Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Leaving the Village
As the evening fell over Konoha, the ANBU operatives noticed Uzumaki Asako, Uchiha Hayato, and Uzumaki Kushina wandering through the village together. Their relaxed demeanor was strikingly at odds with the tense situation surrounding Uzushiogakure, a detail that immediately raised suspicions.
The three began their evening with a hearty meal at a yakiniku restaurant. Afterward, they moved to a high vantage point to enjoy the village's night view before casually strolling back to Hayato's home around midnight. Their behavior appeared perfectly normal, even carefree—but that was precisely what set the ANBU on edge.
"This doesn't feel right," said an ANBU wearing a rat-shaped mask, his tone carrying a cold edge. "They're too calm—it's completely out of character for Kushina and Asako."
The group's unease crystallized. How could two individuals so concerned about Uzushiogakure appear so indifferent? Their apparent serenity clashed starkly with the urgency of the situation.
"Let's split up," Rat ordered decisively. "I'll check Hayato's house. Rabbit, inform the Hokage. The rest of you, head to the village gate!"
With that, Rat flickered into Hayato's room through an open window. The room was eerily empty.
Meanwhile, just outside Konoha, three figures were already slipping into the dense woods under cover of darkness.
Kushina glanced back uneasily at the unconscious barrier ninjas they had left behind. "Are you sure it's okay to just leave them there?" she asked, her voice tinged with worry.
Hayato responded with a confident smile. "Don't worry—they're just sleeping. The ANBU will figure out we've left soon enough. We need to put as much distance between us and Konoha as possible."
Asako shot Hayato a wary glance, her thoughts unsettled by his earlier display of the Sharingan's hypnotic prowess. The ease and precision with which he had subdued the guards had been both awe-inspiring and chilling.
Sensing her discomfort, Hayato offered a casual explanation. "It's nothing to fret over, just a simple trick with the Sharingan."
[Move: Hypnosis – Puts the target into a deep sleep.]
Hayato had begun to notice an increasing sensitivity to the natural energy in the air, likely influenced by his repeated use of Pokémon abilities. However, fully mastering this energy and integrating it with chakra would require a key breakthrough.
"Alright, climb on!" Hayato called, motioning toward Arcanine. "Kushina, you take the front; Asako, you're in the back. Keep an eye out for any pursuers."
With a soft grumble and a faint blush, Asako nodded, leaping onto Arcanine's broad back.
"Arcanine, let's go!" Hayato commanded.
"Woof!" Arcanine growled, its powerful legs propelling it forward in a blur of speed. The moonlit forest blurred past as they raced toward their destination.
Back in Konoha, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, was about to retire for the night. Having just decided on the name Asuma for his unborn child, he allowed himself a rare moment of familial peace. A report had reassured him that Hayato, Kushina, and Asako were merely strolling around the village, easing his lingering worries.
But his reprieve was short-lived.
"Urgent report, Hokage-sama!" came a frantic voice from outside.
"What is it?" Hiruzen asked sharply.
"Uchiha Hayato has left the village, accompanied by two Uzumaki clan members!"
"What?!" Hiruzen sprang to his feet, quickly donning his robes. "And the barrier team?"
"They've been found unconscious. ANBU operatives are stationed at the scene."
The glowing screen of the communicator displayed the downed barrier ninjas and the ANBU standing guard. Another message came through.
"Report: Hayato's group is believed to be heading toward Uzushiogakure. Pursuit has begun."
Hiruzen's face darkened, his voice a low growl. "Does he not understand the consequences of this?!"
Near the Valley of the End, Hayato's group dismounted Arcanine and proceeded on foot.
Asako whispered urgently, "Hayato, someone's following us."
"Is that so?" Hayato smiled faintly, exuding an unshakable calm.
Not far behind, an ANBU agent called out, his voice cold and commanding. "Uchiha Hayato, stop immediately. Return to the village, or you will be declared a rogue ninja!"
Hayato calmly reached for his Poké Ball. A flash of light revealed Infernape, its fists colliding with a resonant thud.
"Let's wrap this up quickly, Infernape."
One of the ANBU operatives lunged, only to be met with Infernape's Mach Punch. The force of the blow sent him crashing into a tree, unconscious.
The remaining ANBU was momentarily stunned, only to lock eyes with Hayato's Sharingan. He collapsed to the ground, sound asleep.
"Hayato…" Kushina tugged at his sleeve, her voice tinged with hesitation. "Are we really doing the right thing? I want to save Uzushiogakure, but I also don't want to put Konoha in danger…"
Hayato gently patted her head, his tone steady and reassuring. "Kushina, don't overthink it. Only the strong can protect what's important. If we hesitate, we'll lose everything."
He glanced at the unconscious ANBU and left behind a scroll marked with a clear message.
Turning back to his companions, he smirked. "Let's go. Uzushiogakure won't wait for us."
Beneath the moonlight, Hayato's silhouette radiated an unyielding determination. For him, this mission wasn't just about defying the Hokage—it was a declaration that he was no longer a pawn but a rising force in the shinobi world.
