not. Am I?

"You want you and your daughter's happiness at the expense of mine? You just killed my daughter, Emily," David uttered, looking directly into my eyes.

I coughed….the smoke was gently sipping into the kitchen. The whole place smelt like blood and brunt meat.

Someone's daughter.

"You killed my daughter. You and your daughter just killed my child!" David repeated.

I shook my head.

My breath was heavy and my eyes streamed with tears.

I don't want it too but I don't have a choice.

He shouldn't blame me.

"Don't blame my daughter and I!" I screamed, still pointing the knife at him. "You were the one who started the fire, David. You started the fire with your own arms because of that Demon. If anyone should be blamed here, then it should be Thaross, and not my daughter and I!" I screamed.

"You heartless witch!" David yelled.

"Call me whatever you want, David. Call me a witch! Call me a devil! Call me a monster, fine! I am not like this, David. This is not who I used to be. I used to be a very calm mother who did nothing but love her child! It was all going well until she got sick and Tharros came into the picture. Do you think that I want this kind of life too? I don't care about what happens next, David," I said, breathing heavily.

He tried to move closer and I held the knife higher. "Don't come close. I am sorry that your daughter is dead, David, but I have been through things that are worse than the death of a child!" I yelled.

"I'll get back at you with every single thing that I have Emily," David threatened. His eyes reddened and his voice cracked. "I'll make you pay for Sam's death. I promise you. I'll make sure that I take everything that makes you happy away from you! I'll ruin you! I'll ruin your life and take your daughter's life just like you took mine!" He screamed.

I cannot take it anymore.

I don't want to hear it.

His threats….his voice, the noise, I don't!

I couldn't stop myself. I ran towards him and I, and I….and I stabbed him with the knife.

He slowly fell to the ground and I sat over him. Crying and screaming, I kept stabbing him, over and over and over and over again.

His clothes and my face was soon soaked with his blood.

I kept stabbing him and I could see his organs sipping out of the wide stabs, but I didn't stop. His eyes were wide-open. He was looking at me and I stabbed both his eyes too.

"Go to hell!" I screamed, stabbing him and Ava's voice brought me back.

"Mom, you ... .you killed him," Ava said, shaking and I stood up.

It felt like I just came to realize everything.

I just killed a man in my kitchen.
