Chapter 392: Chapter 393: The Speed Race Between Flash and Quicksilver
"Hmm?" Robert, watching the fight between the two Thor souls, raised an eyebrow. He sensed several familiar presences approaching. Recognizing them, he relaxed. Whatever Pietro and Lorna had gone through, their awakening was a good thing.
Moreover, Robert keenly noticed that Pietro and Lorna's energy was stronger than before. Their bodies were no longer frail but seemed even more robust than many super soldiers!
"Hmm?" Not long after Robert sensed their presence, Peter Parker also noticed their arrival. A hint of surprise crossed his eyes, followed by joy.
"What's up?" Barry Allen asked, puzzled. Before Peter could respond, an eager Pietro had already dashed over.
Originally, Pietro was flying with Susan Storm and Lorna's telekinesis, but upon seeing Robert and the others, he broke free and landed smoothly, rushing toward Robert while shouting, "Hey guys! I'm back! Did you miss me?"
"So they woke up?" Barry Allen chuckled, relieved. The safety of their companions was paramount.
However, seeing Pietro's smugness, Barry and Peter exchanged a glance, smirking knowingly.
"So, did you miss me? Were you worried about me?" Pietro asked, waving excitedly at Barry and Peter, who ignored him and instead waved at the approaching Lorna and others, genuinely excited.
"Hey, come on! I'm right here! Isn't it a bit much to ignore me?" Pietro, though aware of their act, couldn't help but complain.
"I'm fine, sorry for worrying you…" Lorna, flying over, quickly understood Barry and Peter's intentions. She smiled and calmly replied.
"Lorna, you're taking their side?" Pietro exclaimed, eyes wide with displeasure.
"What? Shouldn't I? If it weren't for them finding you, you'd still be lying out there," Peter retorted, "And you don't even thank us? Just come in here making noise…"
"Uh… well… who is that guy? Why isn't he moving?" Pietro, feeling awkward, glanced at Thor and quickly changed the subject.
"Is this his soul? Why does he have two souls? Who is he?" Lorna asked Robert, puzzled.
"Hmm? You can see them?" Barry, surprised, asked before Robert could respond.
"Can't you? These two souls are quite obvious," Susan Storm, landing beside them, pointed at Thor's souls.
"Soul? What are you talking about?" Pietro and Johnny Storm exchanged a confused look. They could only see Thor's body, not his souls.
Mystical abilities were beyond Pietro's evolved powers, and Johnny was even more clueless.
With a hum, Robert waved his hand, enveloping Pietro and Johnny's eyes with energy. Suddenly, they saw the two Thor souls still fighting and biting each other, seemingly unable to determine a winner.
"He was brainwashed, like Bucky. Did I ever tell you about Bucky?" Robert began explaining, "However, unlike Bucky, Thor's souls are very similar. They differ mainly in their attitude towards Asgard and allegiance to Hydra."
"So, these souls are essentially the same person, but with divergent beliefs. Whether it's Hydra's improved brainwashing or something else, I'm not sure."
"Hydra? Thor? What happened? I feel like I'm missing something," Pietro said, puzzled about Thor's connection to Hydra.
"When I tried explaining before, you insisted on rushing here. Let's exchange intel now," Johnny teased Pietro before recounting what had happened during Pietro and Lorna's coma.
"What the…? We missed so much while we were out?" Pietro exclaimed, shocked. "And we missed fighting such powerful enemies? Did we gain new powers for nothing?"
"It's not like you knew your powers would evolve. So, what's your new power level?" Barry's eyes glinted with curiosity, feeling the pressure.
Pietro's powers were originally inferior, but with his newfound boost, Barry wondered if Pietro had surpassed him. As fellow speedsters, Barry would feel a bit awkward if Pietro now outpaced him.
"Heh, want to find out? Let's race again!" Pietro challenged Barry, his eyes shining with anticipation. He'd waited a long time for this rematch.
Previously disheartened by his efforts yielding little results, Pietro now felt reborn, confident in surpassing Barry.
For speedsters, racing to the finish line was the ultimate test of their abilities.
"Feeling confident, huh? Alright, Robert can referee, and we'll see who's faster!" Barry accepted, not backing down. Though Pietro's abilities had improved, Barry didn't believe he would lose. The challenge would also motivate him further.
"Alright, I'll set up the route," Robert said, smiling at their enthusiasm. He released a ball of energy, explaining the rules.
"The energy ball will be your target. When I say go, chase it. The first to catch it wins. The ball will mark the chaser, showing us the winner."
"No problem!" Barry and Pietro agreed simultaneously, understanding the setup.
With a swoosh, the energy ball shot off, followed by Robert's command: "Ready, set, go!"
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Almost simultaneously, Pietro and Barry disappeared, leaving the others in eager anticipation.
"If they have to catch the energy ball to win, what if neither of them catches it?" Peter asked, a thought crossing his mind.
"Then I win," Robert shrugged, grinning, making everyone laugh.
Indeed, while Barry and Pietro were fast, Robert's speed was unmatched. Catching his energy ball wouldn't be easy, especially with Robert's mischievous grin indicating some trickery.
"So fast!" "How is it so fast?!"
Pietro and Barry quickly realized the energy ball wasn't just maintaining distance but was pulling ahead, outpacing them.
Forced to shift focus from each other to the energy ball, they found themselves struggling to close the gap.
The real challenge was that the energy ball flew through the sky while they ran on the ground, navigating numerous obstacles. The ball's route deliberately avoided clear paths, favoring mountains, hills, and forests, slowing them down.
Pietro wished he could fly or at least run through the air, thinking this would make things easier. Suddenly, inspired, he felt a new power within.
He stepped into the air, his movements supported by an invisible force, and soon, Pietro was running through the sky!
"Hmm?!" Barry, focused on the ball, noticed Pietro pulling ahead. Seeing Pietro running in the air shocked Barry.
Previously, both had the limitation of being unable to fly. Barry's superior leverage skills allowed him to cover vast distances, but Pietro's new ability to run on air was remarkable, supported by an invisible feather-like light under his feet.
"This is cheating! Either you fly or stay on the ground, not this halfway nonsense!" Barry grumbled, watching Pietro pull ahead. Determined, Barry tried to replicate Pietro's ability by using branches and stones as makeshift steps, but it only slowed him down.
Without the necessary skill, Barry's attempts to run on air proved inefficient, increasing the gap between him and Pietro.
Seeing Pietro's advancement and the widening distance, Barry felt the pressure but continued racing towards the energy ball, knowing this contest wasn't over yet.
