The Accidental Savior

Chapter 3: Rules, Loopholes, and Chaos

Nick stood in the glowing expanse of the Nexus Chamber, arms crossed and frustration bubbling under the surface. The swirling doors around him seemed to whisper ominously, their vibrant lights marred by shadowy tendrils that shifted and coiled in unsettling patterns.

"Alright," Nick said, narrowing his eyes at the nearest door, its fiery frame pulsing faintly. "So, let me get this straight. I have to jump into these worlds, play babysitter to their protagonists, make sure their stories stay on track, and stop some vague, evil chaos... thing?"

The Good God, radiating a calm golden light, nodded. "Precisely."

"And if I don't?"

"Then the multiverse collapses, Earth included."

Nick let out a sharp laugh. "Right. No big deal. Just every world ever falling apart because I didn't babysit properly. Cool, cool."

The Good God tilted their form slightly, a gesture Nick had come to interpret as a mix of patience and pity. "You will have assistance. Guidance. And, most importantly—"

The Good God paused, their light flickering slightly, as though reconsidering their words.

Nick raised an eyebrow. "Most importantly... what?"

"You will be aided by the Wives System."

Nick blinked. "The what system?"

"The Wives System," the Good God repeated evenly.

Nick stared at them, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Okay, hold on. Wives? As in... plural? Like, more than one? What kind of anime harem nonsense is this?"

The Good God remained serene. "The Wives System is an essential component of your journey. It is designed to form deep, meaningful bonds with key allies across the multiverse. These connections will strengthen you emotionally, mentally, and strategically."

Nick pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a groan. "You couldn't have called it something less... weird? Like, I don't know, the 'Allies Program' or the 'Friendship Initiative'? Why 'Wives'?"

The Good God's glow brightened slightly, almost as if they were amused. "The name is symbolic. It signifies trust, commitment, and shared growth."

"Yeah, sure," Nick said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Nothing says 'commitment' like collecting wives across the multiverse. That won't make me look like a total creep."

The Good God ignored his sarcasm. "The system will remain dormant until you reach an appropriate age to activate it. Until then, it will monitor your progress and select abilities to aid you on your journey."

Nick crossed his arms. "Great. So, I'm basically stuck with an invisible harem-building app that also doubles as a life coach. Fantastic."

As if on cue, a glowing panel appeared before Nick, its text shimmering faintly.

Wives System Initialization Complete. Awaiting Activation.

Current Age: 7

Abilities Granted: 1 (Musical Talent)

Next Ability Selection: 1 Year

Nick read the panel, then turned back to the Good God with an incredulous look. "Seriously? Musical talent? That's what the system thinks I need? Not, I don't know, sword skills or super strength?"

The Good God's light pulsed gently. "Music transcends barriers. It is a tool of connection."

Nick threw up his hands. "Oh, yeah, because serenading chaos monsters with a harp is definitely going to save the multiverse. Maybe I can start a boy band while I'm at it."

The Good God continued as though Nick hadn't spoken. "The Wives System is more than a tool for combat. It fosters unity, allowing you to form bonds that will be critical to restoring balance across the worlds. Those you connect with will empower you, and you, in turn, will empower them."

Nick shook his head, muttering under his breath. "This just keeps getting better and better."

"Do not underestimate the power of connection, Nick Romero," the Good God said. "The path ahead is perilous, and you will need all the strength—emotional and otherwise—that these bonds can provide."

Nick sighed, glancing at the swirling doors once more. "Fine. I'll play along. But if this system starts assigning me love poems and candlelit dinners, we're going to have a serious talk."

The Good God tilted their head, and for a fleeting moment, Nick swore they were smiling.
