Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Forward

Stepping out of the hellish room, Alex had barely taken a few steps before encountering a dozen heavily armed soldiers. The moment these soldiers saw him, they immediately raised their weapons, and a dozen assault rifles unleashed a blinding torrent of bullets, all roaring toward Alex.

"Courting death!"

Alex smiled coldly at the soldiers firing at him, his gaze treating them no differently from corpses. In the next instant, his body vanished from its spot. When he reappeared, he was already at close range, standing amidst the soldiers. His katana sliced through the air with a piercing whoosh.

"Shhh! Shhh! Shhh!"

The sound was faint but chilling. The soldiers, who had been firing wildly just a moment ago, suddenly froze, standing motionless as though time itself had stopped.

What had happened?

In the split second Alex moved closer, his adamantium blade had sliced through them like the scythe of death, claiming their lives in an instant.

The soldiers' actions ceased as if commanded, and silence engulfed the surroundings. Time appeared to come to a standstill.

Alex, with a flick of his wrist, spun the adamantium blade into an elegant flourish before slinging it onto his back.

In just two seconds, the dozen soldiers stood there, eyes filled with unwillingness, terror, and a desperate yearning to live. Mechanically, their heads tilted downward. A thin, straight line had appeared on their combat uniforms, and blood began to seep from the incision.

"Pssshhhh!!!"

Blood erupted like fountains in a park, splattering as their bodies collapsed lifelessly to the ground, staining the surroundings in crimson.

The dozen soldiers fell, regret and despair etched on their faces, their longing for life extinguished. Until their final moments, they couldn't comprehend how they had been struck.

"When did he draw his blade? When did he cut us? Why…?"

But Alex had no intention of answering their silent questions. Their final sensations were the deafening sound of their bodies hitting the ground and the darkness of unconsciousness.

"Shinmei-ryu Iaijutsu!"

This was one of the techniques gifted by his Demonic Eyes—a foundational move in Shinmei-ryu swordsmanship.

Shinmei-ryu swordsmanship, rooted in the yin-yang path, consisted of four main categories: standard sword techniques, ultimate techniques, secret sword techniques, and miscellaneous arts (including physical techniques and defensive moves).

Iaijutsu, a practice of swift and explosive sword drawing, formed the basis for the secret techniques "Samidare Slash" and "Hien Batou Kasumi Slash." Without mastering Iaijutsu, executing those advanced moves would be impossible.

Furthermore, Shinmei-ryu swordsmen with poor Iaijutsu skills could never fully unleash the ultimate techniques "Blossom Tempest Slash" or "Hundred Cherry Petal Strike."

The essence of Iaijutsu lay in speed and explosive power—an area where Alex excelled. His enhanced body, refined through years of evolution from his Annihilation Eyes, had granted him extraordinary speed and strength. Covering forty meters in a second was a testament to his superhuman abilities.

"Anyone who wants me dead must pay the price. Better luck next time—if you have one."

Casting a faint smirk at the corpses, Alex, ever the pragmatist, decided not to let anything go to waste. He stepped forward, his pupils shifting into the devouring form of the Annihilation Eyes, absorbing every last bit of their essence.

With the evolution of his ocular powers into the "Demonic Eyes," Alex had gained a new perspective. His eyes now possessed direct offensive capabilities, compensating for his prior reliance solely on physical strength. This change had elevated his combat prowess to new heights.

Before gaining the Demonic Eyes, Alex could take on a hundred enemies alone. Now, with these enhancements, taking on a thousand—or even ten thousand—was entirely within reach. However, the trade-off was a constant hunger for energy—specifically, the spiritual energy known as essence.

Skills reliant on essence or similar energies often faced a critical issue: resource depletion. Without sufficient energy, even the most powerful techniques were rendered useless. Alex realized he needed a strategy to ensure a steady supply of essence.

As he absorbed the soldiers' spiritual energy, Alex felt his body grow stronger and his essence reserves deepen.

After finishing, he straightened up. "Well, that's done. Now let's see where they're keeping the mutants."

Switching his ocular powers to the Clairvoyant Mode, his vision pierced through walls and debris, revealing a series of large iron cages holding groups of humans—mutants, imprisoned like animals.

"They're 300 meters that way. Not far."

Retracting his gaze, Alex activated his Demonic Eyes again and walked to a nearby wall. He raised his adamantium blade.

Since he already knew the target's location, taking the straightforward route seemed best. Following designated paths wasn't exactly his style.

"Break it down!"

Without employing any advanced sword techniques, Alex simply relied on brute force. Swinging the adamantium blade with inhuman strength, he struck the wall.

"Boom!"

The wall crumbled instantly, leaving a human-sized hole. Laughing, Alex stepped through.

Thankfully, the adamantium blade lived up to its reputation as the "world's hardest metal." If it had broken under Alex's reckless usage, its title would've been an ironic joke.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

One thunderous crash followed another as Alex, wielding his adamantium blade and monstrous strength, carved his way through the base's walls. The facility, built with immense resources, crumbled like tofu before him.

Inside one of the cages, a female mutant glanced toward her cellmate, Diamond Girl, her expression tinged with worry. "Diamond Girl, what's that sound?"

"I'm not sure," Diamond Girl replied, her brow furrowing in confusion.

"Boom!"

Another loud crash echoed, closer this time. The tremors grew stronger, and panic spread among the mutants.

"What's going on? Is it an earthquake?"

"Let us out! Let us out!"

The mutants banged on their cages, shouting, but no soldiers came to stop them. Their fear deepened. Were the humans planning to bury them alive?

"Hey, everyone, remember what I said earlier?"

Diamond Girl's voice cut through the chaos, drawing everyone's attention.

Her cellmate's eyes lit up with hope. "You mean…?"

"Yes!" Diamond Girl nodded firmly, a faint smile on her face. "Someone's coming to save us. I can feel it…"

"Boom!"

Before she could finish, a nearby wall exploded, sending debris flying. A human-sized hole appeared where the wall had been.

"Ahhh!"

Several mutants screamed in shock, unprepared for the sudden development. Diamond Girl, however, wore a complicated expression.

"This soon? I didn't expect him to arrive so quickly…"
