Chapter 372: Chapter 372: The Return of the Martian Manhunter

As Tony Stark pondered over the footage he had from before, in the midst of the frost fog, the king of the Frost Giants, Laufey, made his appearance. It was he who had unleashed the icy blue light that had obliterated the two mechs.

Although the Frost Giants' civilization vastly differed from Asgard's, lacking technological advancements, this didn't mean Laufey regarded the two mechs as simple creatures that had accidentally intruded. After all, no living being, aware of a lethal threat, would charge headlong into danger rather than fleeing from it.

The decision to engage was primarily influenced by the significant energy emanations from the mechs, which Laufey sensed, prompting him to act.

After disposing of the mechs, Laufey was somewhat surprised. It had been many years since the Frost Giants had ventured to Earth, and the planet seemed quite different from what he remembered, particularly the energy contained within the mechs, which was stronger than many of the Frost Giants, warranting his serious attention.

Historically, Laufey recalled that aside from divine beings, Earth did not possess many extraordinary powers. If there were any, they were connected to the divine. The capabilities displayed by the mechs did not belong to any divine system Laufey was aware of.

"When do we act, chieftain?" Seeing Laufey deep in thought, one of the Frost Giants inquired.

"There's no rush. Let's first observe the current situation on Earth," Laufey responded, not immediately pursuing the Casket of Ancient Winters. This visit to Earth was intended not only to retrieve the Casket but also to evaluate converting Earth into a new dominion for the Frost Giants.

Understanding whether there were forces on Earth that could threaten the Frost Giants was crucial. Laufey didn't fully understand the technology behind the mechs, but he believed that if there were many of them, they could potentially disrupt the Frost Giants' dominance over the planet. Given that mechs are more resistant to cold than biological organisms, and the Frost Giants simply required icy and snowy conditions—not the extreme environments created by the frost fog—the usual icy conditions wouldn't affect the mechs.

Therefore, Laufey decided to further observe and not act rashly, especially since the Frost Giants had been in decline for so long and showed no signs of recovery. Every decision had to be made cautiously.

"Yes!" With Laufey's command, the other Frost Giants did not object. Despite leading them to defeat and decline, Laufey remained the uncontested king of the Frost Giants, his status akin to Odin's in Asgard.

The surrounding frost fog that was prepared to disperse began to move, floating above Earth to monitor the situation, particularly looking for any formidable beings that could threaten the Frost Giants.

Unfortunately, the decline of the Frost Giants meant they were out of touch with many developments, unaware even of Earth's protection by the Sorcerer Supreme. Their hasty arrival on Earth following Asgard's announcement revealed their urgency, fearing that others might claim Earth first.

While the Ancient One typically wouldn't intervene in alien invasions as these were considered crises that Earth's civilizations should handle themselves, the Frost Giants' plans threatened more than just the geopolitical landscape—they could disrupt the very climate of Earth, which concerned the Ancient One and the Kamar-Taj lineage. If Earth turned into a frozen wasteland like Jupiter's moon Europa, it would be uninhabitable for them.

As the frost fog controlled by the Frost Giants drifted across Earth, causing significant climate disturbances, every place it passed saw a dramatic drop in temperature. Soon, the entire planet experienced weather chaos; regions in winter became bitterly cold while summer areas saw their seasons abruptly end. The sudden climatic anomalies caused worldwide panic.

Extreme weather can be deadly, and not everyone has the luxury of a warm home—many homes aren't warm enough to offer refuge from such rapid cooling. Thus, it wasn't surprising that some might freeze to death under these conditions, highlighting the vulnerability of ordinary life before immense supernatural forces, even though Laufey had not yet directly targeted humans.

"What's going on? Why has the temperature dropped so much?" Robert, waiting for Pietro and Lorna to awaken, was among the first to sense the weather change. He frowned and looked towards the sky, noticing a group of powerful entities floating above.

