Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Chimchar's Resolve
Ever since Uchiha Hayato discovered that the energy within Pokémon was equivalent to natural energy in the ninja world, he had focused intensely on their training.
The fusion of natural energy and chakra created what was known as Sage Power, enabling techniques immune to even the Otsutsuki's chakra absorption. Moreover, the potential of Pokémon was limitless—Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamaxing, Terastallizing—each power was a marvel.
Legendary Pokémon, such as Dialga and Palkia, rulers of time and space, or Groudon and Kyogre, representing land and sea, were the stuff of dreams.
All of this captivated Hayato, and as he looked at his Chimchar, one of the starter Pokémon with immense potential, he decided it was time for serious training. After all, without a solid foundation, true strength was unattainable.
Though he could boost chakra levels with Rare Candies and Exp. Candies, without real battles, his strength would remain hollow. Talent might not carve muscles into stone, but effort could.
To strengthen their bond and build Chimchar's resilience, Hayato decided to dedicate time exclusively to its training.
In battle, speed and stamina were indispensable for Pokémon. Running, while monotonous, was the simplest and most effective way to build endurance. Hayato knew Chimchar had to not only endure the grind but learn to love it.
"Blaze," Hayato said with a serious expression, "we're starting with the basics: stamina training. If you don't complete this, no snacks for a week." As he placed a Power Bracer on Chimchar, he added, "Might Duy is running 100 laps around Konoha. You'll do 80, and I'll do 100 alongside you, so don't worry."
"Chim…?" Chimchar looked horrified. Expecting a two-month-old Pokémon to undertake such grueling training felt almost cruel. The mention of losing snacks made its world crumble further.
However, upon meeting Hayato's resolute gaze, Chimchar let out a small cry of acceptance. There was no room for negotiation.
"For strength, this is unavoidable," Hayato said firmly.
At his command, they began to run. Chimchar quickly regretted its life choices. The Power Bracer made its previously agile body feel unbearably heavy. After just a few steps, Hayato was already far ahead.
Watching Hayato's back grow smaller, Chimchar gritted its teeth and pushed itself to catch up.
Hayato wasn't exempt from the grind. After completing 70 laps, his pace slowed, and his breathing grew heavy. The Power Bracer added weight to every step, but thanks to his body's growth stimulated by Lightning Release training, he managed better than Chimchar.
Still, there was no denying that ninja and Pokémon alike possessed physiques far beyond normal limits. After a short slowdown, Hayato felt his energy returning as his body replenished its reserves.
Meanwhile, Chimchar's movements grew sluggish. Though it loved battle, it had never endured such rigorous training. However, seeing Hayato's unwavering determination, Chimchar felt a competitive spark ignite within. If Hayato could persist, how could it give up?
At 3 p.m., Hayato finally rested, hands on his knees, while watching Chimchar complete its final laps.
When Chimchar collapsed at the end of the 80th lap, its entire body ached, and its only wish was to return home and enjoy one of Hayato's meals.
"Stand up," Hayato commanded, his tone unyielding. "Get up, Blaze!"
"If you give up now, all your training will have been for nothing."
"Chi…" Chimchar's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, its expression pitiful.
"Stand up! Or do you want to lose to Pikachu again like last time?" Hayato's voice was sharp.
At the reminder of its previous battle with Pikachu, Chimchar shuddered. Mustering its last ounce of strength, it stood. It didn't want to lose again. Last time, it had needed Hayato's intervention to avoid a crushing defeat. That humiliation was still fresh.
"Good," Hayato said, nodding in approval. "Rest for twenty minutes, then we'll move on to technique training."
After their brief respite, Hayato addressed Chimchar. "Now we'll work on precision. In battle, you can't rely solely on your physical strength. Your flames are just as crucial."
As Infernape, Chimchar's final evolution, specialized in physical attacks, Hayato wanted to expand its skillset. If a battle could be resolved from a distance using elemental jutsu, close combat wouldn't always be necessary.
"I'll throw shuriken at random angles. Your goal is to hit them with your fire attacks. Ready?"
Before Chimchar could respond, Hayato launched a shuriken. Its fire missed the mark completely.
Chimchar glared at Hayato in frustration but quickly refocused. Watching the next shuriken spin through the air, it didn't hesitate. Flames erupted from its mouth, striking the shuriken dead-on.
Boom!
An unexpected explosion filled the air. Chimchar was flung backward, and Hayato dove to shield it with his body. The heat seared his back, but he remained firm.
Chimchar crawled out from under Hayato, staring at him in shock. His back was blackened, and any blood that tried to seep out had been instantly evaporated by the intense heat.
Tears welled up in Chimchar's eyes. It had never meant to hurt Hayato.
Hayato winced as he stood, the pain sharp but manageable. Despite the injury, his heart raced with excitement. His theory had been correct. By infusing his chakra into the shuriken, the fire combined with the chakra to unleash an explosive force.
"Sage Art: Blazing Flower," Hayato murmured, smiling despite himself. Though the move had failed, the potential was undeniable. If he could master the balance of chakra and fire, he could use Sage Techniques without fully entering Sage Mode.
But damn, this hurts! Hayato thought, shaking his head.
"Alright, Blaze, that's enough for today. Let's go home and eat. What do you want—curry or energy cubes?"
Chimchar buried its face in Hayato's chest, its resolve strengthening. It would train harder. Never again would it let Hayato get hurt because of it.
