Chapter 79. Cry, Cry, Cry - You'll Cry Away All Your Good Fortune
“These three books are basic manuals for novice plant cultivators, all at the low Yellow grade. This one teaches the Minor Cloud Rain Technique, which allows you to manipulate clouds and rain to slightly accelerate spirit plant growth. This one is the Earth Control Technique, which can quickly optimize soil conditions for spirit plants. The last is the Insect Banishment Finger, useful for dealing with pest infestations without harming the plants themselves.”
“These techniques have elemental requirements. The Minor Cloud Rain Technique is water-based, Earth Control is earth-based, and Insect Banishment is metal-based. Most plant cultivators specialize in one or two based on their attributes. But since you have all attributes, you can choose freely.”
Elder Ming added a cautionary note: “Little Jin, I know you mean well, but becoming a plant cultivator isn’t easy. Your talent lies in creating techniques – don’t waste time on other pursuits.”
Yun Jin reflected that her talents were numerous, but recognizing Elder Ming’s good intentions, she tactfully replied, “Elder Ming, I’ll just try. If it doesn’t work out, I won’t force it.”
Elder Ming smiled approvingly.
He then produced two pill formulas: “Pill formulas are precious; the Archive doesn’t have many. I’ve brought out two useful for low-level spirit beasts. One is for the Spirit Heart Pill, the other for the Soul Stabilization Pill. The Spirit Heart Pill enhances cultivation for spirit beasts below Foundation Establishment. The Soul Stabilization Pill is less common, used to stabilize the soul of severely frightened spirit beasts. Formulas are expensive, at least 200 points each. Are you sure you want them?”
“I’ll take them!” Yun Jin said without hesitation.
The Spirit Heart Pill was essential for directly boosting cultivation. The Soul Stabilization Pill’s use was unclear for now, but one could never have too many pill formulas.
“The three plant cultivation manuals are cheaper, 100 points each, so 300 total.”
The total cost came to 700 points. Yun Jin handed over her disciple token without regret, letting Elder Ming deduct the points.
After the transaction, Yun Jin wanted to chat more, but Elder Ming smiled, “Go on, study these. Come see this old man again when you have time.”
Yun Jin had to leave. On her way, she had the system scan the manuals and formulas. Being low-level, she easily simplified them to her satisfaction. She looked forward to trying them out in the fields.
Returning to Celestial Sword Peak, she heard Gungun ramming trees. Several spirit trees had been felled. Gu Jinghong stood nearby, looking pale.
Yun Jin frowned, “Why the long face, big man? You’ll cry away all of Celestial Sword Peak’s good fortune!”
Gu Jinghong protested, “The Iron-Eating Beast said to stand by the trees so it could practice aim, but it has no aim! It hits me every few tries!”
“Oh?” Yun Jin looked at Gungun, “Did you come up with this aiming practice yourself?”
As Gungun was about to apologize, Yun Jin gave a thumbs up: “Brilliant!”
Gungun beamed while Gu Jinghong looked despondent.
“Alright,” Yun Jin said disdainfully to Gu Jinghong, “I have a new task for you.”
Gu Jinghong perked up hopefully.
“You’ve investigated me, right? You know about those five seniors testing my sword talent?”
Gu Jinghong nodded reluctantly.
Yun Jin smiled, “I suddenly miss their swordsmanship, but I’m too lazy to watch myself. So you, my servant Gu Jinghong, will watch for me!”
Gu Jinghong was baffled. She wanted to watch others practice but wouldn’t go herself? How could he substitute for that?
“Any objections?” Yun Jin’s eyes turned fierce.
“No objections!” Gu Jinghong quickly replied.
Yun Jin smiled again, “Then get to it. Today, you’ll make each of them practice their sword techniques at least 100 times! Understood?”
Gu Jinghong finally grasped Yun Jin’s intent to torment those five. But as the saying goes, better a friend’s demise than one’s own. So he set off without complaint.
Yun Jin was satisfied. Given Gu Jinghong’s infamous reputation, this task should be no problem. It was about using the right person for the right job.
“Master, I’m bored now that he’s gone,” Gungun whined, hugging Yun Jin’s leg.
“Never mind him. Isn’t the incantation I taught you working well? Your skill level is nearly at three now.”
Gungun nodded eagerly, flexing its arm to show off its muscles.
Yun Jin patted its head, “Keep practicing that incantation. Now I’ll teach you how to improve your Roar skill. It’s another incantation, but you recite it silently in your mind.”
Gungun perked up its ears, eager to learn.
“The incantation is: Hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium, boron, oxygen, fluorine…” Yun Jin recited it fully, then looked at Gungun seriously, “Recite this mentally, then roar forcefully. At least 100 times daily. Got it?”
Gungun asked her to repeat it, and after eight repetitions, it had memorized the incantation.
Soon after Yun Jin left, Gungun’s roars echoed behind her. She nodded approvingly at the spirited little beast.
Meanwhile at Tianxing Sect, a disciple trembled before Gu Jinghong, “Senior Brother Gu… is something wrong?”
Gu Jinghong wordlessly grabbed his collar and dragged him off to find the next target. He collected the second, then the third and fourth in the same manner.
When the fifth saw Gu Jinghong approaching, dragging four others in a line behind him with a cold, murderous expression, he knew he was in for trouble.
