Supreme Eyes: Being Adopted by a princess

Chapter 6: Selene Ashwyn

A carriage from the Blackthorne family mansion was heading toward the most remote outskirts of the Amberfall Empire. It was driven by two maids, and inside lay the battered body of Adam, whose legs had been broken by his own father.

As the maids kept watch to ensure Adam wouldn't escape or that no one would intercept the carriage, they began to whisper to each other:

"I've heard Alex is going to be the new young master," one of them said.

"Yes, I also heard he's looking for new maids. Maybe we can apply for the position," the other replied.

"We've been serving this trash for five years. Let's hope the head of the family takes that into account," the first lamented.

Adam clenched his teeth as he listened to the only people with whom he had even a minimal relationship openly despise him while taking him to his death.

'Why couldn't I have a normal family? I did nothing to deserve this... just being born,' Adam thought bitterly. "At least it will all be over soon," he tried to console himself.

Time passed slowly, and soon night fell.

"We've arrived," one of the maids announced.

"Are you sure we're deep enough into the forest?" the other asked skeptically.

"Yes. No one in their right mind would risk their life to help a cripple. Besides, deeper in the forest, there are spirit beasts. Even we aren't safe here," the first clarified.

Once they stopped the carriage, they opened one of its doors and peered inside. Adam lay on his back on the floor of the vehicle, his face completely emotionless.

The maids lifted him as if he were an object and threw him onto the cold, damp forest floor.

"In your next life, you'd better be useful," one of them said before they both quickly left the scene without another word.

Adam, in pain, tried to adjust himself, but the muddy ground made it impossible for him to steady himself. All he could do was crawl toward a nearby tree, enduring excruciating pain from his shattered legs.

Once he managed to lean against the tree trunk, he began to pay attention to his surroundings, listening for any sounds that might signal the approach of a beast.

Yes, he definitely wanted to die, but being eaten alive was not a pleasant way to go.

In the distance, he could hear the growls of beasts, which, along with the sound of nocturnal birds and the wind, tormented Adam for what felt like endless hours.

When he was about to lose consciousness, unable to endure the physical and mental stress any longer, he heard something approaching.

Thud

Thud

Thud

Adam felt the heavy steps of a creature growing closer and closer.

"Grrr!" the beast growled, preparing to end him.

Adam could only clench his teeth, hoping it would be over quickly.

------------

Moments earlier...

A hooded figure walked through the dark forest, seemingly searching for something.

Despite being in an area teeming with spirit beasts, none dared to approach.

'I've been searching for a month and found nothing. Could my physique be wrong?' the figure thought, though they doubted it. Their physique had never been wrong before.

The figure did not belong to the mortal plane. They came from a higher realm where the most powerful cultivators were known as immortals, giving their home its name: the Immortal Plane.

She was the princess of one of the most powerful immortal empires. She possessed a unique physique called the Eyes of Celestial Origin, which allowed her to see people's destinies and granted her abilities known only to herself. Though this physique was extremely coveted, it did not provide her with direct combat advantages.

She had lived a happy life until everything changed on her eighteenth birthday. On that day, her parents arranged a political marriage with one of the Immortal Emperors, a title given to the most talented individuals of each generation. She herself was an Immortal Emperor, but her betrothed belonged to a generation five times older than hers, making him vastly more powerful. Unable to resist the marriage due to their disparity in strength, she was forced to flee in search of a solution to change her destiny.

Few people knew that one of the abilities granted by her physique was a sixth sense that allowed her to escape seemingly impossible situations.

When she left her home, she had a strong premonition: the only way to save herself was to descend to the mortal plane. Following this intuition, she ventured into that realm.

This was how she ended up in a forest, exploring in search of ruins that might house a powerful ancient artifact.

While lost in thought, she sensed two presences a few miles away: a beast and a boy in a pitiful state.

Though she wanted to help the boy, she hesitated. Using her immortal Qi could reveal her location to the pursuers from the Immortal Plane who relentlessly hunted her across both realms.

As she wavered, the beast lunged at the boy. At that moment, her hesitation vanished. She raised her hand, and the creature disappeared without a trace, as if it had never existed.

Adam, braced for his end, realized it wasn't coming. Something felt off.

"Is someone there?" he asked, his voice weak, suspecting he might be hallucinating.

A few meters away, a hooded figure observed him, unable to believe what she was seeing.

She was about to heal him and continue her journey, but her physique urged her to take a closer look. Using its power, she discovered something impossible.

'He has no destiny,' the princess thought as she activated the primary ability of her physique.

If she used this ability on herself, she would see a tangle of threads representing her destiny. Thanks to her physique, she could interpret these threads, which had allowed her to foresee her misery and inevitable death if she accepted the marriage to the Immortal Emperor.

But this boy… he didn't have a single thread around him.

'This can't be… How is this possible?' she wondered, still in shock.

Adam's condition made it clear he didn't have much time left. She decided to heal him immediately before considering her next move.

Adam felt a warm, rejuvenating energy coursing through his body, healing the wounds and exhaustion inflicted by his father.

"Who's there?" he asked, startled.

"Calm down, I'm here to help you," replied a voice, the most beautiful one he had ever heard.

Despite this, Adam was not inclined to trust strangers, especially under such circumstances.

"Who are you, and what do you want from me?" he asked cautiously.

"I was just passing by and saw you were in trouble," the hooded figure replied calmly.

"Why would you help someone in a place like this? What if it's a trap?"

"Fu, fu, fu, you're quite amusing," the figure said, finding it endearing that Adam worried about her when, with a single motion of her hand, she could destroy an entire empire.

"You don't need to worry about me. Instead, why don't you tell me how you ended up like this?" the princess asked, eager to uncover the secrets this peculiar boy seemed to hold.

Adam hesitated. He wasn't sure if he could trust her, but he ultimately concluded he had nothing to lose, as he had already lost everything. So, he proceeded to recount his story, from his birth to his expulsion from his family.

'How unfortunate,' thought the princess as she listened to him. The idea that someone could be completely alone in the world and hated simply for existing was heartbreaking. She couldn't help but feel pity for him.

Perhaps it was because she saw a similarity between their unjust fates, both condemned for being too weak against greater forces, or maybe because something inside her told her she couldn't abandon him. Suddenly, an idea began to form in her mind—an idea that could benefit them both.

"I have something to offer you," said the figure, looking at Adam with determination.

"What if I gave you the chance to rebuild your life?" she continued. "It might not seem like it, but I'm very powerful—powerful enough that no one will bother us while we address the issue of your talent. As for your vision, once you become a cultivator, there are far better alternatives than a pair of simple eyes."

The offer was tempting, but Adam still felt wary.

"W-what's in it for you?" he asked, eyeing her cautiously.

"Let's just say you're… special," replied the princess with an enigmatic tone.

Adam hesitated for a moment longer before asking another question:

"Can you at least tell me your name?"

"Selene. Selene Ashwyn," she answered proudly.

Adam thought deeply. If what Selene was saying was true, this might be his last chance to change his life. Finally, he made a decision.

"So, what do you say?" Selene asked with a slight smile. "Will you become my disciple?"

"Y-yes, I accept," he said.

"By the way, what's your name?" Selene asked kindly.

"My name is Adam Black…" Adam hesitated, recalling recent events. "Adam. Just Adam."

"Don't worry. As my new disciple, I've decided to give you my surname. From now on, you'll be known as Adam Ashwyn," declared Selene with a warmth Adam hadn't felt in years.

Little did either of them know that this day marked the beginning of a legend that would one day shake all the planes.
