Chapter 52. Which One to Choose
In her extreme panic, Ye Danxia blurted out Yun Jin’s name.
Yun Jin, seemingly oblivious, immediately put on a shocked expression. “Danxia, what are you saying? How could it be me?”
Ye Danxia realized she had misspoken and grew even more flustered.
Gu Jinghong gripped her hand and coldly eyed Yun Jin. “You were standing next to Junior Sister at the time! Did you do something?”
Yun Jin looked perplexed. “What? Can the evil energy carrier manipulate things? Is it that arbitrary?”
Gu Jinghong’s expression flickered slightly. He pursed his lips, his mind racing.
He had definitely tampered with Yun Jin’s clothes.
Why had his Little Junior Sister been injured instead?
Had he mixed up the clothes?
Gu Jinghong was filled with regret.
How could he have made such a basic mistake!
This Yun Jin truly had something sinister about her.
Lin Ya snorted coldly and said, “It was stated earlier that if an evil energy carrier was found, they would be expelled from the sect at best, or have their tendons torn out and bones stripped before being cast into the abyss at worst. Now that it’s Ye Danxia, what do you say, Sect Leader?”
“Master,” Ye Danxia’s face turned ashen. She struggled to her feet and desperately kowtowed to Zhao Wuji.
“Your disciple is innocent. I’m truly not the evil energy carrier. There must be some misunderstanding,” Ye Danxia cried out while kowtowing, creating a pitiful scene.
Zhao Wuji looked somewhat reluctant to act. He was about to speak when Ling Fei coldly interjected, “My spirit beasts can’t have been injured for nothing. Since they’ve identified her, I suggest we detain her first. When the beasts regain consciousness, I’ll communicate with each of them. If no other reason can be found, I propose we err on the side of caution. This Ye Danxia cannot be allowed to remain.”
Ling Fei’s face was still filled with anger.
Zhao Wuji frowned, wanting to argue for Ye Danxia.
Fang Mingyue, the Bright Moon Peak Master, directly said, “I also believe we should be cautious with the evil energy carrier. She’s a Celestial Spirit Root, already growing extremely fast. If she brings calamity in the future, it would be our fault!”
“Indeed,” several other Peak Masters chimed in agreement.
After all, the concept of an evil energy carrier was deeply unsettling.
Zhao Wuji’s expression grew increasingly grim.
He knew in his heart that Ye Danxia certainly wasn’t an evil energy carrier, and this incident was likely Gu Jinghong’s doing.
However, if he pointed this out, Gu Jinghong’s future would be ruined.
If he said nothing, Ye Danxia would be destroyed.
Which disciple should he protect, and which should he abandon?
Zhao Wuji found himself in an internal struggle.
“Actually,” Yun Jin spoke up, “I don’t think Danxia is an evil energy carrier at all. She just has some minor flaws. For instance, being adopted by my Yun family but showing no gratitude. Or encouraging Senior Brother Chen to duel me, then abandoning him afterward. Or hinting to Senior Brother Ruan to falsely accuse me. But these are just small faults, absolutely unrelated to great evil.”
While Yun Jin claimed Ye Danxia wasn’t an evil energy carrier, her subsequent words pointed out each of Ye Danxia’s misdeeds.
Ye Danxia’s face paled further. She could barely continue kowtowing and looked at Yun Jin with grief and anger. “Little Jin! We’re sisters! Why are you doing this to me?”
Yun Jin looked innocent. “I’m not! Danxia, I’m speaking up for you! I mean, even if you did all those things, at most you could be called ungrateful, two-faced, and harboring ill intentions. Calling you an evil energy carrier is absolutely wrong.”
Yun Jin kept piling on the accusations, all while maintaining a righteous expression as if she were truly defending Ye Danxia.
Many people suppressed their laughter.
This Yun Jin was quite interesting.
Ye Danxia was furious. She trembled as she pointed at Yun Jin, then turned and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
“Danxia, Danxia, what’s wrong?” Yun Jin said with concern. “You must take care of yourself. I’m still trying to speak up for you, so you absolutely can’t give up on yourself.”
Ye Danxia coughed up even more blood.
“Sect Leader, since joining the sect, this Ye Danxia has frequently caused trouble. She should indeed be thoroughly investigated,” another Peak Master said.
Previously, when Zhao Wuji had pressured Yun Jin, these Peak Masters hadn’t openly intervened, but they had been watching from the sidelines.
Even if they didn’t dare speak up directly, justice resided in people’s hearts.
Apart from the Sect Leader’s few die-hard supporters, the others all had their own thoughts.
Now that Yun Jin had pointed it out directly, even Ruan Jun’s actions were apparently instigated by Ye Danxia.
The Sect Leader’s subsequent behavior also stemmed from this.
Wasn’t Ye Danxia the root of everything?
This woman! Could she really be an evil energy carrier?
If that were true, they couldn’t let the Sect Leader shield her. This concerned the sect’s rise or fall.
Even if the Sect Leader’s father from the Azure Sky Pavilion came, he wouldn’t agree to keep an evil energy carrier.
Everyone began speaking up.
Zhao Wuji’s expression darkened gradually.
It was the first time Lin Ya had seen Zhao Wuji so at a loss. He couldn’t help but say, “Sect Leader, this is your disciple. You decide how to deal with her! To be safe, I personally suggest we first destroy her cultivation and imprison her.”
“Master!” Ye Danxia cried out miserably.
Though her cultivation wasn’t high yet, if her dantian was damaged while destroying her cultivation, her life would be ruined.
This was clearly Second Senior Brother’s doing, how could she bear the consequences?
Seeing Ye Danxia in this state, Gu Jinghong gritted his teeth slightly.
He had done the deed. If he was willing to speak up, he could naturally clear things up.
But doing so would earn him the crime of framing a fellow disciple.
His life would be ruined.
Gu Jinghong struggled intensely.
He did have some fondness for this soft and cute Junior Sister and was willing to stand up for her to some extent.
But to bet his entire future? Even if he were mad, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Zhao Wuji looked at Ye Danxia, then at Gu Jinghong, and suddenly gritted his teeth. “Jinghong, do you have anything to say about your Junior Sister’s situation?”
Gu Jinghong’s heart sank.
Master’s meaning was clear—he wanted him to confess.
Between his Little Junior Sister and him, Master had chosen to abandon him!
He admitted he was wrong.
But he had acted because his Little Junior Sister had constantly cried to him, constantly hinting for him to take action against Yun Jin.
“Senior Brother,” Ye Danxia turned to look at Gu Jinghong with hope.
She couldn’t afford to play the role of the soft and cute Junior Sister anymore. Her only thought was to escape this accusation!
Gu Jinghong was the only one who could exonerate her.
As for what fate would befall Gu Jinghong, she didn’t know and didn’t want to know.
She hadn’t taken action herself, who could have known Gu Jinghong would do such a thing?
“Jinghong,” Zhao Wuji’s voice grew more authoritative.
Gu Jinghong’s heart plummeted.
He understood.
This time, he was likely to be abandoned.
