Chapter 62: I'm Truly a Kind-Hearted Man
Liang Yuan's colleagues were all very fond of the star chart. A masterpiece by Professor Cosmos was no ordinary thing.
"Why didn't Dr. Leo write anything? The star chart is really well drawn, but it doesn't say anything," a female colleague asked curiously.
"Yeah, I'm curious too."
"Dr. Leo's handwriting must be too beautiful. He's probably afraid our Liang Yuan will fall in love with his words, so he sent a drawing instead."
If she had a pen pal like that, she would definitely not be able to stand it. A correspondence without words had no soul.
Liang Yuan held the star chart and said, "You don't understand, but I do. The universe is vast, and we are tiny, just a speck of dust. But even dust can give off light, making the originally dark starry sky bright. Everyone has a wonderful life. Whether it's sad or happy, it's all part of life's experience. The sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy will make life more exciting."
"Dr. Leo is a talented person. Even a single drawing contains a philosophy of life."
Liang Yuan treasured the drawing as if it were a precious gem. She really wanted to meet Dr. Leo, but she knew she couldn't yet. It wasn't that she was afraid of meeting him, but that she was afraid that such an excellent Dr. Leo would be disappointed to find that she was just an ordinary person.
Therefore, she had recently bought many books to cultivate her temperament and enrich herself.
Her colleagues looked at Liang Yuan in amazement. They admitted that the drawing was excellent, but how could she see so much in it? She was a bit too good, wasn't she?
"Liang Yuan, we admit that Dr. Leo is very talented, but aren't you deifying him a bit?" a colleague said.
Liang Yuan smiled and put away the star chart. "You don't understand, but I do. He must be very gently taking care of the patients right now, because only someone with his state of mind can take good care of those mental patients."
Her colleagues teased her. This was what it looked like to be in love.
Liang Yuan blushed and shooed her colleagues away. Then she threw herself into her work. She still didn't know how to reply to Dr. Leo. She would think about it tonight when she got home, lying in bed. She couldn't let Dr. Leo think she was an ordinary person.
Green Mountain Asylum.
Room 666.
Leo and Walter drank their Coke and Sprite. They sat on the side of the bed, swinging their legs, overflowing with happiness. The happiest thing about waking up every day was drinking their soda. They lived a carefree life in the asylum, waking up whenever they wanted.
"Sprite!"
"Coke!"
"Cheers!"
They raised their bags of soy milk, clinked them together, and smiled happily as they drank.
In the hallway.
Leon didn't stay in the hospital. For no particular reason, he just suddenly felt that the hospital wasn't so great anymore.
"Leon, take it easy. What's past is past. Don't keep it in your heart," an orderly comforted Leon. He knew Leon's girlfriend had died in the hospital. He knew this was a huge blow to Leon. Leon had loved his girlfriend very much. In his free time, he would always send her messages, asking about her well-being. Every time his girlfriend sent a voice message back, he would listen to it over and over again. His obsession was almost scary.
"Huh? What did you say?" Leon asked, confused.
"About your girlfriend's death in the hospital," the orderly said.
"Oh," Leon said calmly. "Don't worry, I haven't taken it to heart. Everyone has their accidents. Some are early, some are late. I'm glad she left me without pain. It should be a cause for celebration, not sadness."
The orderly stared at Leon, dumbfounded.
Oh my god! That's a bit terrifying, isn't it? Is that something a human should say?
In the office.
Director Hess was brewing tea and watching a drama, living a wonderful life. His phone rang at that moment.
He looked at the caller ID and smiled.
"Did you find them?" he asked as soon as he answered the phone. He could hear the exhaustion and helplessness in Lee Fortune's voice.
You could only understand that feeling by experiencing it yourself. How refreshing!
Director Hess thought for a moment. Enough was enough. If he played too hard, Lee Fortune might have a breakdown.
"I have something to tell you too. Do you want to know?"
"You do? Well, okay then. The missing mental patients came back on their own last night. But I didn't know. I thought they were gone."
"You sound very tired. You should go home and get some sleep. Look at me, I'm over 50 and my hair is all white. It's because I'm too tired."
Director Hess was, after all, a kind-hearted man. He really couldn't bear to deceive him any longer, so he had to tell him the truth.
As expected, when he said these words, there was silence on the other end. After a long time, he could hear the sound of breathing through the phone.
Director Hess smiled. He was truly a compassionate man. Hearing that sound, Lee Fortune must have let out a huge sigh of relief. The ups and downs of life were like riding a roller coaster. So thrilling.
Director Hess hung up the phone. He knew Lee Fortune wanted to laugh out loud to vent his joy. Talking on the phone would make him feel embarrassed, so hanging up was also a way to let him completely release himself.
At the congee shop.
Lee Fortune's expression froze. He looked at the congee, soy milk, spicy tofu, and a basket of steamed pork dumplings in front of him. They had been so fragrant just a moment ago, but now they weren't so fragrant anymore.
He had so much he wanted to say, but he didn't know what to say. He sat there in a daze for a few seconds, then slowly drank his congee and ate his steamed dumplings, tears welling in his eyes.
Hess, you bastard. I'll remember you. Was it fun to play me like that?
Hess: Yes, it was very fun.
March 9th.
Clear Skies!
Green Mountain Asylum welcomed a group of guests.
A bus parked at the entrance. Young men and women, full of laughter and joy, got off the bus. They were graduates from the four major institutes, here in Seaside City to join the special department. And for the special department, they had brought these graduates here to get a taste of things.
Director Hess personally welcomed them at the entrance, a smile on his face.
One-Eye was indeed a man of his word. He loved it when the graduates from the four institutes came to volunteer at Green Mountain Asylum.
They were free labor. They were obedient and well-behaved. And they would bring gifts.
Actually, he didn't care about the gifts at all. The most important thing was that they would leave some money when they left.
Looking at these young people, Director Hess was envious. Youth was so wonderful. Whether it was the youth of the heart, or the youth of... well, everywhere else. They exuded the fragrance of youth.
"Director Hess, these are the new graduates from the four institutes. I hope you can give them a tour of the place later, and it would be best if they could interact with the patients," a staff member from the special department said.
Director Hess smiled. "Don't worry, I'll arrange everything."
He thought about whether he should warn these young people about the two patients in Room 666, but then he thought better of it. There was no need to scare the children.