"It's so cold..." Peter Parker, Susan Storm, and Barry Allen murmured as well. Except for Johnny Storm, the three felt the chill approaching.

"Robert! The temperature nearby has dropped drastically, and it's even snowing in places where it shouldn't be!" At the same time, Kara contacted Robert, as she observed climatic changes across several states, including the Kent and Danvers farms being affected, with both families having retreated indoors to light their fireplaces.

Such drastic temperature changes weren't just unbearable for humans; animals and crops were also severely affected. The Kent family,

although not lacking money, worried about their crops being destroyed by the sudden weather change.

"I understand; I've discovered the cause!" Robert nodded, his gaze fixed on the frost fog and the strong presences within it, linking them to the dramatic climatic changes. He turned to his companions, "Johnny, generate some heat to offset the cold. Peter, take care of them. I'll handle this climate issue!"

"Robert, this strange cooling is really weird. Do you think it could be related to the Casket of Ancient Winters?" Barry Allen, seeing Robert preparing to leave, suddenly remembered the casket and asked.

"Hmm?!" Stopping, Robert also glanced towards the casket, sensing a connection between its power and the entities above. The strongest presence among them seemed particularly close to the energy emitted by the Casket.

"It might indeed be related. But I need to check it out to be sure. Be careful here; there's more than one of them, and they might come after you!" Robert cautioned Peter Parker.

"Don't worry. I haven't really fought since I got Thor's hammer," Peter replied, seemingly eager for a challenge. Having acquired the hammer and transformed his chi into thunder, he hadn't yet had a proper fight. He was looking forward to testing his new powers.

Robert was pleased by Peter's readiness for battle—those who loved to fight and strove to improve their strength were true warriors in his eyes. Before departing, he reminded them, "Make sure Pietro and Lorna are safe. Don't get so caught up in fighting that you forget about them."

"Don't worry, their safety is my responsibility. I can turn invisible and hide them..." Susan Storm assured Robert, smiling. "If enemies do come, Peter and Johnny can focus on the fight. Given that the enemy seems to have ice powers, Johnny should be effective against them."

"I can't believe everyone there is as powerful as the Casket of Ancient Winters!" Johnny Storm's eyes sparkled with determination. The explosive fire he could generate had once broken the ice of the Casket, and though his strength wasn't on par with Robert's, he doubted the Frost Giants all wielded artifacts as potent as the Casket.

With a whoosh, Robert didn't wait to see more of their enthusiastic preparations. He had already vanished, soaring into the sky.

As he ascended, Robert's brow furrowed, sensing a familiar presence. He had once battled this being—the Martian Manhunter!

Indeed, the Martian Manhunter was also in the skies, having detected the climate anomaly and pinpointed the culprits. With the whole world suffering from the climate impact, it was natural for a hero like him to appear.

However, Robert was surprised when the Martian Manhunter, recognizing him, halted as if conflicted. The last time they had fought, Robert wasn't his match. Afterward, Clark had approached the Martian Manhunter, who was then unable to handle even him. Following a fierce battle, Clark had made the Martian Manhunter promise not to target his family, including Kara and Robert, and to stay away from Alex Danvers to avoid exacerbating her psychological stress.

Thus, seeing Robert now, the Martian Manhunter instinctively thought to leave, honoring his promise to Clark. But realizing the threat posed by Laufey and the Frost Giants, he hesitated, knowing that leaving might place Robert at a disadvantage.

"Are you here to fight them too?" As the Martian Manhunter deliberated, Robert's voice echoed in his mind. Although their previous encounter had been a battle, Clark had assured Robert that the Martian Manhunter was not a foe. Hence, Robert held no ill will, for he knew the value of turning enemies into allies.

"Indeed, they are formidable. I suspect they are the Frost Giants from Norse mythology. You might not be able to handle them alone..." The Martian Manhunter hesitated before replying.

"So, you should leave them to me. If we don't deal with them quickly, their impact on Earth's climate will only worsen!"
