the beasts over the crown

Chapter 8: Part 8

"She sent a sealed secret message with one of the captains of the merchant ships docked at the city port weeks ago to her younger brother Halil, asking for his help." said the witch.

"That drunkard! By the sun, I can almost smell the scent of his winey breath from here... Have we come to rely on drunks now? Perhaps they are the only ones who will listen to the mad ramblings of fools like you both ... And what brave men does he even have to provide us with?"

said the king mockingly, casting a dismissive glance at the witch, then muttered with a suppressed laugh :"A witch and a drunk at the forefront of the kingdom's army, what next, a court fool on the throne?"

"The response arrived yesterday, my king, with two fierce guards."

"As I expected, even if the drunkard drank all the barrels of wine in the kingdom of Manfee, he wouldn't find the courage to move an inch without consulting his brother osman - the king of manfee - first, even if it was to aid his own sister ". Said the king with sarcasm and arrogance.

"He is at the door, Your Majesty."

"Who is at the door? A commander of the army! Has he really sent an army!" shouted the king eagerly, then turned his eyes towards the door, quickly calling his guard James without leaving a chance for the witch to respond.

"Bring the man in and go summon your queen."

"They are here." said the guard as he allowed them to enter.

The queen was three years younger than the king, and she had a beautiful face with harsh features, and her black hair was long enough to cover her entire backside, while the man who walked behind her showed no signs of a warrior.

As soon as the two entered the room, the king felt a cold shiver down his back as if he had seen a ghost.

"What is he doing here ?" he shouted angrily at the queen.

"Halil himself sent him. In his letter , he stated that he could not send an experienced and reputable treasure hunter, as they are a well-known few, and as you know, my older brother Osman guards the hunters as he guards his own children." Responded the queen nervously

"Are you still talking about the nonsense of hunters and magic jars?"said the king, frustrated.

"As you can see, my dear brother Osman, the noble one full of honor, and the king of numerous armies and overwhelming force, did not lift a finger to support us in our war". Then she looked confidently at the king to add :

"But my brother is moved by duty, and the first duty of all the kings of Manfee is to keep these jars sealed across all continents. I thought to myself, what harm is there in exploiting this gap for our advantage? If we can open the jar, we will fill the treasury with its treasures".

The king looked at her skeptically, and she assured him: "Do you not remember the wonders you saw with your own eyes in Manfee and the screams of the demons within the city walls? All of that was just a small portion of a world where I lived for years, where I saw the most astonishing things and heard the whispers of men discussing the power of these jars. And even if it were just a trick that the tongues spread , rest assured that as soon as my brother osman receives news of our act, he will prepare the army against his will, and it won't be long before his ships anchor on our shores, humbled by our cunning and tricks, finding no new excuse to refuse providing us with men and supplies ".
