Chapter 493: Chapter 492: The Disappearance of the Village Hidden in the Clouds (Middle)
At one point, Daniel thought the so-called Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan could be achieved by one person's Mangekyo Sharingan going blind, followed by transplanting a sibling's Mangekyo Sharingan to create two Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan pairs. However, he learned that for an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan to form, one pair of eyes had to absorb the other's powers entirely.
"It's time to move on to the Land of Rivers." As the Five Great Villages returned to devise their next steps, and the entire ninja world marveled at the strength of the Akatsuki Nation, the Akatsuki began their next move—an operation targeting the Land of Rivers.
The Land of Rivers, situated between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind, also served as a buffer zone between Konoha and the Sand Village. With the Five Great Villages defeated, there was no longer a need to worry about repercussions.
The Land of Rivers was one of the largest nations outside the Five Great Nations and was once home to the River Village, comparable in strength to the Grass and Rain Villages. However, located between Konoha and the Sand Village, it was destroyed by the Sand Village, primarily due to its abundant gold mines—a valuable resource for the resource-scarce Sand Village.
Once wealthy and full of prospectors, the Land of Rivers had fallen into poverty as the gold mines dried up. What remained was a population plagued by poverty, resentful of the past prosperity that had now vanished—a story seen throughout various worlds, from Fullmetal Alchemist's Amestris to Marvel's world.
"Besides the Land of Rivers, we should start with the Village Hidden by a Waterfall and parts of the Land of Fire," Daniel declared. Reviewing the map, he and Nagato, along with other Akatsuki members, decided to conquer the Land of Fire next.
Taking the Land of Wind required crossing a vast desert to reach its cities, and the Land of Earth presented the challenge of crossing high mountain ranges and valleys. By comparison, the Land of Fire's mostly flat terrain was far easier to conquer. Once they had secured the Land of Fire, they could use the Land of Earth's earth-style users to clear a path through the desert and claim the Land of Wind. With the Land of Fire, Land of Earth, and Land of Wind under control, they could eventually turn to the more distant Lands of Lightning and Water.
"Take Kisame, Raiga, and Suigetsu with you to the Land of Rivers. Kakuzu, Hidan, and Deidara, you'll handle the Land of Fire," Daniel directed. This time, he assigned the right team for the task.
The Land of Rivers shared a similar environment with the Rain Village, making it ideal for water-style ninjas like Kisame and his group. The Seven Swordsmen of the Mist had recently added Suigetsu as a member, with him now wielding the authentic Hiramekarei, after discarding the replica of the Decapitating Carving Knife. Although the Sixth Mizukage, who wielded Hiramekarei in the original series, had died on the battlefield, Suigetsu was satisfied with his new weapon.
Assigning Kakuzu to lead the assault on the Land of Fire was ideal due to his pragmatic approach to warfare—he would be relentless in his efforts as long as he was well-compensated.
The Land of Rivers would not interest him, given its challenging terrain and reliance on boats, much like Venice, Italy. The Land of Fire, on the other hand, would allow Kakuzu to lay the groundwork for Akatsuki Nation's business, which would energize him.
As for the Village Hidden by a Waterfall, Daniel planned to handle it personally. Though once powerful with its Seven-Tails Jinchuriki and elite jonin like Kakuzu, the village had now fallen to the level of a small village, inferior even to the Grass Village. Its survival depended on the Seven-Tails, its natural defenses, and the delicate balance maintained by the Five Great Nations.
Unfortunately, those advantages had all but vanished, and its last stronghold, the Seven-Tails Jinchuriki, was now a target.
"Almost forgot about the Hero Water." Although the Waterfall Village was weak, Daniel had done some preparation, and intelligence from Kakuzu reminded him of a hidden treasure within the village—a rare item that could greatly enhance chakra reserves.
The Hero Water allowed a tenfold increase in chakra but at the cost of a shortened lifespan. With this water, even a regular jonin could reach Kage-level chakra levels, giving them the potential to overwhelm other ninja of similar rank. Although this water had deadly side effects, it was one of the few items capable of singlehandedly amplifying chakra output to such a level.
This lethal cost was the reason the Five Great Villages had never sought to acquire it. For them, the lives of their elite ninja outweighed the value of Hero Water. If it weren't for the deadly price of drinking it, the Waterfall Village would have long been annexed.
"What an interesting place—a weakened version of the Water Curtain Cave." Daniel arrived at the village's entrance alone, gazing at the massive waterfall entrance. Remembering Kakuzu's instructions on how to infiltrate the Waterfall Village, Daniel smiled to himself.
