Chapter 4: Chapter 3: Trials
Three months passed quickly.
Inside Shen's house, in a small wooden bed, there's Red laying down still unconscious. After knowing that Red will wake up soon, Shen prepared a meal, for he knows that Red is surely hungry.
Red's body is in the state of enlightenment. His body is adapting to his gained power as it absorbs the knowledge he discovered. Although he has the capacity to understand all of it, his body is still adapting to it after it was purified and refined. The mind and body must be balanced in order for harmonization to occur.
As Shen chops some meat, without warning, a massive force explodes from Red's room. A continuous shockwave that even Shen wasn't able to predict. It destroyed the house into pieces. He immediately circulated his energy as he created a barrier that surrounded the house.
Immediately, a transparent tangerine barrier enveloped the house. A spell that blocks any prying eyes from seeing what happened and cuts off their connection to the real world.
They are now in the domain of Shen, no one can feel their energy outside or trace the location of Red's energy. Slowly, the debris and pieces of the house began to come back together. As if Shen is rewinding what happened, bringing everything to what it was.
One of the powers of casting a domain is that it is the caster's place. Everything will happen as long as the caster wants it.
"That was a close call," Shen whispered, examining Red's condition.
After retrieving Red's body, three months ago, Shen jumped to the conclusion that Red already refined the energy he gained, but Shen was mistaken. It was hidden all over his meridians where it is broken and refined at a slow pace. The body knows the condition of itself, it gradually refined the enormous energy where the body can handle it. Now, it resulted to simultaneous breakthroughs.
After handling the matter, Red woke up. Slowly opening his eyes, he looked to his grandfather and stretched his body.
"Grandpa, what happened? I really had a weird dream," Red said while rubbing his eyes.
"I'll tell you later. You better eat, haha," Shen said after Red's stomach growled.
They both laughed.
On the other hand, the shockwave was felt in the village. It brought fear and uneasiness to everyone who knows nothing.
"What happened?!" a middle-aged man shouted in panic.
"I think a beast just broke through," one of the old men replied due to fear.
"It's impossible; no kind of beast can be found on the outskirts of the village!"
The villagers got out from their homes and gathered in the square, where everyone is panicking. Jumping to conclusions based only on their assumptions. For decades, it's their first time to encounter such events.
"Someone did broke through." the old man said, who had just arrived at the village. Beside him was a beautiful girl that caught the attention of everyone.
"Who are they?"
"I think they're masters."
Everyone began to shift their attention to the newcomers dressed elegantly.
"Fools! Pay your respect! Chief Village Wen Dew pays his respect to the 5th Elder of Divine Owl Academy, Metchzel Pyro," greeted by the fatty man as he bowed with respect.
He is the Village Chief of Motowo in his mid-50s. Dressed as common folk. A good leader, where he earned the trust and loyalty of the people through giving alms and empathetic character.
"What?! Pyro?"
"Pyro Family? One of the foundations of our Orleon Country?"
"Too soon?"
"They're already here? Who's with him?"
"Yeah, she's pretty."
"So this means the trial will begin. Where's my son?!"
The crowd's cacophony made Village Chief Wen Dew facepalm. He sighed deeply, then cleared his throat to catch the attention of the citizens.
"We pay our respect to the Fifth Elder." They greeted harmoniously after getting what the Village Chief meant.
"It's alright. I guess you already know why we are here?" The Fifth Elder Metchzel Pyro said composedly to the people.
They all nodded and smiled with excitement. They've already forgotten what just happened earlier. They are looking forward to the outcome of the trials.
Metchzel, on the other hand, kept thinking of that event just as they arrived. He knew that someone broke through to another level of the mastery of humans. In addition, he was surprised by the overwhelming pressure it emitted. He kept asking himself if there is a master in the village. For he wasn't able to determine the level of that person. As if someone's blocking his senses.
"Good day to all, to Chief Village Wen Dew ,and to the citizens of Motowo. I am Metchzel Pyro, known as the Fifth Elder of the Divine Owl Academy. I am also the cousin of our current Supreme Sorcerer," Metchzel introduced.
The crowd made an uproar once again after hearing the words, Supreme Sorcerer. A title given to someone that even the Emperor won't offend and can't control.
"Ehem!" Metchzel cleared his throat to call the attention of the people.
"And this is my disciple, Lestia Pyxis," Metchzel said and looked to Lestia.
The eyes of the people began to widen again.
"Pyxis Family?"
"If I'm not mistaken, the Pyxis family is one of the noble families in Capacity City."
"Indeed, the Pyxis family is one of the noble families."
The people admired Lestia, not only because of her beauty but also because of her background. Metchzel thought he could at least hide the identity of Lestia, but he knew that the reputation of the noble families had long spread even from this far village. The noble families who hold great power and authority from all corners of the country. Feared and respected by all, except by some powerful individuals.
Lestia, even before they arrived, showed a cold expression. Although her eyes are pure and gentle, her heart holds something heavy that she can't unload.
"Okay, that's enough!" Metchzel said in order for the competition to begin.
The all gathered at the center of the square, where a square platform is placed. The location where the trial will be performed is enough to cater the children of the village.
"For those who are at the 4th stage of Energy Condensing, please line up for the registration, and you're going to recieve tokens with different numbers for this trial," Metchzel said loudly.
Chief Village Wen Dew prepared a table and seat for two. Metchzel seated, and beside him is Lestia, assigned to distribute the numbers of the participants.
