Chapter 121: Very quick reunion.
Kael and Amelia walked down the wide, silent corridor toward the Practical Combat room.
The class was designed for high-ranking students, with exceptional abilities and already at advanced stages of their training. The two walked side by side, a slight tension hanging in the air, a mix of discomfort and something else.
Kael was lost in his thoughts, still reflecting on what had happened earlier, while Amelia, with her teasing smile, seemed to ignore any previous discomfort, walking with her confident and uninhibited posture.
But internally, she was dying of embarrassment. She had done that purely out of jealousy of Sylphie and Irelia, she really needed to prove she was interested too!
"This class is going to be... interesting," Amelia said, breaking the silence, her eyes sparkling with a playful anticipation. She was clearly excited about the class, but there was something in her tone that Kael couldn't quite place.
He observed her, but didn't know what to think.
They reached the large door of the Practical Combat room, which was guarded by two imposing soldiers.
The atmosphere seemed charged with electric tension. Kael already knew this class would be different from all the others.
He sensed the presence of something... or rather, someone. Someone he knew very well but never imagined he would find here. The door opened with a loud creak, and they both entered. Kael couldn't help but notice that the room was silent, as if everyone there was waiting for something.
And then, he saw her.
She was standing in the center of the room, with a posture that exuded authority and power, her long-bladed sword resting by her side. Her silver hair cascaded in soft waves over her shoulders, and her deep blue eyes were fixed directly on Kael.
The instructor, surprisingly, was... Eva, one of the legendary Sword Queens. She was imposing, but in a way that seemed almost ethereal, as if she were above any human.
Kael recognized her immediately, and his eyes gleamed, but not out of surprise—rather, out of fear... after all, it was a feeling of inevitability.
Amelia, on the other hand, seemed more impressed than Kael, noticing the immense presence of the woman. She turned to Kael, her eyes curious, not fully understanding the dynamic between them. She was trying to remember where she had heard Eva's name before, but was interrupted when the woman moved toward them.
"Kael Scarlet..." Eva said, her voice sweet but with undeniable firmness. Kael looked at her, feeling something he couldn't explain, an undeniable magnetism. Eva's smile grew, and she took a step forward.
Kael was about to say something, but before he could, Eva quickly closed the distance, and in an unexpected move, threw herself into his arms, pulling him into a tight embrace. Her body pressed against his with surprising strength, and Kael had no time to react before finding his face buried in her chest. The sweet scent of her perfume filled his nostrils, and the sensation of being completely immersed in her presence caused him to lose his balance for a moment. The shock was immediate.
"EH?!" Amelia, watching the scene with wide eyes, was paralyzed, completely speechless.
All the other students in the room were also silent, clearly unsettled. But for Kael, time seemed to slow down, and his mind processed what was happening slowly but relentlessly.
Eva pulled away slightly, still holding Kael by the waist, her smile widening, now with a mischievous gleam in her eyes.
"I knew we'd find you here, Kael..." she said softly, her tone almost seductive. She looked directly at Amelia, who was still frozen in her position. Eva, unconcerned with the scandalous scene, continued with an enigmatic smile. "So, you're his... new friend, aren't you? Please, 20 meters away from my husband, thank you," Eva said with a grin.
Amelia didn't know how to respond; her mind was divided between what she had just seen and the shock of witnessing the teacher throw herself so openly onto Kael.
She opened her mouth, but the words simply wouldn't come out.
Kael, on the other hand, was in a complete state of confusion. Why was she here? She had said she wouldn't be a teacher... she said she had no interest in teaching random kids...
"She said... husband?" The children in the room began to question, as the age group in that class ranged from 11 to 18 years old.
"Yes, she said he's her husband!" One of the girls in the front row said. "Wow... he's so young and already married..." One of the boys admired.
