Chapter 46: Remnants of Shibuya
The streets of Shibuya stretched out in desolate silence, littered with the remnants of a city brought to its knees. Buildings were cracked and scorched, debris scattered across the pavement, and the air was heavy with the faint metallic tang of blood and cursed energy. Furōkawa walked alongside Yuji and Choso, his wings tucked neatly behind him, appearing like a dark, flowing cloak. He glanced around at the ruins, his expression grim.
"Alright," Furō said, breaking the silence. "I need the full rundown. What exactly happened here?"
Yuji looked up at him, his face pale and drawn from the weight of the events. He hesitated for a moment before speaking, his voice quiet. "It started with the Disaster Curses—Mahito, and others. They orchestrated Gojo-sensei's sealing using something called the Prison Realm."
Furō's brow furrowed deeply. "The Prison Realm…? That's how they got him?" He shook his head, his voice sharp. "How did they manage to get close enough to seal him?"
Yuji's gaze dropped to the ground, his tone laced with guilt. "They ambushed him using the citizens as collateral and transfigured humans. Mahito made a distraction, and Geto used the Prison Realm to trap him. Gojo-sensei couldn't get out."
Furō exhaled slowly, his hands clenching into fists. "That's bad enough, but this—" he gestured to the ruined streets around them, his voice growing more urgent. "All of this destruction… it's unreal."
Yuji hesitated, then continued, his voice growing shakier. "After Gojo was sealed, and I lost against Choso, Sukuna took control of my body. He—he destroyed most of Shibuya. Killed a lot of the people here." His voice cracked slightly, but he pressed on. "I wasn't strong enough to stop it."
Choso glanced at Yuji with a hint of guilt in his eyes but remained silent.
Furō's steps slowed, his mind reeling as he took in the sheer scale of the devastation. "Sukuna… did all of this?" he muttered. "How many lives were lost?"
Yuji didn't answer directly, his head hanging low.
Furō sighed heavily, shifting the conversation. "What about the others? Shoko? Nanami? Ichiji?"
Yuji froze in his tracks, his face tightening. "Nanamin…" he said quietly, his voice breaking slightly. "Nanamin is dead. He was killed right in front of me."
Furōkawa stopped walking, his heart sinking into his chest. His mind flashed back to his last conversation with Nanami. He could still hear his own words, spoken with eager determination:
"Next time we see each other, I'll be a special grade sorcerer with all types of cool things to show you!"
The memory felt like a punch to the gut. Furō shook his head, forcing himself to refocus. "I see…" he said quietly. "Ichiji? Shoko?"
Yuji nodded. "Ichiji's in critical condition. Shoko's been taking care of the injured sorcerers as best she can."
Furō felt a wave of relief that Shoko was still alive, though the thought of Ichiji struggling for his life weighed on him. Before he could ask more, Yuji continued.
"Maki, Inumaki, Megumi…" Yuji began listing the others, but his voice caught on the last name. He paused before whispering, "…Nobara…"
Furō immediately held up a hand, his voice soft but firm. "We don't have to talk about it right now. I'm sorry."
Yuji gave a weak, reluctant smile. "It's fine. This comes with being a jujutsu sorcerer."
Choso suddenly straightened, his senses sharpening as he turned toward a nearby tunnel. "Heads up," he said tersely. "Two rather strong cursed spirits are near."
Before Furō or Yuji could respond, two enormous cursed spirits leapt from the shadows of the tunnel, their grotesque forms charging straight at them with relentless aggression. The ground beneath them cracked from the sheer weight of the spirits as they landed.
Choso clapped his hands together, activating his Blood Manipulation Technique: Piercing Blood. A beam of blood-red cursed energy shot forward, striking one of the cursed spirits directly in the chest, halting its momentum.
"Go!" Choso shouted.
Furō and Yuji sprang into action. Furōkawa shifted Onamazu into its axe form, Oryx, the blade glowing with cursed energy as he dashed toward the spirit on the left. With a powerful swing, he cleaved the creature cleanly in half, its body disintegrating into dust before it could even retaliate.
On the right, Yuji dodged a wild swing from the second spirit and countered with a devastating punch, the sheer force of his strike amplified by the damage Choso's Piercing Blood had already inflicted. The cursed spirit crumbled under Yuji's strength, its body collapsing into ash.
As the dust settled, Furō turned to Yuji, a faint grin tugging at his lips. "That was one hell of a punch."
Yuji rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself."
Choso nodded in approval, though his gaze lingered on Furō. "You're even more impressive than I expected. No wonder the Valkyries fell to you."
As they regrouped, Furōkawa glanced at Yuji and Choso. "So, why don't we head back to the school? Wouldn't we have a better chance of getting Gojo back if everyone worked together?"
Yuji's expression darkened, and he shook his head. "I can't go back."
Furō raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"
Choso stepped in, his voice calm but firm. "Yuji's execution has been resumed. He's on the run, and returning to the school would only make him an easy target."
Yuji nodded, his expression heavy. "Sukuna's been planning something with Megumi, and… I've killed too many people to go back. Even if I wanted to, I can't."
Furōkawa took a deep breath, processing the weight of Yuji's words. His gaze softened, and he placed a reassuring hand on Yuji's shoulder. "I understand. Then I'll stay with you and Choso until things are resolved. No one should have to face this alone."
Yuji looked up at him, his eyes wide with gratitude. "Thanks, Furō."
Choso gave a small nod of approval, the tension easing slightly as they prepared to move forward.
