Surviving on a Deserted Island with Yukinoshita Yukino

Chapter 66: Carrot

Chapter 66 – Carrot

"Amazing, Jun-nii!"

"Wow!" Nanako said, amazed by Kato Jun's archery skills.

In the Dragon Spine Tribe, hunters rarely shot snow rabbits with arrows.

"And Jun-nii shot two at once... right in their ears!"

"When we get home, we'll roast one and boil one,"

Jun said this as he closed his backpack. Then he took Nanako's small hand again and kept walking.

"Carrots! Oh right, carrots!"

Nanako suddenly shouted, excitedly, as if she had remembered something important.

Jun looked confused.

"Carrots? There are no carrots here?"

They were surrounded by endless white.

"Here!"

Nanako pulled Jun's big hand and dragged him to where the rabbits had been digging in the snow.

"You're right..."

Jun was surprised to see the tip of a red carrot sticking out from under the snow.

"This island is strange..."

He said something under his breath, then used a wooden stick to loosen the soil and pull out the carrot.

He smelled its smell.

"This smell... It really is a carrot."

Even though he hadn't seen a single carrot during the fall.

Why are they appearing now in the snowy season?

"How did you know there were carrots here?"

Jun looked at Nanako, feeling curious.

"From my experience in the tribe..."

It took a while for Nanako, who didn't know many words, to explain.

"I see..."

Jun found two more big carrots near the tree roots where the rabbits had been playing.

He tried his luck at other trees, but nothing.

"So, in places where rabbits live, there are carrots, right?"

"Yes... The people in the tribe also say that."

Nanako had to hold the two big carrots tightly because the backpack was already full with two fat rabbits.

"Your tribe is far from here, right?"

Jun felt like he had asked this before.

"Yes... Beyond those mountains."

Nanako pointed to the mountain range in the distance.

"Dragon Spine Mountain Tribe..."

| Notice: It looks like Dragon Spine Mountain Tribe is better than Dragonback Mountain Tribe, so I'll change it to Dragon Spine Tribe |

This showed that the savage tribes on the island weren't just two.

The cannibal tribe was completely destroyed.

"By the way, are all the people in your tribe as fair-skinned as you?"

He touched Nanako's cheek, which still had some snow on it, and asked her a question.

Every time he looked at the girl's skin, Kato always thought it was very fair.

"No... I'm the only one... The others... big... and dark..."

Nanako's ideas about what is beautiful and what is not had started to change because of Yukino and Utaha.

But to change completely, it seemed like it would still take a long time.

"I see..."

Jun wasn't sure why, but he felt a bit disappointed.

So, can we really call this girl a savage? It still felt like there could be different opinions on it.

As she was lost in thought, Nanako's small tongue licked her palm again.

This time, Jun wasn't wearing gloves.

The sudden touch of that warm tongue made him pull his hand away.

"This habit of licking... Yukino and the others will help fix it later!"

Jun was also confused.

This little girl only liked licking him. Not Yukino or the others.

Even though the Affinity level was already at 92.

Even though they hadn't talked much recently.

But why did her feelings keep rising?

That's strange.

Jun shook his head slightly and put his gloves back on, then continued walking.

"Step on my footprints. If you fall, call me right away. It's very dangerous to get separated in the snow.

Even though there didn't seem to be any predators around, the thick snow alone was already dangerous enough.

"Okay!"

Nanako hugged the carrots tightly, following Jun's footprints from behind.

Their footsteps made one long line in the snow.

Inside the treehouse, the fire in the stove still burned with glowing embers.

The girls had finished the meat soup, and their bodies were starting to warm up.

Outside, the white snow still covered everything.

The girls were bored. They were looking at the beautiful scenery from the window. They were lying on the floor.

"We need entertainment!"

Yui said this as she cut words into a thin piece of wood using a sharp stone.

Not long after, two major characters for "entertainment" were written there.

"Yuigahama-san, that board is for teaching Nanako how to read. Don't just use it."

Yukino scolded and took the board back from Yui's hands.

"Exactly... So bored..."

Utaha's fingers moved randomly on the round table.

Even though she was an otaku, she still needed the internet and a computer.

"I wonder when senpai will return..."

Ginko lay on the round table.

"I hope Onii-chan comes back soon..."

Megumi looked out the window.

The snow had stopped falling, but Jun and Nanako's footprints were no longer visible.

She knew her brother should be fine, but she was still worried.

This sudden snowfall was indeed beautiful, but it also made her afraid. She felt like she might be trapped alone in the middle of a vast ocean.

"Who wants some roasted black sweet potatoes?"

Yukino took out a small bag of sweet potatoes from the storage box.

"Black sweet potatoes? Me!"

Yui got excited about food right away.

"Me too..."

Ginko kept drawing a shogi chessboard on the table with her finger.

"Okay."

Yukino counted seven sweet potatoes and carefully put them in the stove.

I hope that by the time the black sweet potatoes are ready, Jun and Nanako will be back.

— — —

"This should be... here."

Jun finally found the outline of the storage room door under the snow.

"Good thing its shape is still visible. If we wait until tomorrow, it might not be visible at all..."

He put the backpack and bow down on the ground. Then he started sweeping the snow off the storage room door with a wooden stick.

Hua la la—

The snow cleared away, and finally the storage room door appeared.

"Good."

The door was covered by a thin layer of ice. Jun had to use a lot of force to open it.

Clack!

He found an oil lantern behind the door.

After lighting it with the flint he brought, he warmed his increasingly frozen fingers, then went inside.

"Nanako, wait outside. Don't go anywhere."

"Okay!"

Meanwhile, Nanako was happily playing with the two snow rabbits in her backpack and the carrots she hugged.