"Eva..." Kael began, his voice hoarse and hesitant, still trying to process what had just happened. He pulled away from her a bit, finally regaining control of his body and mind. "Why did you call me husband, damn it?" Kael coughed between his words, "This is going to complicate things..." he muttered.
Eva smiled even more, clearly enjoying the situation. She looked at him with a gaze that mixed affection and something deeper, almost possessive.
"Oh, Kael... it's the truth, isn't it? I'm just welcoming my future husband. After all, don't you think it's time, don't you? You need to take responsibility," she said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, making everyone in the room exchange surprised and bewildered glances.
Kael was speechless for a moment, feeling his face heat up, which only made the situation more embarrassing. The room was filled with curious gazes, but he couldn't deny that what Eva had just said was now crystal clear to him.
Amelia, finally regaining her composure, let out what could only be described as the only sound that escaped her throat: a nervous laugh. She moved closer to Kael, trying not to look at the spectacle, but curiosity burned in her gaze.
"Well, this is... interesting." she commented with a stifled laugh. "I didn't know you had that kind of relationship." In truth... she looked like a demon waiting to strike Kael at the first opportunity.
Eva turned to Amelia, her piercing gaze intense.
"Oh, don't worry, my dear, Kael is just... special to me." Eva said, with a knowing smile, making everyone even more uncomfortable. She looked back at Kael, and her smile, now softer, showed a complexity he knew very well.
"Don't worry, Kael. I'll be waiting for you. I will always be waiting." Eva said, her tone now calmer, but carrying a promise. She stepped away from him, but her eyes remained fixed on him, as though he was the only thing that really mattered at that moment.
Eva moved away from Kael with a subtle smile, observing all the students in the room, now completely attentive. She straightened up, her imposing posture filling the room with a presence that no one could ignore. For a moment, the room remained silent, and the gazes were still fixed on Kael, but Eva was the first to break the silence.
"Alright, everyone get up!" She ordered firmly, her voice echoing through the room, breaking any remaining hesitation. "We're heading to the training area outside. This is a practical combat session, not a theoretical class. What you've learned so far will be tested with real results." She paused dramatically, then, with a mischievous smile, added, "I hope everyone is ready to put their skills to the test."
The students, still in shock from the scene between Kael and Eva, quickly stood up, starting to line up as instructed by the teacher. The mood in the room instantly shifted; the tension was replaced by an almost palpable excitement. Everyone knew this class wasn't like any other. It wasn't just about learning combat techniques or strategies, but about experiencing what it was like to face real opponents.
Kael looked at Eva, now more serious than before, realizing that he was about to be tested on a level he had never experienced before. Amelia, by his side, was more excited, but also aware that the class would be a real challenge.
Both followed the teacher down the corridor leading to the exit, where the training area was set up.
The outdoor combat field was vast, surrounded by high fences, with a carefully designed terrain that simulated various environments. In the center, there was a large arena, and around it were several containment cages, in which monsters and creatures captured by the school were kept. Kael observed closely, noting the variety of monsters, from simpler creatures like goblins and ogres to more complex and terrifying ones, like smaller dragons and beasts with natural armor.
Eva positioned herself in front of the arena, now completely serious. She looked at her students with a gaze that indicated the gravity of the situation.
"As I've already mentioned, this is a practical combat class. Each of you will be challenged to face a captured monster." Eva paused, her eyes quickly passing over Kael and Amelia before focusing on the other students. "Some of you are well-trained, others not as much. But don't worry. The school is prepared to ensure no one gets hurt irreparably. The goal here is not just to win, but to understand the creature's weaknesses and learn to handle the unexpected."
She then turned toward one of the cages, gesturing for one of the creatures to be released. The door slammed open, and a massive beast, covered in golden scales, stepped out. The monster had the appearance of a mix between a wolf and a dragon, with large claws and fierce eyes that glowed with an almost supernatural light.
Eva turned back to the students, a smile of challenge on her face.
"This will be the first combat," she said. "Who volunteers to face it?"