The children lined up for the registration of their names. Almost 50 children are going to participate in the trials. Red, on the other hand, who just woke up and had a meal, is the last one to arrive.
A few minutes later, Red is now at the front of Metchzel. Metchzel looked at him and was surprised.
"9th stage of Energy Condensing, what a good aptitude," he thought.
He saw the cultivation of Red. He was surprised, for it is unusual for villages to produce such a child, having an initial cultivation at the last stage of Energy Condensing. Metchzel also felt something unusual about Red; his looks, especially his eyes, are familiar. As if he already saw it but can't think of when.
"Name?"
"Red, Fifth Elder," he answered happily.
"Only Red?" Metchzel asked curiously.
Immediately, Metchzel was confused as to why Red didn't have a family name. He concluded that maybe Red is alone, and maybe Red can be his disciple, knowing that he lives a lonely life. Then, he realized that he will consider it as long as Red passes all the trials.
Metchzel wrote Red's name, and as Metchzel was about to signal Lestia to give the number token to Red, he found out that Lestia was staring at Red. Then, Metchzel coughed softly to call the attention of Lestia. Lestia looked at him embarrassed as she gave the number to Red. It made Metchzel pique his interest more in Red, for making his cold disciple embarrassed in front of him.
Red turned and walked away without noticing what happened. Metchzel looked at Red as he walked away from the platform, and he noticed Red's right wrist; he saw that Red was wearing three golden bracelets. He was puzzled for a moment because the bracelets looked familiar.
He cleared his mind after noticing that the crowd began to talk again inaudibly. Metchzel composed himself and focused instead on the trials.
"Hmm, I'm disappointed that some still lined up even though I already said that only those
with a cultivation of at least at the 4th stage of Energy Condensing is permitted! I only wrote your name and let you line up for courtesy and to teach you some lesson! The tokens you have will automatically disappear, as well as your names on my list, if you don't meet the requirements. First, it will scan your bone age to determine if you really are 15 years old. Second, if you're at least at the 4th stage of Energy Condensing! If not, it will dissipate together with your name on the list! " Metchzel explained disappointedly.
He is known as an impartial and upright elder of the Divine Owl Academy. Respects everyone no matter what status they have or who they are.
Instantly, a few tokens dissipated into thin air, and their names on the list disappeared. Some children cried and felt despair together with their parents. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity disappeared into thin air.
He looked at the list and found out that only ten participants are at the 4th stage of Energy Condensing and above.
"How come this year's recruitment is stricter than last year, Fifth Elder?"
"Right?! Aside from the trials, there's a requirement for cultivation, unlike last year."
Some villagers rumbled and exchanged opinions to sympathize with the children who failed to participate. Metchzel felt the sadness of the children who are at the 3rd stage of Energy Condensing and below. Unable to compete with the trials. Metchzel looked at them without answers, because even him don't know the main reasons for the sudden changes in the recruitment.
The crowd was left in silence; they didn't pursue the matter because they didn't have the courage to do so. What can they do against a master?
"Okay, now let's move on to the first trial. This trial will test the purity of your energy and the element you possess. As you can see, I'm holding this object. This object is called the 'Seofon Elementi Stone', it can test the grade of your elements and its purity. This stone will emit a light of a certain color according to your element and the purity and grade of your element will vary depending if it emits dull, light, and dark color in an ascending order. Also these colors are divided into phases of novice, mid, and peak. Lastly, the grade of your element will be identified by the aura and power it emits, 9th grade is the highest!" Metchzel explained as he showcase the white and clear round object.
This trial will determine the future achievements of the children in terms of cultivation. This will determine their limits in the future.
Metchzel recalled that last year, this trial was conducted at the academy. Recruits and enrollees are still accepted even if they have a low purity and elemental grade. Unfortunately, this year's trial is unbelievable. The headmaster really increased the standards without consultation.
"However, to pass this trial, you need at least a mid-phase light purity and a 5th-grade element!" Metchzel added.
"What?!"
"How come it's so high?!"
"Right!"
The crowd, once again, caused a commotion about the requirements to pass the first trial. Metchzel could not blame them, for once, he also questioned the decision of the headmaster. He treasures recruits from villages more than the enrollees from noble families. Aside from their arrogance, some children of the noble families are disrespectful. Unlike children from villages who are hardworking and have a purpose that benefits not only themselves.
"Come here in front of me, number 9, place your palms above the stone and insert energy into it," Metchzel instructed.
The young boy walked towards him and followed his instructions. The young boy stood in front of the stone and slowly placed his hands above the stone.
Metchzel observed the young boy, and he felt something weird. An eerie atmosphere is lingering on the young boy. Metchzel could not understand what his instinct was telling him. He thought that something might happen in the future, something unexpected. For so many years, he already experienced a lot like this one. He believes that his senses never failed him.
After a few breaths, a flash of dark purple light burst out from the stone. The color indicated that the boy had a lightning element.
The flashes of lightning arched in different directions that made the crowd stunned. They all admired the young boy, for he had a rare element.
"This young boy is gifted!"
"Wow! That's incredible!"
"Lightning element?! What a rare element!"
Metchzel confirmed in his mind that, indeed, the lightning element is classified as rare. Due to its power, common people will not be able to handle its electrifying energy. On the other hand, this young boy's making him curious about his identity.
He recalled the the name of the young boy.
"What is it again? Larnge Necron? What a bizarre name," he whispered to himself.
"Novice phase, dark purity, and a 6th-grade element. Passed!"
