The CEO's Hidden Wife

Chapter 6: Business and personal

Lena sat at her desk, the hum of activity in the office barely registering in her mind. She had learned quickly that balancing the professional world with the personal complexities of her marriage to Dominic was no easy task. Their relationship—if it could even be called that—was an odd mix of business meetings and strained silences. They didn't talk about their marriage outside of work, and yet, it felt like everything was changing. Every glance, every word, seemed to carry more weight than it should.

The day had started with the usual rush of emails, phone calls, and meetings, but Lena couldn't shake the feeling that something was different. She had caught a glimpse of Dominic earlier in the hallway, looking more exhausted than usual. There was an intensity in his eyes, a sharpness in his movements, that made her wonder if he was finally starting to crack under the pressure. But then again, maybe it was just her imagination.

Her phone buzzed, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Dominic, requesting a private meeting to go over some strategy proposals. She hesitated for a moment, wondering what it would be this time. More work, more demands, more distance? Still, she had no choice. Her family's deal with his company kept her here, and she couldn't afford to back out now.

As she walked into his office, she couldn't help but feel the familiar tension between them. It was as if the very air was charged with unspoken words and unresolved feelings. Dominic was already seated at his desk, papers neatly stacked before him. His usual cool demeanor was intact, but there was something different in the way he looked at her. He was waiting for her to speak, as though he were testing her resolve.

Lena took a seat across from him, her posture stiff but professional. She hadn't yet figured out how to navigate this space between work and personal life with him. The lines were too blurry, and it felt like every decision she made had the potential to affect more than just her career.

"Let's get started," Dominic said, his voice steady but with an edge that made Lena's heart skip a beat. She nodded, pulling out her notes and preparing to dive into the meeting.

The hours seemed to blur together as they discussed company plans, financial projections, and strategies for expanding their brand. There were moments when Lena could see Dominic's eyes flicker with interest, a rare spark that made her wonder if maybe—just maybe—there was more to him than the cold, ruthless businessman he liked to project. But every time she caught that fleeting glimpse of something human in him, he shut it down just as quickly.

As the meeting wrapped up, Lena felt a strange mix of frustration and curiosity. She couldn't deny that there was something about Dominic that intrigued her—his intelligence, his sharp wit, the way he commanded attention without trying. But there was also a coldness to him that made it difficult to get too close, too personal. He kept her at arm's length, just like he did with everyone else.

"Lena," Dominic said, his voice suddenly softer, almost hesitant. "I need you to handle the presentation for the board meeting next week. Make sure everything is perfect. This is important."

His words weren't surprising, but the way he said them, with just a hint of something unspoken, caught her off guard. She nodded in acknowledgment, trying to ignore the flutter in her chest.

"Of course," she replied, standing up and gathering her things. "I'll make sure everything is ready."

As she walked out of his office, Lena couldn't help but feel like she was walking a fine line between the business world and the personal one she wasn't ready to explore. Every day, the lines blurred a little more, and she wasn't sure how long she could keep pretending that nothing had changed.

She returned to her desk, her mind spinning with the meeting and the strange moment of connection she had felt with Dominic. Despite everything, despite the silence, despite the walls he had built around himself, she knew that something was shifting. She just wasn't sure if it was something she could handle—or if it was something she even wanted.

The day wore on, and Lena found herself trapped in her thoughts more than she would have liked. She couldn't escape the way Dominic's presence had started to affect her, or the way her feelings toward him were growing more complicated with each passing day.

At that moment, Lena realized something she hadn't fully grasped until now: she was no longer just working for her family's deal. She was becoming part of something far more complex—something personal. And she wasn't sure whether she was ready for it.