The only way to enter the village was to dive beneath the waterfall. Given the difficulty of access, villagers rarely left the area, with most of them living their entire lives within its limited confines.
"Who goes there?" Daniel had just stepped onto the water's surface in front of the waterfall when two Waterfall Village ninjas emerged from behind it.
"Just take a rest." Before they could react, Daniel appeared beside them and immobilized them both.
"Times have changed; you no longer need to stay hidden inside. I'll make an easier path for you. Room!" Daniel activated his Op-Op Fruit ability, sweeping his left hand to slice away part of the mountain beside the waterfall, creating a massive, twenty-meter gap through which he could see the entire village.
Inside the Waterfall Village, the chief, Shibuki, was addressing Fuu, the Seven-Tails Jinchuriki, along with two elders and four jonin. He wore a grim expression.
With only four remaining jonin, all of whom were weaker than the elites of the Five Great Villages, the village's military power had severely declined due to an internal conflict that had decimated their ranks. The village's only remaining hope was Fuu, but due to the stigma associated with jinchuriki, she rarely stayed in the village.
"What's your plan?" asked Fuu, usually fearless, but even she couldn't ignore the implications of the Five Great Villages' defeat.
"I don't know," Shibuki replied, shaking his head. Shibuki wasn't suited to leadership, and his position as chief was primarily due to his father's legacy.
"We have no choice but to surrender." Shibuki hesitated, but he knew that as a small village, they had no reason to resist stubbornly.
One of the elders was about to speak when they heard an uproar outside, prompting them to step out of the room.
"What's going on?" Shibuki called out, only to be left speechless as he and the others stared at a massive, twenty-meter gap in the mountain wall where the waterfall once hid them, now providing a clear view of the outside.
"Other than the Divine Tree, this must be the tallest tree in the ninja world," Daniel remarked as he stood by the opening, admiring the towering hundred-meter tree shading nearly the entire village.
"Akatsuki! What do you want here?" Shibuki and the others soon appeared in front of him, and upon recognizing the Akatsuki headband, their faces paled.
"What do you think I want?" Daniel looked at Shibuki and continued, "You're familiar with the Akatsuki Nation's ideology, aren't you? Surrender, and I'll spare your lives."
"Never! Water Style: Water Bullet Jutsu!" Before Shibuki could respond, two of the jonin at his side began weaving hand signs, unleashing fast-moving water bullets the size of fists toward Daniel.
"You want to fight here? We'd destroy the entire place," Daniel commented, easily deflecting the water bullets before glancing up at Fuu, who had taken flight with three pairs of wings on her back.
"I'll accept your surrender only if you defeat me. We'll fight outside." With that, Fuu flapped her wings and flew toward the opening, no longer needing to escape through the lake thanks to Daniel's newly created path.
"If that's what you want, there's no need to go outside." Daniel clapped his hands together, then swung his right hand, summoning a wooden dragon from his arm. The dragon grew to nearly five meters in length as it soared toward Fuu.
In response, Fuu quickly flew higher to distance herself from the dragon and began weaving hand signs. Soon, her chakra exploded, her body enveloped in red chakra with seven large chakra tails.
"Foolish." Seeing Fuu in her fully transformed Tailed Beast Mode, Daniel couldn't help but smirk. The wooden dragon grew to ten meters in length. When Fuu swung her chakra-clad fist to strike it, the dragon's head dodged her punch and coiled around her body, constricting her.
Attempting to break free with the power of the Tailed Beast, Fuu realized her chakra was rapidly draining. Helpless, she reverted to her original form, unconscious from the sudden loss of chakra.
"Challenging the Wooden Dragon head-on? Not even the Nine-Tails would dare that." Satisfied, Daniel directed the dragon to bring
the unconscious Fuu over to him—he now had the Seven-Tails in his possession.
"If the Waterfall Village surrenders, will you release Fuu?" Shibuki called out urgently upon seeing Fuu captured.
"Don't worry; I won't take her life," Daniel replied. He didn't plan to kill every jinchuriki. While killing them would be easier, it wasn't necessary. Unlike stubborn jinchuriki like Killer B, Yugito Nii, Roshi, and Han, Fuu was much easier to handle due to the village's weakness.
"Let's discuss the future of the Waterfall Village," Daniel proposed. Learning about the Hero Water had given him the idea to relocate the entire village population.
To improve Akatsuki Nation's governance, population transfers were inevitable. Only Amegakure would remain as it was, while other villages would be dispersed.
For instance, the inhabitants of the Bird Country and the Grass Village were already in the process of relocation. Fortunately, the vast, sparsely populated ninja world made these arrangements feasible.
