Chapter 679: Please Assist with the Investigation

If this had happened a year ago, Suming, the 'student with stories to tell,' might have actually sent out poisonous bees to 'take care of things'. Poisonous bees kill invisibly, and even if caught, they'd leave neither head nor tail of evidence, completely untraceable to Suming. At most, people could only say the victims were unlucky.

But today, there's no need for such measures, especially with the matter concerning Yang Tao's family. It's clear that the other party is in the wrong and breaking the law. If Suming employed these sinister tactics, he would have to bear the psychological burden and moral responsibility. It would be better to use direct and proper methods to strike the opponent.

Moreover, sending out poisonous bees to kill doesn't provide any sort of catharsis.

It's like having a grudge with someone and then beating them up while they're blindfolded and confused, not even realizing who attacked them. It doesn't serve the purpose of venting any anger.

To truly strike at an opponent, one must not only damage them physically but also crush them mentally. They must be disgraced, stripped of what they value and cherish the most. And then, in front of a crowd, openly declare that you are the perpetrator, that you just can't stand them.

That's what brings satisfaction.

After leaving the restaurant, Suming first accompanied Yang Tao back to the hospital. By evening, Yang Lin had woken up. Considering Yang Lin's feelings, Suming and Wang Hao decided not to enter the hospital room. Leaving Yang Tao to take care of Yang Lin, they went to a hotel and rented two rooms to rest—which is another story.

However, things in this world often don't go according to plan.

Suming wanted to legitimately use the law to take down the opposition, but Zhou Jing and Chen Yuan never gave him the chance.

Early the next morning, Suming's room was abruptly opened. Suming frowned, somewhat displeased and about to protest. While it's true that staff have keycards, they can't just enter without knocking, can they?

Following the staff member were two police officers, with an assistant policeman holding a recorder, filming.

The leading officer took out his badge and handed it to Suming.

"You're Suming, right? We're from Jiangcheng City Criminal Police Squad. Do you know Zhou Jing and Chen Yuan?"

Suming was startled and nodded, "Met them just yesterday, what happened?"

The leading officer, expressionless, said, "A severe crime occurred last night, and we hope you can cooperate with our investigation."

Last night, not long after Suming and his group left the restaurant, Zhou Jing and Chen Yuan also departed, driving towards Chen Yuan's place to discuss their next moves.

"Got any painkillers? I'm in so much pain..." While driving, Zhou Jing asked Chen Yuan. Her face was swollen like an aubergine and she could barely open her eyes, throbbing with fiery pain.

"No painkillers, just this—it's spiked—to work better than painkillers." Chen Yuan took out a pack of cigarettes from his chest, with seven or eight sticks inserted upside down.

"Give me one," Zhou Jing said.

Chen Yuan picked one of the inverted cigarettes, lit it with the car's lighter, passed it to Zhou Jing, and then lit one for himself. The two started puffing away inside the car.

These 'spiked' cigarettes were common in bars and provided a high with a mild hallucinogenic effect. Chen Yuan often used them to pick up girls in bars. Usually, if someone was slightly tipsy, smoking one of these would make them quite confused, and Chen Yuan would take them to the restroom for a quick romp, with them having no recollection afterward.

Zhou Jing, in pursuit of thrills, also smoked frequently and was quite familiar with the effects. When completely sober, one cigarette wouldn't cause much of a reaction, not even as much as a common drug...pill.

Once the two cigarettes were lit, the car quickly filled with thick smoke. The BMW weaved uncertainly on the sparsely trafficked North Fourth Ring road at night, zigzagging across lanes.

Upon approaching an intersection, with the green light countdown nearly over and the yellow light about to turn on, Zhou Jing pressed the accelerator hard under her high heels, flooring the BMW's gas pedal. The engine roared as the car shot into the middle of the intersection, attempting to beat the yellow light.

Just then, a Chery Tiggo following behind them also suddenly accelerated, as if in the wrong lane, it changed direction abruptly and violently rammed into the rear side of the BMW.

This was a classic forced stop collision maneuver; the rear car would strike the oblique rear of the front car—lightly causing the front car to spin to a halt on the spot, or firmly flipping the vehicle over. The Chery Tiggo, accelerating urgently like a small cannonball, burst forward and with enormous force, sent the BMW flying. It tumbled through the air several times before finally crash-landing harshly against a roadside power pole.

At such high speed, with such intense impact, neither Japanese nor German engineering would matter—the red BMW was practically bent in the middle by the blow, severely damaged, with its alarm lights emitting a beeping sound, flashing on and off...

Dark red blood flowed from the driver's cab, pooling into a puddle on the ground.

...

"According to this newspaper's report, last night at 11:35 pm, a severe car accident occurred near the North Fourth Ring Heping Intersection. A local red BMW, speeding through a yellow light, collided violently with another Chery Tiggo that made an illegal lane change. The female driver and the male passenger in the front seat of the BMW died on the scene, while the driver of the Chery Tiggo sustained serious injuries and is currently in a coma, under emergency treatment in the hospital. According to information obtained by our reporters, the two individuals in the BMW are suspected of having used illegal drugs..."

Zhou Jing and Chen Yuan were dead!

When Suming heard this news, he was somewhat stunned.

What was this? He had been gearing up for a showdown, and now his two adversaries had just died on their own?

Then he immediately understood why these two police officers had come to find him.

Yesterday at the restaurant, as he left, he had thrown down a harsh statement: "Wait for your send-off."

Not only did people in the private room hear this statement, but a few waiters outside the room also heard it loud and clear.

No sooner had he uttered those words than his opponents met with a bizarre accident and died. Coincidence—who would believe that?

And so, Suming became an important suspect in this car accident.

Not only did the police think so, Wang Hao also believed it was Suming's doing. He was taken away along with Suming, and as they sat in the back seat of the police car, Wang Hao kept winking at Suming.

"Impressive! Right on! That's how it's done!" Wang Hao quietly gave Suming a thumbs-up, mouthing the words at him.

Suming almost choked with anger at him. How could this fat man not grasp the gravity of the situation?

This was no minor issue; killing someone in the street had a terribly bad influence. If it were really 'determined' who did it, no number of titles would have made a difference.

Now he found himself in a very troublesome position, unable to explain himself clearly.

An investigation would inevitably uncover the whole sequence of events.

A wealthy man, aiming to avenge his friend, orchestrating an accident to kill two 'enemies'—it seemed like the most logical explanation.

Especially since he indeed had said he wanted to see to their end.

Suming thought it over; the situation, though serious, might not be as severe as it seemed, since there were no concrete pieces of evidence to prove his involvement.

But it was definitely not something to be taken lightly. Even if there was a lack of evidence for a legal conviction, news of a wealthy individual retaliating against his adversaries would draw significant attention. If word got out, public opinion could cause a great deal of trouble, potentially dealing serious damage to the image he had worked so hard to build.

It had to be taken seriously.

"Officer, may I make a call to my lawyer?"
